Are you completely dead set that it has to be your starter? If not, you can always breed by the dozens, and that has a WAAY greater chance for you. And you don't have to sit through that opening again, either. Or, what if you breed until you get a shiny, host it in the bank then reset, trading it to your new game at the very start?

There's a certain thrill to getting a shiny starter, y'know? I SRed for a shiny Chikorita in Heartgold, and it's easily been one of my favorite shinies ever. I did a full playthrough with it too.

I remember when I was replaying Pokemon Emerald and I encountered a shiny Wurmple. I lost my marbles since it was my first shiny encounter. Just imagine my reaction when my Lotad crit the Wurmple to death. After beating the game I went back to that same area in another attempt to catch the shiny Wurmple. I spent about 2-3 hours in Petalburg Woods only to come back empty handed...or so I thought. Turns out my Ludicolo had Pokerus. Funny how that all turned out.

I've been soft resetting for shiny starters since gen 3, the odds against me were basically double of what they are now. In gen 6, they changed it from a 1 in 8192 chance to a 1 in 4096 chance. Basically, I have gotten shinies through worse odds. - - -

I would get that dedication, if you didn't have to suffer through the opening cutscene time and time again for it... Actually, they changed the opening of USUM and there's not longer such a massive cutscene before getting your starter. It's MUCH better for SRing.

I wish you good luck. I usually just try to breed shiny starters after I complete the Pokédex. The shiny charm helps a lot. I haven’t been doing any breeding after beating USUM. I still have to catch all the ultra beasts and face Rainbow Rocket.
