The 4th of July actually celebrates the 1rst of July when the declaration of independence was completed. It was the declaration that we no longer wanted to be under British rule and we're going to form our own country. As for slavery, uh, America was actually one of the countries where slavery was legal for the longest time and even after old Abe put an end to it with the civil war it kinda still went on but in a much different form.
