Faba Magi Capulus Magicus: Calm Before a Storm
It's fairly late into the evening at this point, and the place is hardly jam-packed. A few customers still linger within the building, but mostly everyone's gone home. The softly lit cozy little cafe is quiet, and a pair of girls sit at a table with smiles on their faces. H: "Geez, it's been too long since we just sat down and relaxed huh...? M: "Yeah, much. Mostly I'm just glad things are... Maybe not entirely fine, but quiet for now." Homura would nod to that, absently leaning against the other girl given they'd placed their chairs directly beside each other. Both just sip away at some coffee, enjoying a comfortable silence while looking around the room.
Feeling a bit exhausted, the Cafe that she oh so remembers has caught the corner of her eye. Sonomi giggled, covering her mouth with her hand, before waltzing her way right through the two doors. At the same time, a girl that's roughly the same age follows Sonomi in there. S: "Hi Homura-chan, hi Madoka-chan. It's been a while! I'm sorry I uh, forgot to uhm, keep in contact?" A: "Oh nice, a cafe? Great way to put out some new content for my followers." Sonomi as she smiles at the pair, worrying a bit that she's interrupting something important, jitters on her words. Her hands are clearly put behind her back. It almost seemed as if she had no actual idea what to say. In the meantime, Asena lurks around the corners, looking for spots to set up a nice picture.
Wandering through the heavy snow was a lone traveler, armed to the teeth with season relevant attire, obscuring his face with a heavy scarf and winter hat. Shivering, he limps up to the cafe and gently opens the door, rushing in. "These winters are just getting colder by the year, damnit." The traveler sets down his coat, revealing a white buttoned up shirt. He then climatically brushes his hand over his head, pulling off his hat and scarf. He then smiles with his eyes closed looking down. "I'd like one hot chocolate, please, Homura-Chan."
Homura is a bit busy talking to Sonomi... Madoka on the other hand rushes over to the newcomer with wide eyes and a stunned look, she must be seeing things because that... Can't be accurate, can it? M: "Um... Excuse me, but you look very familiar to me... I don't guess your name is Tatsuya Kaname by any chance, right? And I can get that for you, no problem." She'd wait for a reply before heading to the kitchen. As for Homura, the black-haired girl greets Sonomi with a wave and a raised eyebrow. H: "Yo, what's up with you Sonomi? You sound... Kind of outta sorts by my guess, there anything you wanna talk about in specific? Maybe something you need help with or the like?" She speaks in a casual tone, even while very curiosly glancing towards the other girl's hands. And briefly nodding to Asena as a greeting.
Asena simply nods back at Homura before turning on her phone and shuffling around the cafe, taking many different pictures in many kinds of different lighting. With the flash on. Meanwhile, Sonomi, having totally forgotten that she was supposed to be keeping something secret, she almost gasps out before holding in her breath. S: "Oh, no, nothing of course! I mean, I guess there can be some things I worry about. Like...like..." Sonomi seemed to start to ramble on. Though there was no real weight behind her mumbling as her legs fidgeted a bit where she stood. It was mostly the product of her brain trying to think of ways to delve into a subject with hopes of not noticing anything. At the same time, Asena spoke out sometimes, just to act as that ironic echo that repeats her words and just stand there for emotional support. In the worst way possible. S: "Like the lack of education I'm getting. I have no parents to arrest for my truancy, but surely there's something..." A: "Yeah, totally."
Tatsuya nods to Madoka. "Long time no see, Big Sis. You seem to be doing pretty well for yourself, too. How'd you ever come to afford this place?" He sits down on a nearby chair, smiling at Madoka. "And the location couldn't be better. I'd expect nothing less from my Onee-Sama! Oh, and i'd like extra marshmellows in my chocolate, please."
Homura's eyebrows rise higher and higher, she isn't as stupid as Sonomi seems to hope or think. It's fairly simple to tell that something is being hidden from her here... And the persona user takes a stab at guessing what it is. H: "You did it, didn't you? So what'd you wish for Sonomi...?" She asks in a tired and worried voice, very obviously concerned by the thought. And from the sounds of it entirely sure that's what happened, though in truth its merely an educated guess, Homura hopes to have it confirmed and putting on confidence helps there. As for Madoka, she just stands there staring blankly at the boy. Only absently responding to his questions while walking off after a few seconds, like she's on auto-pilot more than anything. M: "I... It's Homura's place really, I just help out sometimes. And I have no idea how she afforded to get it running..." Soon enough the girl comes back with exactly what had been asked for, now seeming to be all there once again while placing it in front of him and putting her hands on her hips. M: "What the heck though!? How are you so much older, and..." There's a pause as she sighs, no those are answers already had. M: "No I get it, you're from another universe or something, or another timeline... Even so, I'm glad to see you again... What all have I missed though, you were three the last I saw of you..." She'd go quiet and absently pull the boy into a hug for a bit, both happy and immensely confused, even knowing what goes on in this madhouse, its still strange seeing her younger brother so much older...
Oh, she knew. She knew alright. Just as Sonomi had feared. Though her legs were jittering, all her torso could do was to move back a little in shock. Her eyes had started to grow teary, but she closed them and beamed as brightly as she could towards Homura, waving her hands in front of her face in attempts to reassure the older girl that everything was fine. S: "Wish? Tee-hee! Homura, what are you talking about?" A: "Yeah, she has a point." Sonomi put her hands down and looked at Asena, her eyes almost begging her to do better, seeing as how Homura wasn't convinced by her presence. Asena did a Zac Efron shrug before taking more pictures of herself. This would be nice and all, were it not for her ring finger clearly being occupied with a ring being shown in all it's glory.
Homura just sighs and shakes her head, staring at the ring which very obviously has a soul gem upon it and gleams with magic. Even if she didn't have a sense for the supernatural, which she does. The girl would still know that item anywhere without a hint of doubt. H: "Look, I get you think that trying not to worry me is a good idea. But you aiming to hide this shit from me doesn't help with that, in fact it just makes me worry even more so stop it. I'm not dumb enough to fall for this line Sonomi, and I'm not naive enough to just let it slide either." She pauses for a moment, staring the girl up and down with a slightly annoyed look on her face. H: "Now, let me try to help you. Please, don't be the kind of person who tries to do everything alone and gets killed for it..." Judging by her tone, Homura has experience dealing with such people most likely.
"Oh, Madoka..." Tatsuya embraces his sister, letting his head lay on his shoulder. "So much has changed I don't know where to begin. For one, there's been much less of a burden on you magical girls since the advent of specialized military divisions in the fields of magical study and witch hunts. Sure is a daunting task for us soldiers, though." Tatsuya chuckles and rubs the back of his head.
Madoka just stares blankly at that... Soliders...? Us??? M: "You... I... What the hell!? That's insane, how did that even happen, why would you even take that kind of job." She's clearly all too concerned by the thought of anyone doing such a job, let alone him. Nevermind the kind of fights she and Homura get into on a normal basis, The idea of ordinary people trying to contend with such things, even with weapons made for it... M: "We... Well, Homura and I, aren't magical girls anymore though. Long story behind all that, we've got other things we use now. And uh, I can't say I know of the military doing anything like that around here..." She pauses for a bit, placing a hand on her chin while staring at the boy. Wondering if perhaps some secret group or another exists that deals in such things and she simply hasn't met them.
Sonomi almost flinches back at Homura's "sudden" change of tone. Tears almost broke out even more, but her facial expression stayed the same. A wavering smile with her eyes closed, now trying to keep in tears. S: "But the ring is an engagement ring and me and Asena were about to get married and- But Asena sighed out and stepped in, walking up to the two girls and speaking up from behind Sonomi. Her expression wasn't too happy, but it couldn't really be helped. A: "Yeah it's a lie. She sucks at it. But I hope you know that she isn't completely alone. That being said, what is this experience you speak of anyway? Just want to know so she can listen up." Her own girlfriend says coldly as she turns her head towards her partner. Sonomi almost tried to give out a reply on her own, but her eyes were too busy looking down, being covered by her own bangs. She couldn't really figure out what to say. As of right now, Asena only looks at Homura merely waiting for a response, hoping that this indirect therapy would work out for the best.
"Why I took the job? Well, i'm gonna wanna settle down eventually and I need a career to attract women. Plus, i've been a huge magic nerd since as long as I can remember! Lego Harry Potter is one of my favorite video games. I guess you could say this is my dream job." Tatsuya lays his elbows down on the counter in front of him and begins to fantasize.
Homura groans and stares over at the other girl, well at least she knows for a fact now... Here comes the hard part, figuring out what to actually say about it. She guesses that there's only thing to do now however... H: "It's a long story, but in short I've been where you are now Sonomi. Now I've already told you some about being a magical girl, but here's the deal. You could stop, I know a way to do that... Something tells me you aren't gonna though, right?" She'd pause for a moment, cracking her knuckles absently while watching the shop become even more empty bar the utter weirdos present. Given that, she goes on a bit further with a worried smile. H: "There's only one way to keep it up, fight and kill witches... I can't exactly fight all your battles for you, nobody can. But I can try and help you get better at fighting them, and much as I hate to admit it I'll get involved myself too." What's the most important thing to remember though... Above all else. Oh, she knows. H: "Keep in mind when it comes to witches, don't ever assume you know how to deal with them, don't get careless. I've seen a girl lose her damn head for that mistake, literally... Don't mess around, don't drag people who can't handle themselves into a barrier, and don't waste your magic." All of that is good well and practical, but there is another matter at hand... She smiles lightly while her voice softens. H: "And for gods sake, try to remember that you matter too dammit. I get that you want to help people, but that doesn't mean you should be willing to toss your life aside Sonomi." She'd just grin a bit while waiting for a reply to that last remark, hand held out towards the other girl. As for Madoka, she sighs a bit and shakes her head while staring at the boy. M: "I... Try to be careful okay. And do me a favor, promise you aren't gonna turn into a constantly snarking fight loving weapon salesmen at some point. I know how oddly specific that sounds, and there's a story there..." She just groans while even pondering the thought, of her brother acting like a certain other Tatsuya she only vaguely knew of. Truly, terrifying. Sends a shiver down her spine really. M: "Now there's a bad thing to ponder..."
Asena listens carefully, with every time Homura says Sonomi's name, she looks at the girl standing there doing nothing, just to see how she responds. With every statement that really needed to be said, her smile gradually rises in authenticy. S: "T-t-that's...i-i-I..." She reaches out for Homura's hand, grabbing it, and looking at her with her watery blue eyes. The smile on her face and the clear stuttering in her words meant that the impact of her words were really needed. S: "Thank you, Homura-chan. That's just what I wanted to hear." Asena practically lip syncs the last bit of her girlfriend's gratitude, snapping her fingers out of satisfaction and pointing as Sonomi herself escalates the contact towards an embrace. A: "Yeah. Thanks. Even though it didn't look like it, I made her come here. It's nice that Sonomi attracts friends like you, Homura."
"Don't worry, Big Sis. I'll make you proud, you'll see." Smiling optimistically, Tatsuya keeps his fears in the back of his mind, appearing to be very in the moment and not considering potential tragedies he might have to face later. "Hey, here's an idea, maybe we should team up from now on? That way we can look out for each other." He pauses for answer, tilting his head and shooting an absent gaze in a manner strikingly similar to his sister.
Madoka would sigh a little bit... She'd rather he just didn't try to fight, but if he's gonna do it then she might as well help. M: "Alright, yeah. That... Does kind of mean hanging around Homura too though, not sure how well you know her but we're... Partners.'' It's a way to describe them, anyways. For now she simply smiles and nods to the boy. Homura on her end smiles a little bit and nods, holding onto Sonomi's hand for a few seconds before she'd let go with a slight laugh. H: "Thanks... Haha, man it's so weird to hear that. I'm honestly glad to have helped you though, it's just a strange feeling to be needed by... Well, anyone except Madoka honestly." There's a minor blush on her face while admiting to that, at least till Homura cracks her knuckles again and grimaces. H: "Oh right... I needed to tell you something too, do you happen to know a magical girl named Suzuki Kuroi? She is, very much someone to look out for. I don't understand all the details yet, but in very short she tried to kill me, Madoka too. Called herself a 'demon lord'... Not a clue what that one is planning, but I doubt it's good."
Sonomi smiles, and lets go as well, looking at Homura being just a little bit confused. She twiddles her fingers around feeling a bit nervous. S: “So does this mean you’re not mad at me-“ Asena, who was just Sonomi’s emotional support girlfriend, now walks up to the two being a boy as he pats Sonomi’s head. He looks back at Homura with a bit of a smug grin. A: “Totally knew it. When Sonomi told me about her, I would have just known she was the suspicious type.” Sonomi, being a bit embarrassed that she got snuck up on, walks closer to Homura and turns around to face Asena. She pouts as she speaks, with Asena looking at her with an indecisive gaze. S: “Hey, I wasn’t all that gullible! You could call this a good position to be in because I can act as a double agent due to her being my mentor! I asked her a few questions that struck true and almost had her on the ropes.“

The girl just stares blankly in horror and fear for her friend's life. It takes several seconds for her to even work a reply up. H: "You... Sonomi what the fuck?" Shadows dance and flicker, and a breeze drifts through the building despite no door being opened at all. It isn't nature, merely the persona user's overflowing emotions causing little bits of her magic to leak out. H: "You can't even lie to me! How do you plan to pull something like that off, you're just a normal girl Sonomi not some secret agent." She isn't angry, merely obviously concerned for the other girl's safety. H: "Whatever you do, don't try and play a game like that. Lying to people constantly is hard, I should know better than most considering I... Well don't worry about it, that was a long time ago. I digress. The point here is that trying to pretend at being some master spy isn't worth it." And technically only one month of it happened too, but that's neither here nor there.
"Yeah, I know all about Homura. I'm sure we'll get along." He glances over in Homura's direction. "She seems busy, though. I'll have to talk to her later."
S: “Uuuuuuhhheeemmmmmmrmmmm, I got mind powers?” Sonomi states with a lack of actual confidence, looking back at her almost concerned thinking her plan could ever be wrong. At the same time, Asena crouches down and tries to poke the persona’s shadows coming from the floor nonchalantly. S: “I know Asena’s thinking where those shadows are coming from.” A: “Totally. You’re also stupid.” S: “Ssshhhh, that’s not the point. But even so, I know. I’ll dial it back Homura-Chan. Apologies...”

The persona user groans out loud as Madoka begins to come over, leaning against her girlfriend's shoulder and very blatently trying to distract her from... Whatever set of feelings is making those shadows and wind lash out, it works too. They stop soon enough while the black-haired girl speaks again. H: "I could have figured that out, not hard when they're being poked at. Fyi, they were coming from me. That... Happens sometimes when I get too stressed out, or angry, or... Look a persona is powered by emotions so it's to be expected." M: "Hellloooooo there Sonomi, how's it going? And Asena, right? Nice seeing you again I guess." Madoka giggles a bit while waving at the pair, Homura would then sigh before getting back to the point. H: "Thanks, Madoka. And Sonomi check your damn soul gem, wasting magic is gonna make it more dark, and all black is well... The end. Not to mention that stress despair and other negative emotions speed along the process of darkening too. Did she even tell you that?" Madoka winces upon realzing exactly what Homura is talking about, she isn't shocked. Just a bit worried. M: "Yeah... We can tell you more about things if you need it."
Both Sonomi and Asena wave at Madoka as she comes by, Sonomi herself smiling a bit more and relaxing her posture a little once she came over. Asena however, just keeps his slouched back and casually slow wave as he glances back at the shadows vanishing. Sonomi decides to look at her ring finger, but doesn’t actually really check it first, leaving her boyfriend to do it for her, S: “Oh hey, Madoka-Chan! I’m just fine, thanks for asking.” A: “Your ‘soul gem’ says otherwise. That’s like 2 shades darker than it needs to be.” She whistles as she looks at it herself, putting it away in hopes that they’ll forget about that. In response to Madoka’s question, she thinks of a topic right upon her response. Once she starts to speak, Asena actually lip syncs to her words in an overly exaggerated manner as he already knows what she’ll say. This kind of makes her embarrassed seeing as she pouts midway through her question. S: “Well, she didn’t exactly tell me that other detail. Man, Suzuki loves keeping things vague. But nonetheless, do you know someone named Sayaka? She was one of the people that Suzuki told me to stay away from. Including you two of course. I’d love to meet with Sayaka-Chan again because our first meeting was very short-lived...”
