The Usual Spot is Closed!? Competition Opens for Business!!
It was a slow morning in Yongen Jaya. It's a beautiful day outside. Birds are singing, flowers are blooming. On days like these, many citizens would pass by a quaint looking shop and stop in for a fresh cup of joe. However, today was very different. The door seemed barred from the inside and to accentuate the the lack of life there were several tumbleweeds caught up in front of the store. Several passersby noticed the oddity of the usual place being so clearly out of commission, and with heavy hearts they marched on without coffee in hand. This simply will not stand! I must do something! From the shadows came the voice of a well spoken man. He had a dream in his head and a song in his heart when he took the first step into the light. A grin began forming on his face as he wheeled his clunky looking bike in front of the closed down shop. It only took a matter of seconds for the man to convert his clunky looking ride into a rather impressive stall. A large sign was hung on the front of the stall and it read, "The Wandering Barista". Not as flashy as a proper transformation, but it has a certain charm nevertheless. The man flips his ponytail back and poses as if holding a hand out to an invisible dance partner. Let's get brewing shall we?
Soon while walking around, Triss would see the shop along with her friend Meg "Hey Meg, why don't we check this place out before we go back to looking for our friends" Triss said putting away her huge shield Meg: Fine, only since I can relax for awhile and hopeful not get attacked by some random monster or some strangers https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/full-metal-furies/images/5/5b/Full-metal-furies-18.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20180309134558
Inside the 'empty' building stands a tall man, a long coat worn over his body despite the summer heat as he stares at a rather unsavory scene... "Christ, even if the Winter Court isn't full of sunshine and kindness, this isn't exactly something I'd wish on them." Stab wounds going into the body of someone who looks... Reasonably human, strange skin, odd clothes, but the blood soaking the floor of a closed down cafe is all too real. And his job's clear here. Claw marks around the place, but that's not what killed this woman. No, that'd be the stab straight into her heart, which he can only assume took place after the one going into her right shoulder, alongside the various bits of broken tables and chairs. It all adds up to one hell of a fight, but whoever pulled this crap was smart enough to leave no weapons and for that matter no blood. "A fine mess that's been made here indeed, but who'd go and do something like this..." Closer examination reveals one key fact, iron was used in this killing so odds are it wasn't Fae. But he was someone who knew his stuff. Even so, there's no major evidence left behind here... And god damn if that's not the usual start to a case. So with a sigh and one last quick look, the man jots down what little he's learned and walks out of the building. Bumping straight into Ryoma's stall as he walks off. "Oh, didn't see you there. Wait are you seriously setting up a stall outside that building? Huh, wouldn't expect that. Anyways, Harry Dresden and I'll take a large coffee please, cream and sugar. So, what brings you out to a place like this anyways? Far as I can tell it's been out of use for a while... Except for some, unpleasant things recently anyways that I'm sure will be on the nightly news."
Ryoma glances over at the pair and waves for them to come closer. His face held a smile warm enough to thaw a decently frozen heart. Welcome! Welcome! How may I be of service to you today? Suddenly being bumped into would cause the man to stumble slightly. He calmly composes himself before turning to face the unknown man. Upon seeing the man he swallows hard. He was gargantuan compared to Ryoma's relatively average height. Ah! Um, that is because I saw how sad people were when they passed by this establishment. I simply wish for people to be happy! He turns back to his stall and begins work preparing the man's drink. As for what brings me here... I would have to say adventure! I love traveling with my cafe! The name of my stall is the essence of that, The Wandering Barista. He pours out some milk and places in a scoop of sugar, stirring it slowly. And you said something happened here? I was under the assumption it was just closed down.
Meg smiles after seeing Ryoma warm smile Meg: Could you get me some hot coco, that would be nice Meg said before she sat down and relaxes, but keeping a eye on the strange man (Harry) Triss looked at Ryoma "Could you get me a... hmmm... how about some tea, I don't really care what kind of tea you give me"
Adventure huh? "I've always been more the type to hang around, kinda need to stay in one spot mostly for my line of work though." Huh, why's the kid staring at him for some reason? Oh well, not an issue... And as for what happened, the man's face goes dark as he looks at Ryoma. Though curiously avoiding eye contact. "Long story short, kind of a bloody death in there tonight. The scene is long gone, but I was in there looking into for a bit... I've been in this job a while though, and suffice to say I'm not saying anything the cops aren't gonna tell reporters." He sighs, it's an entirely true statement. Though somehow he doubts the cops will know or say that it was a Fae who got iced tonight. "Anyways, somehow I doubt you're in any danger here. The whole thing had to have a reason behind it from what I'd guess."
Ryoma nods his head along with the two orders. His hands moving for a two containers. Absolutely, just one moment. Filling two cups with a scoop of chocolate mix and a scoop of leaves respectively, he then pours in hot water and stirs them. With a quick garnesh of marshmallows on the hot chocolate, he slides forth that and the green tea. There you are! Please be mindful, contents are hot! He turns back to Harry and listens closely to his story. The morbud truth that Ryoma set up shop in front of a murder scene probably wouldn't do him any good if food inspectors showed up. He laughs awkwardly. Well that is quite an interesting development...eheh... His eyes narrow on Harry after a moment. So what exactly do you do Mister Dresden? You certainly piqued my curiosity with your choice of words. I may very well be reading too much into this matter, but it sounds like the media may not present the truth. He drums his fingers against his stall, never breaking his intense gaze. Humor me. I do so enjoy hearing from my customers!
The man laughs at Ryoma's question, still evading the other man's eyes as he grins a bit. "Sure thing, my name's Harry Dresden like I said. Profession, Wizard, Detective. I got sent here to look into the death of a member of a Fae court by Mab, Queen of Air and Darkness." That is all entirely true, and yet somehow he's expecting not a word of it to be believed in the least bit. "As for the media, they and most people will believe whatever they want to as usual. There's plenty hidden out beyond the eyes of the average mortal, and who really wants to think there are monsters under the bed?" Not many at all, and yet Harry himself's never been able to look away... As one might guess, from the rune-covered staff in his left hand which suddenly seems to appear, a simple illusion of little use, but decent practice. "But when the things that go bump in the night flick on the lights, when there's no one else to turn to... Give me a call, I'm in the books under 'Wizards'."
Meg would first take out the thing that was in her mouth which was a tootsie pop before taking the hot coco with marshmallows, she soon smiles Meg: Thanks Meg still kept a eye on Harry (potter XD) Triss took her tea and smiles "Thank you" Triss took a sip of her tea when she noticed some people in familiar armor putting up posters saying to join Menoetius army, once she saw that she spat out her tea Meg would look at Triss in confustion before turning around seeing Menoetius' men were around
Ryoma's face softens ever so slightly. Ha...haha...hahahaha! And I'm a transforming masked hero who fights off evildoers and monsters! Hahahaha! The man practically doubles over as he continues laughing hysterically. Tears roll down his face as he continues cracking up. He slowly rises and looks Harry in the eyes... his very "this wasn't a joke" eyes. Oh heavens. You were serious? He clears his throat with a cough as he notices Harry produce a staff out of thin air. W-Well then... I suppose I owe you an apology... He bows deeply to the man, his head almost resting on the counter of his stall.
(I'm going to go take a nap)
SON OF A BI- Any curse the man might come up with is cut short. Instead, as Ryoma's eyes meet with Dresden's the man would see a vision, a chaotic disordered mess of faces places and things. Ever twisting into some new mess, yet finally ending with something that makes sense. For a moment he'd see a scattered apartment, Wizard's tools laying about and various files lining the walls... Deeper inside, however, a single room lies locked. The scent of flames rushing from it, screams of pain and the sound of flesh charing. A gun going off, a body dropping to the ground. Below even that though is a simple room, a photo of a young girl and Harry... Along with another who's burnt out from out, next to it, the same girl with another man and woman. Whoever this child is, she's clearly someone he's guarding all too closely.
It took a moment for Ryoma to understand the gravity of his mistake. As his head hit the counter his very essence would begin screaming out in pain. His mind would be filled with images he couldn't readily make sense of and it only caused the sensation to tear away at him more and more, faster and faster. He wouldn't be able to contain the pain any longer as he begins to scream down at the counter. And then it would slowly subside as the images stopped. The sensation was still fresh in his mind and the man was shaken almost to his core. He rose up and looked squarely at Harry's chest. His voice was weak. What.... what was... that?
Harry sighs and rubs at his own head, well at least this guy seems... Trustworthy enough, a dark past and all that by some standards but compared to Harry? Ryoma's a damn boy scout. "It's called a Soulgaze, and don't worry if the images don't quite make sense yet. You'll never forget it, can't forget it... So what'd you get outta that? Been a while since I've done one." Dresden's clearly entirely too used to this event, and he'd simply shrug and stop rubbing his head as he looks down at Ryoma with an apologetic smile. "As for you, I get the sense of running from someone or something. A horrible place you've got no desire to be, an addiction that might define your life if ya aren't careful. And trying to do the right thing, even if it might be your end." With that, the man just sighs and sticks one hand in his coat pocket. The other twirling his staff as he looks down curiously. "Anyways, you gonna be okay? I know a friend who had that happen a long time ago, wasn't fun for her. I've... Only gotten worse since, so I can't begin to envision what you just saw. Oh and uh word of warning, don't make eye contact with Wizards, we can't stop that from happening."
Ryoma quickly fixes himself a cup of black coffee and downs it with little regard for the temperature. He was shaking, but he was slowly coming to terms with his unintentional knowledge gain. Soulgaze? It sounds romantic almost... it definitely hits those bittersweet notes... He shudders. I saw.... a lot... but it seemed to all stem from a child. For better or worse, I am not quite sure. He winces slightly at the mention of his own past. I... well I should say that is close enough to the truth. And I should be fine... this is nothing compared to... He hangs his head with a sad smile. What doesn't kill you and all that.
Ugh, a child... Harry can't help wincing a bit at that, no doubt a whole lot of blood in there leading to it. "My daughter I'd assume, and yeah recently it does seem to come back there." The man sighs and picks up his coffee, turning around and taking a few steps. "Take care of yourself Mr. Masked Hero, and if you ever need help... Really, look me up. Anyways, I've gotta a case to deal with as of now so I should get to work. Crime won't solve itself, not crime this well done." And so with that Harry Dresden walks off into the night, a slight smile forming despite the rather strange meeting which has taken place here tonight, and the blood-soaked start to another problem case file of course. Even so, at least he's met a decent enough kinda guy, and that's worth something.
