Apocrypha Chapter 3A: Blood and Wine
You have been at this hotel for a week now with this current day marking the end of the week in which it's services were payed for by Floraine. You haven't been contacted by her since and things have been pretty peaceful as a result. You received the other half of the payment resulting in you be three hundred thousand dollars richer in any one currency of your choosing. Lucius has found himself exploring the city more often than not during these days and even at times wandering to the library but as luck would have it he was mostly illiterate, being forced to drop out of school to take care of his mother in his youth. News of the Summit happening soon has arrived at every corner of Ark as representatives from the other reality marbles have all recently arrived. The bustling in the streets has increased drastically compared to before with Magi from around the world arriving, hoping to make good connections with one of the members of the Summit and as a result a mini festival has begun where vendors want to take advantage of the sudden flux of people to make more sales. As for the group. They can decide to do as they please for now. Whether that is to remain at the hotel, walk around the streets for gossip, go to a bar, or enjoy the little festivities.
Astin decided to leave the hotel. His knack for wanting information led him to walk around the streets, hoping to ease drop on some interesting conversations. Might be a good idea to keep my familiar cloaked for now.
Kushala looked at the money, it was just placed on a table completelly untouched. *This money is kinda usseles for me, I already have everything I want, Why humans fight so hard for this? I just see a lot of papers here... maybe is something I will never understand but probably I can give it a good use... but how...? *Probably I just need to wait for the oportunity, for now I'll leave it there, I've already placed my marks so I'm sure anyone... uh... human's doesn't care about that... I'll place a bit of it my back's scales in case I can use it, but I still have a lot of the gold I got from Kulve, maybe I can use that too.* After placing a bit if money in her back, Kushala decided to leave the room that was filled with marks and scratches signs of a Kushala's territory, for now she would go outside to see what can she do.
Not bad payment. But what to do now, there's gotta be some way to figure out more about what went down there. Harry wanders the streets for now, listening in closely to see what he can overhear out of boredom if nothing else. Mostly, he's thinking of where exactly to move next. Going back home is always an option, he can trek through the damn Nevernever without those kids along but... Just running off without even looking a bit more doesn't feel right, not with so many damn questions left.
Harry and Astin would for the most part hear very mundane information. Most of which pertained to discount sales or people trying to guess what would be spoken of in this Summit. For the most part things would be peaceful. It didn't seem as though there was much to be gained as far as information about how things might be moving in the shadows but eventually they would begin to hear small bits of information that the general public shouldn't have been aware of. Harry: "So things have really gotten bad?" a older woman was saying to a younger looking woman "Its just a rumor but they say their are actual rebels who want to dethrone the king." the little girl said "Can't they just get with the program. We haven't had a king in over a century yet and those stupid old relics want to cause problems." the older woman replied "If the rumors of how strong the king is then I'm sure he'll make quick work of these idiots. Just put them down and let us honest folk get back to our business. I even heard that they are here in the city recruiting somewhere." the girl tried to whisper "The audacity of these people. Do you think we should report it?" "Report what. It's all just rumors right now and besides, even if it was true its not like we have any idea where exactly they are recruiting." the girl said before looking down at her watch and then saying she needed to leave for an appointment, leaving the older woman behind as she left Astin: "Under house arrest?" the man exclaimed to another man that seemed to be about the same age. The other man shushed him as they lowered their voice again "Idiot. This isn't exactly well known right now so keep it down." "S-sorry. It's just that....I mean.....are you sure it's the Hues family? They've been a high house for over a millennia. Not to mention they've had numerous star children born into their family over the generations. I find it hard to believe they would be put under house arrest." the man said as the other sighed "Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't know the specifics but apparently their head is doing some real shady stuff lately. There being investigated because of it." "Shady stuff huh? You don't think it has anything to do with the rumors of the rebels do you?" the man asked curiously as he put a hand to his chin "Now that I think about it, the house arrest began around the same time as when those rumors started going around huh? If they are connected you don't think Alexei hues is really in league with the rebels do you?" he asked nervously "Shit. If that's the case then this isn't a simple problem. This really might turn into all out war." "I hope it doesn't get that bad." the man said before his familiar caught his attention and he looked at the time, rushing off as he seemed to be in a rush somewhere for probably being late. Kushala: From where Kushala flew around she would see the festivities happening below. The streets were more full than they were before and most peoples familiars remained in an incorporeal state to allow for more room for the ongoing foot traffic. For the most part things seemed to be pretty peaceful, not much of interest other than the numerous passerby. However, among those passerby she would notice one in something of a white cloak that hid their face. They didn't really stand out very much but the way they weaved through the traffic was a bit more calculated. They walked with purpose but also seemed to be doing what they could to keep themselves hidden. After observing them for a while Kushala would realize they were being followed in the crowd. Would Kushala ignore, confront, or continue to watch from a distance?
Kushala noticed the strange group of persons, if she lands next to them the people will look at her. *What do I do? Maybe I can help that humans... I'm sure if I land like nothing were happening I will save them because the other humans won't expect a dragon to fly just right now, maybe I could easily do this.* Kushala was looking at that group, thinking about what to do while she was keeping herself in the same spot by flapping her wings. *I must act now or I'll lose this chance, I'll help that group, maybe I can ask them about that woman, still, if they begin to fight this "strange human party" will be a complete chaos, I won't allow that.* Kushala flew directly to the group of white coated men, she stopped closer to the ground and landed a bit to the left. While keeping an eye to the white coated men she looked around and flapped her wings to leave the marks she always leaves on the ground, like if nothing were happening.
Astin paused and pretended to look at one of the shops advertising goods while he formed a caterpillar-sized centipede to observe the conversation of two men he overheard. The rebellion? And the Hues family too? That shouldn't be public knowledge, where did they hear that?
(edited by Astin_Azim)
Gah, nothing he didn't already know. It isn't exactly untrue that these rebels are running around, and from what he's seen he's no fan to say the least. Where they're recruiting... Harry looks down at the hair in his pocket, preserved in a bag and still ready even as he wanders the streets curiously. Maybe it's time to do some more magic, soon at like.
As Astin listened in on the conversation with the small centipede he would hear a similar conversation among other groups of people as well. He began to notice a small pattern. The same ones who started the conversation about these rumors with other people were leaving the conversation and talking about it to others. This was normally how rumors spread but the way this one was being spread seemed more systematic than natural. When Kushala landed near the white cloaked individual they turned around when they felt the sudden gust of wind from her landing. Upon see Kushala they mumbled her name under her breath before turning around again once more and running through the crowd. The people who seemed to be subtly following this white cloaked person immediately reacted and began to spread out through the crowd as some went into alley ways probably to the white cloaked person off some where ahead. It seemed they planned to ignore Kushala, probably believing her appearance to just be some type of untimely prank. The other people out in the street walking around also didn't seem too perturbed by her appearance. "Hey, old man. What exactly are you doing just standing there?" Lucius asked as he stared at Harry, noticing Harry hadn't moved for a while now. Maybe as if on cue, you would hear a small commotion down the street as you see Kushala landing in the middle of the road. It didn't cause a panic but it did cause a few curious gazes from the younger Magi in the crowd. As you notice this a white cloaked person passed right by you as they seemed to be in a rush as they swiftly moved through the crowd. You would even see another person running down a nearby alleyway, heading in the same direction as the white cloaked person.
They are passing along information? They must be trying to cause a panic... I need more evidence if I want to confront them. Astin walked by one of the men and proceeded to bump his shoulder to him, passing on the centipede, and using his familiar to make sure he doesn't see it. "Ah, I'm sorry about that" Astin apologized for the bump. If the man simply walked away Astin would follow him as best as he could. Someone obviously had to plan this.
Kushala looked with the corner of her eye to the white coated men, she didn't expected they would say her name, it called her attention "They've said my name... so... they know me? I'm not sure because I can't see their faces... or even smell them, maybe I should try to get closer...* Kushala began to move through the crowd, following that group of men with her trained eyes. *I'm an expert in following my prays... my pray... I'll do that, I'll act like they are a prey, but I won't kill them* Kushala began to move differently, her back legs where stepping in the same spot the front ones did, she began to move more sneaky and faster than before and she was ready to jump or dodge at any moment.
Harry'd be startled out of his musings by the boy's appearance, looking over at Lucius with a sigh. "Just wondering what to do next, that whole mess could have gone a lot better kid and now... I gotta figure out how to set it right. I could always start by tracking down Alex but I'm not entirely sure how I'd get past whatever issues no doubt arise..." There isn't any question of if he'll encounter resistance, only how much and how often. This time might require a plan, instead of simply rushing off like the last one. Gather his allies, really think it through but what exactly is there that he can do to plan for this? He only knows one person that might be able to tell him about this group, and bothering her isn't exactly something he likes doing. "Thinking about who I'm willing to drag into this mess too, I hate asking anyone for help but I'm not sure it can be avoided."
Lucius wouldn't seem to put to much thought into what Harry said as he simply replied. "Does it matter? If the person doesn't want to help they'd say no so it's not like it would hurt asking. They feel like helping then things'll probably work out. Though I wouldn't hold my breath. Adults are always trying to find an excuse to not ignore other people's problems if they can." he said kicking a small pebble with a slightly somber look. "Well, whatever you decide to do just do it. I'm gonna walk around some more and look at stuff. I grabbed a couple stacks of that money you had in the room. See ya" the boy said as he quickly rushed into the crowd so that Harry couldn't catch him for taking the money. Astin would successfully plant the centipede like construct on the mans body as the man apologized for not watching where he was going either. He continued to talk to a couple more people, spreading the information around but never saying every detail. They seemed to be careful of what info they were releasing and only releasing bits and pieces to different people. Enough that the rumors would spread quicker as people would try to talk to each other to gain a better understanding of whats really going on. Magi were naturally curious after all so only being given a small bit of information would make them want to seek out the rest. After a while the man seemed to finally leave the more crowded area as he met up with three others in a nearby alley. They moved through the alley and then split up. Seemed they wanted to make sure they threw off anyone that may be following them. The path split into three directions with the one Astin put the centipede on going straight down the middle. Kushala would find some difficulty trying to stalk her prey within the crowded street. Some of the younger Magi were running up to her and looking at her while some of the others even began to touch her tail. Of course it didn't last long as some of the parents of these children grabbed their children and walked away. Either way, with the large crowd of people, it was beginning to make it more and more difficult for her to keep her target in her sight. Kushala would eventually see the white cloaked person run into a rather large building that seemed to be used more for storage than anything else. The other people who were following her began to encircle the building.
Astin followed the man, using the crowd as cover and never letting them out of sight. He only paused when he reached the alley where they split up. This could be a trap. I need some leeway, even if it's noticeable, to confront him. Better safe then sorry. Astin adjusted his collar as he began to make roughly 20 centipedes. Five feet long and two inches wide; they crawled out of his coat as if they were all hiding there. They explored the walls of the alley, squeezing into every nook and crack they can find until they all disappeared from view. With that Jo followed the man he put the centipede on first.
Harry laughs, ah to be young... But also jaded really. He'd shoot the boy a look and a shrug. "Honestly, that may be true with a lot of people but not everyone is like that. Buy it or not, but there are a lot of people who'd walk into damn near surefire death just because I asked em to. You've got people you care about, right? So how would you feel pulling them into dangerous crap to make your life easier..." As the kid rushes off, Harry just shakes his head a bit. He'd have handed it over if Lucius asked after all. But either way now's not the time to sit around doing nothing when he has work to do. Harry reaches into his coat, hand on the vial of Alex's blood he'd collected and walked off for his hotel once again. There are rituals to perform now, though he can't help keeping his ears out as he walks towards the building.
Kushala is used to chase things when there are obstacles between her and the target, so this was nothing she couldn't handle. Kushala stopped for a second when he saw the person go to that build, she first looked at the build before shaking herself and flapping her wings a bit. *So, this is hide and seek, I'm used to it, however I feel that human is planning something... Hmmmm, maybe...* Kushala walked towards the build, she stopped near the entrance and she stopped, flapped her wings to leave marks on the ground and with that done she went inside the build, when she went inside she first began to smell the air and track that person. Well human, we can do two things: talk this without killing each other, or use brute force, I don't have any reasons to use brute force, so why don't you come here and we peacefully talk?
Kushala would walk into the building and see the person standing in the middle of the warehouse. There were four people blocking the exit the cloaked person seemed to have been heading towards. After a few more moments more people came into the building. There were about ten upstairs and fifteen downstairs that surrounded both Kushala and the cloaked person. "So I'm guessing that dragon is our targets familiar right?" one of the men asked their comrade to which they shrugged as if it didn't matter. "This is the end of the line for you. Even if its you, you can't hope to take on this many of us. So please, for your sake and ours just come quietly." The person in the cloak remained silent as they looked back to Kushala. "I feel you all have grossly underestimated me." a feminine voice rang from under the persons cloak. "Then disappear without a trace." The moment the man said those words it only took a second before each one of the ones in the warehouse wrote runes into the air, a second later the flash of mutliple magic circles appeared and Kushala and the cloaked person were bombarded by numerous spells ranging from fireballs, to spears of earth, to swords of ice and lightning. They all cascaded onto the two like an unstoppable waterfall. Before Kushala could react she suddenly felt something warm envelope them before her vision was covered in white. The two were shielded by a giant cobra whose head reached up to the second floor and whose large, thick body coiled around the two, protecting them from the attacks. Several other magi had already completed their own magics and serpents of condensed water appeared before them. They were smaller than the cobra but their numbers may make them a problem. Three other magi seemed to have pulled out bladed weapons that had some type of elemental power running through them. "Kushala. Hopefully you can take care of yourself. Also, do not under any circumstances damage the building in a way where it can be seen from the outside. Same with attacks. Keep it all in the building. We don't want the citizens to know about what is happening in here." she said, her back now turned from Kushala with the hood of her cloak still hiding her identity.
Astin would follow the one down the middle, taking slight detours every so often through a small building and even a flower shop. Eventually he came to a slightly larger clearing between the buildings where he could see a small basket ball against the wall with what seemed to be a backboard for a basket ball hoop on the wall. Up ahead stood the man he was following and just as he predicted one of the others came from the alleyway he had walked down prior to follow this man. The third person, a woman, was no where to be seen however. "Who are you and why are you following me?" the man asked Considering he asked it seemed like he hadn't noticed the centipede but simply notice Astin following him. This meant Astins identity was as of yet unknown to the man. "I don't know what kind of person you are but I can assure you I don't have anything of value for you to want." the man said slightly raising his hands with a wry smile. Harry wouldn't of course find anymore trouble returning to his hotel room though this was still the last day he could remain here anyways. A small note sat atop the table with the money on it with a small ear ring laying atop it similar to the one Lucius was wearing. The note was from the staff, apparently the ear ring was prepared beforehand by Floraine after hearing about his problems when coming in contact with human tech. The note simply gave a small explanation that the ear ring basically served as a communication device much like a blue tooth. You attach it to your ear and then send a little bit of magic into it, once you do that you simply direct your thoughts to the person you wish to speak to and the line will connect if they accept. Harry was free to do whatever he desired at the moment.
Kushala first adopted a defensive posture by lowering her body and raising her wings, but suddenly the light and the cobra made her return to her previous posture as she looked at the coated man. Alright human, I'll make sure I keep my winds here, but if you don't mind, I would like to have a peacefull talk with you because I have the feeling you know something I would like to know. But that will come later, now if you excuse me. Kushala closed her eyes and raised her wings she suddenly flew up and got surrounded by a black wind barrier, she then opened her eyes to show them an angry look from and angry elder dragon. Kushala flew directly to the enemies she had in front of her, she flew over one of them and smashed him with her weight, she then bite the next one, mashed him into the wall and throw him away, then she stood up and spap out a wind ball that turned into a violent black tornado that was moving ahead.
Tsk. I was never that great at tracking anyway. Astin looked at his familiar with a worried glace. The doll giggled in response. I don't have much of a choice. I can't keep hiding and I doubt I can get away. Damn it, I didn't want to use her. Astin stepped out of the shadows and towards the man. Astin's face and clothes however had changed. He was now wearing a large clown outfit. Along with make-up as well. Asshole... His familiar giggled. "You there, I know someone with your power could not get information like that by yourself. Tell me who ordered you to spread information like that and I'll let you off with a slap on the wrist."
Right then, a nifty little trick with that earring. He'll have to pick the details of it apart at some point too. But for now, he needs to try and pin down where exactly Alex is. At least on some level, Harry walks and goes to fetch a map of the world, placing the vial of blood he'd gotten from Alex onto it, he'd stare the thing down. He also places a compass. upon the map. "Alright, been a little while since I've done this spell but here goes... Interessari, Interressarium!" Unseen strings spin the Compass around, Harry himself casually watching as the force of his will causes it to dance. After a while of this, it'd settle in a direction and send the blood vial flying there. To be exact, it'd land in a representation of the location of Alex.
Astin: "Pfft" The man down the alley couldn't help but laugh at the sudden appearance of a certain clown wearing man. "I'll admit. I thought I was being mugged but then suddenly see a clown accusing me of stuff I got no mind to know of. Just *pfft hahaa* just what were you trying to do? Make me laugh to death?" the man said trying to control his laughter as he looked at Astin. "Y'know, my moms told me one day I'd get robbed by a clown. Never thought to ever take her serious with that. Who knew" a shrug of his shoulder as he seemed to relax. Harry: The needle of the compass spun wildly for a few minutes more before finally settling in a direction, however despite the it had finally slow down it still seemed to shake side to side as if saying it only vaguely knew. Soon after the vial of blood would float over the map and land atop France before it began to shake, glass cracking until finally breaking and covering the whole of France with the blood. Kushala: Kushala quickly dispatched two of the men whom were surprised at her speed but the others quickly adjusted as two created barriers around the tornado she spat out and crush it within. The giant cobra, despite the numerical and elemental disadvantage didn't even need to fight back against the serpents as the moment they came in contact with the cobras white body, they instantaneously evaporated and filled the bottom floor with steam. The steam began to block the vision of everyone on the bottom floor and completely hid the location of it's inhabitants as well. "Kushala, I'll take the ones on the bottom floor. Care to take care of the ones on the top floor?" the cloaked woman voice called out to Kushala "Bitch! Don't think you can continue to do as you please!" one of the others there bellowed as they wrote a root word, conjuring a dragon that seemed to be made of smoke. The smoke dragon glared at Kushala before letting out a monstrous roar and releasing a fireball towards her.
Astin grit his teeth as the urge to strangle his familiar grew stronger. It didn't help that she would began to cackle louder with every word. Ok, I guess some kind words aren't going to help. Might as well get a little serious. Astin began to walk to the man. "I am not here to rob you. I just need to know where you heard that from and who told you to spread that information." Astin began to move his centipedes close, not enough to be seen, but as close as he can manage in case he needed a shield.
Harry sighs as the blood spills out, what a vague area indeed. But at least its something he can work with, France isn't that far when you know the right ways of getting there. But first, he'd reach into his coat and pull out another vial, a quickly muttered spell gathering the blood up from the table for later use. "Alright then, I needed to get moving again soon enough anyway. Take stock of my things, see about picking something possibly useful up... And then I guess I need to take a trip to France, too bad I wasn't very good at my French classes." He shakes his head and stores the vial, gathering up his things from the room in a bag and wandering out into the city's streets again once more. He's mostly walking aimlessly, looking around to see if any of the various shops and such have something a wizard like himself might find useful.
Lillith's thread: Kushala nodded at the woman as she looked her with the corner of her eye, she was focused on fighthing and she didn't asnwered back. Sincerelly, I feel bad for you humans, you could have talked with me and we could have found a reasonable way to do this, however, you've attacked me, and I'm not going to forget that, so be prepared to deal with the fury of an ancient dragon. Kushala's attention turned to the other dragon, her eyes focused on him like if she were piercing him with the look, her body got more tense as she began to breath heavier and adopt an offensive posture. When she saw the fire ball she knew what to do, she flew directly to the fire wall while spinning and surrounding herself with a tornado, when she hit the fire ball, she got surrounded by fire and she used that fire to charge as a furius tornado of fire against the dragon and her enemies.
Astin: "Look kid er- clown" he corrected "I don't know what you're accusing me of. I heard some rumors fluttering around and wanted to tell a few friends to see if they knew anything more on it. Now what I want to know is what have I done to have a curious clown following me around?" he asked, writing a root word in the air before a magic circle flashed and three spears of ice appearing around him, hanging in the air, waiting for his command. "If at all possible, I really don't want this to end ugly so do us both a favor and go back from what ever circus tent you unicycled out of." A flash could be seen behind Astin from the one a little further down the alley that he came from signifying that the other party readied their magic as well. Kushala: Kushala slammed through the dragon made of smoke but true to it's form, it simply broke apart and reformed within the eye of the tornado behind Kushala. It's stomach had a red glow as a magic circle spun under it that moved up through it's throat and exited it's mouth, releasing what seemed like a spray of molten red lava. Whether Kushala tried to continue on to it's caster or not didn't matter as the moment she came within three meters of him she hit a large wall with a white magic circle spinning behind said invisible wall. The man smirked as to his sides you could see other Magi casting spells to support the barrier. "If you're trying to fight us by your lonesome then you'll find we aren't such easy prey." the man said with his hands in his pants pocket, sneering at the dragon who had no choice but to fight his dragon made of smoke. Harry: Harry would see the main shopping district to be filled with people. Most of the shops were all having sells and many vendors set up stalls around the empty areas or within the nearby park to showcase some of there wares. There were jewelry shops that sold accessories (some of which had specials effects), shops that sold clothes, charms, and even a magi tech shop that sold engines for different purposes. There was even a shop that sold things like human sized doll appendages which upon closer inspection, they were this worlds version of prosthetic limbs. Most of what he may need he would surely be able to find within the area.
Son of a bitch. First of all I'm 19... But at least we got something in common. Astin put his hands in the as if he was surrendering. He closed his eyes, focusing on all his centipedes. He placed roughly 10 near him and out of sight, along with 5 to the man in front of him and 5 behind him for the people in the alley. They simply kept out of sight. Astin wouldn't move them unless they attacked first. He opened his eyes. "You're right, I also don't want this to go the direction this is taking. Just tell me where you heard those rumors before I start juggling you and your friends."
"Why are always tjose humans using those invisible walls? Hmmm... Maybe I could try to do something like that... Hmm... Kushala flapped her wings while scratching the wall to quickly fly up, there is when she spat out three wind balls, two went to the walls that covered them with a layer of wind and the last one went directly to the dragon's mouth in order to make him burst from inside.
Harry gazes into various shop windows, there are a few things he could use but... What was his biggest issue in dealing with things this past couple of cases? From his view, he's in need of something to enhance his defense and offense magic more than anything else. Or perhaps simply a hefty weapon of some kind. "Doubt I can find anything to put me up there with monsters like the kind from that reality marble, but a bit of a boost would be worthwhile..." Charms and weapons, those are the things he's looking for. Anything that could enhance either his shields or his fire, or really any kind of magic that's good at tearing things to bits but the fire's always been his best area in that respect. Either way, with that choice, he'd set forth into a shop that seems likely to hold such things.
Astin: "C'mon guy. At the very least, if you're going to make threats then at least be in a position to back it up." the man said before snapping his fingers. The three spears of ice shot forward but instead of aiming for Astin they instead pierced into the ground directly between the two. It only took a few seconds before a large wall of ice formed where the ice spears landed, separating the two and freezing the ground in the immediate area. The sudden frost caused a mist to form on the ground that slowly began to rise. The one from behind cast their spell and a several small balls about the size of a golf ball each shot towards Astin. Kushala: Kushala was able to avoid the ball of magma that was shot out at her and it simply slammed against the wall and fell down below. The balls of wind hit the magic barrier but beyond that it didn't have any apparent signs of having any effect. If she payed any attention to the ones supporting the barrier however she would notice a trickle of sweat forming on their foreheads. The ball of wind she shot towards the smoke dragon hit it's mark, causing it to rupture and explode from the inside however a few seconds later the smoke simply reformed and the dragon let out a deafening roar as it rushed towards Kushala. Harry: Harry wouldn't find any trouble finding any shops that might have the things he needed. There was one particular shop that seemed to stand out to him. It seemed to be a tailor shop for woven enchantments and other small things. They specialized in clothing and accessories that went with the clothing but Harry would be able to sense the powerful enchantments woven into each outfit that simply sat in the display window of the front as if flaunting their wear. The inside of the store was huge with a staggering three stories and the number of people looking inside were many. Most of the customers seemed very stern and kind of out of place because of their demeanor but all in all were seriously looking through the clothes while others were sitting and waiting in what seemed to be a waiting room. A small figure flew before you with the wings of a butterfly and the body of a child though despite that she was only about four inches tall. It seemed to be a fairy. "Welcome to Million Fruede. Is there anything in particular you are looking for?" The small fairy cheerfully asked
Astin reflexively put up his guard when the man threw the ice spears towards him. He considered using his centipedes but stopped once he saw it wasn't aimed for him. A mist? He must be trying to get away. Then again this mist is perfect for... Astin looked at his familiar who smiled brightly as if reading his thought. No. I'll use the mist for the ones behind me... however for the man in front. Jo moved his white-flamed crawlers towards him, keeping track of him as best as they could. Now about behind me. [i]Jo used the mist to help him stay hidden, using his centipedes as a skin-tight shield to block any shots he couldn't avoid. As he did that, the centipedes near Astin's attackers would get as close as they could before jumping on them and attempting to restrain them. If it worked Astin would walk out of the mist towards them, wearing a smile that truly made him look like a clown
Harry looks around the building with a grin on his face for a moment, the magic in this place is obvious to a trained wizard and that makes it interesting by his view. The fairy is no shock to him really, and he'd greet her politely. "There is indeed, I'm searching for something that can either absorb some damage. Or give a flame a bit of added kick, both is best if possible really." He'd reach into his coat for a moment, pulling his wallet out and running some calculations in his head. Yeah, he should be good on funding with that last job and all the gold after the whole Hades thing. "Harry Dresden by the way, a pleasure to meet you I'm sure."
Kushala smelled it, she norticed the sweat from the guys who where keeping the barrier. "So... You are tired... Very well then." Kushala waited an instant and then she flew a bit back showing all signs of going to charge against the dragon, however she flew down and began to spin the air, surrounding herself with a tornado, if she is succesful she will strike the dragon and push him into the barrier, if the dragon dodges the attack she simply will strike the wall to try to destroy it.
Astin: As Astin charged towards the man behind him he would notice that the centipedes that were hit by the golf ball sized purple energy all began to float off of his body. Soon enough the centipedes he hid near him came out and seized the man and he found himself on the ground looking at what was restraining him. After getting a good look at the white flamed constructs he gave a wry smile. "Shit. This is.....now I see. You're from the Azim family then." the man said as he saw Astin slowly walk out of the mist towards him. Once Astin came close enough however a flash of purple light appeared under him as a magic circle flashed on the ground. The moment this happened Astin would feel like a huge weight suddenly dropped onto his body as he was forced to the ground. Moving at all was difficult which only made it even more difficult to cast magic. "It would seem that despite being from such a prominent family that you're still an amateur when it comes to battles between Magi." the man said as a cloud of mana suddenly condensed right outside the range of the heavy field of gravity and formed into a small calico cat. Astin would be able to immediately recognize the cat as a familiar. He stared at Astin before licking it's paws. As it did so a magic circle flashed above it's head and a sword formed over it's head from the earth around it and aimed directly at Astins head. "Now that I know you're from the Azim family that changes things." the man who originally created the ice wall said as he walked out of the mist behind Astin. "I'm sure you don't mind being a hostage now right?" the man said as a giant wold the size of the man slowly walked out from the mist behind him with shards of ice sticking out of it's body. The wolf was also a familiar and it's body released a natural aura of cold. It seemed the real reason for the mist was to hide it's presence. It's large eyes staring directly at Astin as if looking at it's next meal. Harry: The small fairy would curtsy to Harry to return his greeting. "I'm Milla De Flueder. The familiar whose pact is with this stores Manager. It is nice to meet you." the girl said with a cheerful yet refined demeanor though it almost seemed comical seeing someone so small act in such a way. "What you're looking for sounds like defensive enchantments. Are you searching for clothes with pre-made enchantments or were you planning to have enchantments sewn into clothing that you've brought in with you? Also, as far as those defensive enchantments go are you looking for something that lowers overall impact, elemental damage, poison and curses or something a little more basic such as physical forces or forces that cause high amounts of friction? As for things that increase your magical abilities in specific elements you'll find the accessories on the third floor will your needs." a big innocent smile on her face as she explained all of that.
Kushala: Kushala's attack connected with the dragon made of smoke but like before it's body simply tore apart and reformed. Her attack would then be directed to the barrier and as her attack collided with it she saw the other magi begin to strain as cracks began to appear. The man looked around to the others, noticing the difficulty at which they were having before sighing. "Using a bunch of young Magi may have been a mistake. I had thought they would be more useful if in a group. Well, I'm sure this is all in 'his' calculations." he said before walking up to the barrier and laying his hand on it. "Allow me to show you what a true Magi is capable of." he said before a large magic circle appeared on the barrier. Soon the dragon of smoke slammed into Kushala but it wasn't able to cause any damage as it's body simply broke apart and began to reform. That in itself wasn't a threat but what followed was. The barrier began to distort. It began to bend and waver before finally it shattered. However the way it shatter was completely unnatural. The part that Kushala's attack collided with still remained as a perfects square a little bigger than her and before she could react the shards of the barrier all shot down towards her and reformed around her. Now Kushala found herself inside of a barrier that acted more like a cage than anything else. It barely had enough room in there for her to freely move around and the smoke of the dragon filled the inside of the small cube in an attempt to choke Kushala to death. On top of that the cage had begun to heat up thanks to the man whose hand was still on it. "Pitiful little lizard. Did you earnestly believe we couldn't handle one single familiar." he said before turning his gaze to the mist that last for all too long down below. "The original plan was to use this on her but I guess we'll get rid of you first."
Shit... I knew these assholes would play dirty. Well it's not like I can't as well. Astin stared at his familiar who smiled widely, extremely happy he was considering using her two times in a row. I'm going to regret this. Jo reached to the ground grabbing a rock. Just as he did this his familiar's eyes glowed. What Astin held over his head now was a over sized bomb, large wires wrapped loosely around it. A bright red arrow pointed to Astin's finger which was right over a detonate button. "Don't make a move! Take any more steps and I set of this signal bomb! Like you said I'm from the Azim family, do you really think I came alone?" As Astin spoke his centipedes slowly encircled around them. Five to the man he was chasing before and five to the unrestrained one. Gotta make this count. Astin slowly began building the blueprints for a centipede in his mind.
Kushala scratched the prison, trying to escape from it has she was getting suffocated by the smoke... Slowly her vision began to get more blurred. "At this rate I'm going to die... W-wait... D-die...? ... ... ... !!! It was triggered, her survival instinct was telling her to survive... No mather what... Survive... Survive... Kushala remained a inside the smoke, the winds around her went more and more black with the time, but not only that, more and more winds went around Kushala, signs of something big comming, when a scream came from the smoke as a colossal tornado appeared kn the middle of the room, it was impossible to see something there, but suddenly two red points appeared in the tornado, anyone who looked at it would feel nothing more than fear... The points disappeared and the winds got more and more violent with the time, if this breaks the barrier it would drag everyone who is in the build into it.
Dresden offers a grin to the small being, he's dealt with Fae enough to know that the smaller types often, though not always react well to a friendly approach. "Elemental types would be nice, I've done some enchanting work myself for physical damage. And yeah worked into these clothes is preferred, it's my style I can't just go and change that all of a sudden." He'd chuckle for a moment, geez it's kinda funny thinking about how long he's been wearing this stuff. "As for the third floor, guess I'll have to go ahead and take a look. Fire and ice are kinda my things so a bit of an increase there couldn't hurt..." He'd begin walking towards that area for now, even if it's not a huge improvement anything can be a slight edge. The only option here is to keep going, after all, still work to be done and by damn he intends to finish it.
Astin: The man standing next to the giant ice wolf looks on curiously at the bomb. A raised brow showing his clear skepticism. "You expect us to believe something that looks that cartoonish is supposed to be a signal flare?" said ask the man in the alley that was still restricted by some of the centipedes from earlier but was slowly getting back on his feet. The man by the ice wolf remained silent before he started looking around. After a few more moments he looked back to his comrade. "We're leaving." "What!? You don't actually believe this brat do you?" he said with clear disbelief "We already did what we came here to do. The other team should have already captured the Azim family head by now. No reason to go out of our way and risk ourselves." he said before beginning to walk back into the mist. Only a few seconds later and you would see the giant wolf jump out of the mist onto the giant ice wall and quickly leap from building to building leaving the two behind. The other man simply sighed as he looked back to Astin. His familiar walking back towards him and with a high pitch cry a magic circle appeared above it's head and shards of earth shot out destroying the centipedes on the mans body. "You really got off lucky this time brat." he said before turning around and running back down the alleyway he came from. Whether or not Astin would want to use his remaining centipedes to continue combat or let him go would be up to him. Harry: "Then when you're ready to have your clothes enchanted then please go to the counter on this bottom floor on the right and they will seat you in the waiting area until it's completion. On the third floor you can ask any of the staff or familiars there to help you with looking for the accessories you need. I hope the information I gave you was of use" She said with a big smile before flying off to another customer to help them as well. Once Harry made his way to the third floor he would realize the entire floor was used for selling accessories. Glass cases were everywhere as well as stands. They seemed to be separated by affects and then further by quality and price. The area that seemed to be used for elemental enhancements were towards the right back. The craftsmanship of the accessories were of really high quality as you could see the smallest details in their designs. No two accessory were exactly alike. You could feel the mana practically humming from the more expensive ones. There were numerous men and woman around dressed in suits with gentle smiles on their faces as they tended to some of the Magi around the area. Considering the emblem on the suits left breast you could tell they worked here. "Hello. Is there anything specific you're looking for?" asked a man that seemed to be in his mid twenties. His black hair was pulled back on one side and held up by a clip while other side framed the left side of his face with a white streak going down it's edge. He wore blue half framed glasses and had sharp eyes. He had the kind of features you would expect from a shoujo manga so he was probably pretty popular with the younger woman.
Kushala: Cracks began to appear on the barrier that confined Kushala. The man whose hand was on the barrier raised a brow to the sudden change before he looked at the other magi around him with an exasperated sigh. They were covered in sweat and some looked ready to collapse at any time. "Truly, it is hard to come by good help nowadays. No matter. For something as simple as this is still within calculations. A raging familiar is nothing new to worry about." he said as he used his opposite hand to right a root word. A magic circle flashed at his back before he whispered under his breath the word 'reinforce'. As soon as those words left his mouth the cracks in the barrier seemed to slowly begin fixing themselves but as soon as they did more cracks began to appear. He raised a brow once more. "Its growing stronger?" he muttered before beginning to laugh to himself and repeating the word reinforce once more. The cracks in the barrier repaired once more as more soon took its place. "Truly marvelous! So this is the power of a first class familiar. Nothing I shouldn't expect from the Azim families guardian dragon. But I wonder, who will yield first? You or me?" he said before muttering the word reinforce again. The smoke in the barrier didn't lesson. As if it was still trying to choke out Kushala. She could feel her attack was working but started finding difficulty keeping focus. The longer this took the more powerful her attack was but the closer she would come to losing conscious and she knew if she lost conscious there wasn't anything else she would be able to do. Kushala may not know how strong that cloaked person down below was but the fact something like this was made to defeat them could only speak volumes of how strong they probably were. The man that was now keeping the barrier and the smoke going by himself felt sweat begin to form on his forehead. Even if Kushala couldn't clearly see him she could tell they both were reaching their limits.
In any normal circumstance Astin would resume combat, the bomb was to distract them long enough to get his centipedes in place after all. However what the man said about the family head deeply disturbed him. In Astin's head there was no way for the head to be captured. Yet, he found himself running. The illusion of him being a clown peeled away once he left the alleyway. He decided to check if his centipede was in place at a later time, his top priority was to get to the hotel and check on the family head. What the fuck are they talking about?! First those rumors and now my own family head? I need to see it with my own eyes!
Harry would glance over at the man, geez that guy almost looks like a frigging Raith... That just makes him wonder what the local vampires are like, though he doubts this is one such being. "Yes, I'm looking for something that I can mix to enhance ice and fire magic. At the same time, they're something of my specialty these days and tossing a bit more power behind them has an appeal." He'd glance around the case for a moment, even if he's no expert in sensing things. The magic flowing through this stuff is obvious, a testament more to the power hidden behind seemingly harmless looks than any skill on his part. "Heh, even I can tell these have some serious work put into some of em. I don't want to think about how much work it takes to force that much power some of these things though... The prices, however, those I guess I have no choice but to think about."
After the attack the winds began to stop as Kushala fell to the ground and lost her conscience.
Astin: Astin would only find difficulty returning because of having to rush through the large crowds of people that were walking through the main streets. Ultimately it would take him nearly twenty minutes before he was able to return to the hotel where his family head Vieta should have been. Despite the looks of the staff of the hotel gawking at him because of his desperate expression he was able to return to her room unhindered. After rushing into the room he would be met with the familiar scent of freshly brewed coffee. The only inhabitant in the room being stacks of papers that sat upon the coffee table in the center of the room. Beyond that there wasn't anyone else inside. Even the personal assistant to the head, Grisha, wasn't present. The only thing that really stood out to you was the half crumpled paper that sat on the floor near the coffee table. On the paper was what seemed to be a small chibi version of Vieta with her tongue sticking out drawn on it and a small message written on it that said 'Went for a walk. Be back soon.' Harry: The man smiled as he looked over Harry once more. "Yes. Some of these pieces were created by famous smiths and technicians from places such as Brunehild and Artemis. We even have a few selections here crafted by the Lumei family themselves. If you would follow me." he made small gesture for you to follow him. He would guide you to a pretty large corner to the left of the 3rd floor where a few rows of large glass cases were with naked mannequins. There were numerous accessories within them from ear rings to bracelets and even anklets and rings. Each with a jewel embedded in them which upon closer inspection you would notice they had small intricate patterns somehow carved inside of them. He took you to two specific cases filled with similar things. "These two cases would be the ones that amplify the control and variable power of fire and ice mana effectively increasing the potency of spells that use said elements. They are arranged from accessories and price range. We also have a selection of wrist watches and pocket watches if you want something a little more vintage to go with your apparel." Any of these items could increase your power and as apparent by the prices, the more expensive they seemed the more power they had. One thing in particular did catch your attention but it was something you saw on the way here. It seemed to be a collapsible staff from what you could tell that sat in a glass case on it's own. If anything the main reason it stood out was because it seemed more a weapon than an accessory thus it didn't seem to fit in the environment but the other reason was because you couldn't feel any power within it despite it having it's own case. "Do you have a price range?" he would ask, seeming ready to pitch a few suggestions Kushala: Kushala would lose most of her strength as the winds finally died down. The smoke seeming to have won in the end. Her vision slowly fading as her body dropped onto the bottom of the barrier. The man was covered in sweat but had a satisfied smile on his face. "In the end I prevailed." he spoke with mockery The mist on the first floor had finally cleared and standing there in the middle of the room was the cloaked person. They seemed to be unharmed as all the others were on the ground unconscious and surrounded by what seemed to be over two dozen snakes made of white flame. The mans eyes scrunched as he looked at the person. The last thing Kushala could see before he vision turned completely black was the person in the cloak mouthing off the words 'Forgive me' to her before seeming to turn and run out of the building.
Astin gasped for gulps of air as he used his hand to rake his black wet hair to the back. He kneeled over the note and shook his head. Damn it, she always goes for walks to avoid working. I need to find her, I can't believe no one is here either... why? Did they leave with her? Or are they also looking? I don't have time to think about that! Astin stared at the note, focusing at the large thread waving around the room. While it circled around the room it centered around the chair, but it was clear she didn't sit in it for long periods of time. Astin stood up and began to follow it as it floated outside.
Harry ponders for a moment, he's just gotten paid. Not to mention the raid of Hade's vault earlier in the year. "As of now effectiveness concerns me more... That said, half a million USD per should be enough. And something's piqued my curiosity." He'd wave his own staff towards the one in the glass case, staring at it with a curious expression. "What exactly is that one, smart money says it's power is being masked by something, right? I don't buy that it does nothing after all, you all don't seem the type to make a staff that isn't mystical."
Astin: Astin would follow it through the streets as it went to certain places like clothes stores or tool shops. He would then come to an alley but the moment he arrived at the corner it had become a mist on the verge of being completely dispersed. It was abnormal enough for you to tell that the mana signature was deliberately hidden. "Has she been captured?" you could hear the question around the alley corner When you looked around said corner you would see a male that seemed to be in his early to mid twenties with your family's trait of bronze color skin. They had black hair and wore half rim red glasses that did nothing to hide their golden eyes. This person wore a cloak that seemed to interfere with you ability to see his mana signature and as you gained a better look you would notice the person to be Grisha, the assistant to the head of the family. "Tsk. Nothing ever goes as planned when that woman is involved." he spoke Maybe to any normal human he seemed to be speaking to himself but you knew better. Any Magi would be able to tell he was speaking to someone on the other line of a jewel call. Basically using the ear ring he wore to speak to another person similar to how humans use cell phones. It was a common thing for Magi. His words on the other hand were not. "If she isn't captured that'll complicate things. The last thing we need is to alert the other representatives to what's happening." he sighed before taking a long pause, no doubt listening to whomever it was he was speaking to on the other line. "Yes, I'll head to the location now. This will be our last chance." he said before pulling the hood over his head. After that his mana signature seemed to nearly completely disperse. White flames emanated from his body before they soon began to collect on both of his shoulders, taking the form of two falcons who soon flew up into the sky. More than likely to make sure he had a pair of eyes in the sky to watch his back. He began to walk away and navigate through the alleyways.
Harry: The man smiled as he was asked that question. "You have good eyes. That is a staff that was created by a member of the Lumei family. As such it was forged from pure mana and as such is highly conductive of mana making spell casting in general far easier." He said before sighing and then shaking his head with a little pity in his eyes "Unfortunately it is a mere prototype with more drawbacks than benefits. One of those drawbacks as you've noticed is that it absorbs large quantities of mana from it's wielder. Because of that it feels ordinary as it doesn't project any outward energy or enchantments. We keep it sealed to make sure no one hurts themselves touching it. Currently, it is simply a decoration and is not up for sell." he said as he gestured to the staff before drawing his hand back and then bringing your attention to another place in the glass cases "Instead I would recommend you appraise these items." he would then gesture to a small wrack behind the case with watches displayed. "This piece was made by an Artisan by the name of Merua Silica, an up and coming artisan who graduated from Artemis's Havron University. You can tell the clear attention to detail she puts into her craft from the intricate designs she uses to draw a balance of power that all coalesce into a formula that allows easier manipulation of the elements. This particular piece specializes in the use of thermal manipulation and thus is able to assist in the creation of both frost and flame alike." he said as he put on a white glove and reached into the case, hand passing through the glass itself before pulling back and carefully holding the watch out to Harry. Harry would be able to see that every line one it pulsed with power near imperceptible to any run of the mill magic user. Yet despite that it was used as a design on the watch as well bringing it a unique fashion facet that allowed it to go with almost any outfit. The watch itself was dark silver with blue and darker silver tones on the rim of the watch. You couldn't hear or feel any ticking coming from it as the hands of the clock continued to tick on. "It also sets itself depending on where you are in the world and if you will it a map will be displayed for those who have a bad sense of direction. As long as there isn't any magic to interfere it will also show a map of the immediate area using echolocation magic. It is a truly convenient article that just barely remains in your price range. With this you would have no need of buying any extra accessories to further buff both types of magic. What do they say now.......? Two Birds with one stone I believe." he said with a slight chuckle "Is this to your liking?"
Harry would glance at the staff for just a moment longer, the idea is appealing but the drawbacks... He can't work with that most likely. The watch pointed out however is of far more interest, no doubt costly too but a chance to examine some decent spellwork of this society is worth it. Not to mention the effects themselves should be quite helpful. "It is indeed, should fit my style fairly well in fact. Being able to make a map might not hurt either, though knowing my luck that'll be warded against half the time." He'd grin a bit and take the watch. Looking it over more closely and for a brief moment opening his Wizard's Sight to take a better look at the magic within. With that done, he'd nod and prepare to pay. "Yeah, I'll take it."
What? Hm... I can not say for sure what I am thinking is true. But seeing how my last attempt in tracking went... Astin formed two centipedes to follow Grisha while he moved to the cover of a dumpster to avoid the eyes of the falcons. He sat down and focused all his attention to his centipedes.
