Ichijouji Ramen Shop
It was a calm day, average at the least. One might even call it peaceful, just as any other. Or at least as peaceful as such a bustling city could ever be. Our young heroine, a girl about sixteen years of age stands in front of a small ramen shop hidden in some discrete corner of the city. There's still traffic aplenty, but not so much to make it difficult to meet up and chat. Which is perfect, for the occasion. Sen waits outside the shop, checking her phone. Sen had promised to bring Niko and Akia here after all, so she thought to follow-through. Though of course, anyone who passed by would see her.
You waiting for someone right now? [Kazuo, much like any other time, would appear out of nowhere to greet the girl. He was wearing his high school uniform and was lacking his hat, carrying nothing but a bag on his left hand.] Friends I take it.
Sen turns around at the sound of Kazuo's familiar voice. She'd seen him more than anyone else these past few weeks, so she's well-accustomed to it. Still, the girl checks her phone again. "Y.. Yeah. You could say that. I only met them a few weeks ago but I offered to show them to this place." Sen closes her phone with a sigh before putting the device in one of her pockets "But I haven't gotten a reply yet. I should have thought further ahead." Sen narrows her eyes and looks off to the side expectantly. Though there was nothing of note.
After several more minutes, Sen would notice a familiar face walking up. A woman wearing a black t-shirt and simple jeans... An outfit which looks rather torn up at the moment though, not to mention cuts and even a few burn marks on her body. She'd absently wave at the pair with a smile. "Yo! Sorry I'm a little bit late right now, I uh... Got help up doing something is all. Just a bit of work nothing major! I know you Sen, but is he a friend of yours? Name's Akia Sato by the way, nice meeting you probably! " The older woman would smile while glancing at Kazuo and walking up to the building cheerfully. Whatever happened to cause the injuries visable upon her she clearly doesn't feel like speaking on them further. Perhaps that's for the best though, even someone as strange as her can pretend to be normal for a little bit. When she wants. "Anyways, I'm starving so this is the perfect time to show up actually! Always loved a good bowl of ramen."
Maybe they are still on their way or something came up. You never know. [He would take notice of the ramen shop, and would silently put 2 and 2 together. It's not that he couldn't ask, but he would rather get to the point sometimes.] This place doesn't seem all that notorious, do you live around this area? I don't think I remember if you ever told me that much. [He would shrug. While they had met fairly frequently, he didn't really want to get too into personal things. The last thing he wants is to embarrass himself again, this time in front of his junior. Then the new girl would appear. Her friend, obviously. Another weird too, it would seem.] Oh, uh... we are not... I guess we somewhat know each other, that's all. My name is Kazuo, pleasure to meet you.
Many people are coming in and out of the ramen shop. One of those many pairs of countless people is a tall black haird boy with a school outfit and black rimed glasses and a girl with bright orange hair and a green sweatshirt with the letters AFK on the back. They will not appear again and are not important to the story.
"You got in trouble again didn't you?" Sen shakes her head disapprovingly as Akia approaches, obviously in somewhat poor shape, but at least they didn't seem to be hurt "Don't answer that. I'm just glad you were able to come." The girl breathes a sigh of relief, having not honestly expected them to come. That left only Niko, but then again who knows where they might be? For now the girl turns back to Aki and nods "Right, Kazuo is my senior at school. We've met a few times. Kazuo, this is Akia, Akia, Kazuo." Sen gestures to each of them as a form of introduction before continuing "I thought I'd mentioned it before but I've been coming to this city for most of my life. Though I only started living here about a year ago. So I've gotten to learn the place well" Sen looks back up at the Ramen shop with an oddly excited light in her eyes "I come here often to build courage and fortitude."
I never took you as the kind of person to love ramen, you give off a somewhat sophisticated vibe. I figured you would have fancier tastes. [Not that he meant anything by it, ramen was always nice to have, no matter when or where. Except maybe summer. He really didn't think about it, but now that he was there he might as well try to get some too. He felt he needed to know Sen a bit more, and Akia... he knew very well she had something weird, it was almost a rule of nature at this point.] Do you mind if I join you for a bit? I kind of want to know you a bit more. [He said while staring at Sen, and then Akia.] I'm paying my own of course.
"I don't mind. However" Sen crosses her arms, briefly tapping her foot with a deathly serious look on her face. Though this wasn't abnormal for the girl "If you really desire to eat here you're going to have to be able to follow its laws. Are you sure you can handle that?" the last question is pointed at Akia almost as much as it is Kazuo. Though admittedly the more loose and casual girl did seem to be more troublesome.
Akia would laugh a bit while looking at Sen with a wide grin and without even the slightest hint of being serious. "It may shock you to know this, but I'm entirely capable of doing that~! Geez Sen, don't worry bout little old me. I'm pretty peaceful, not harmless though no doubts there at all!" She'd laugh while walking into the building and nodding to Kazuo, the woman has no issues with him tagging along really. She isn't too sure, but that one seems a bit curious from her view. Just an old Inscribed's hunch is all she can really say. "And yeah feel free, heck I just got paid pretty decently so if ya were broke or something I could handle it! My work is sorta unperdiectable in a lot of ways but when it goes well it goes well. Bounty hunting is... Like that, just depends on who's stupid enough to commit enough crime ta get the law paying for em brought in ya know? Anyways come on you two!" She isn't lying about that either, despite the girl's casual carefree nature she is in fact a bounty hunter thank you very much. Illegal fights might be better paid sometimes, but the law is a pain to deal with when you get caught doing anything really serious. Either way, she'd walk into the building and take a look around with a cheery face.
Ah. [He would keep his mouth open and eyes wide, he wasn't expecting her to say all that out of nowhere. He liked to think it was more directed at the other girl, but of course it had to apply to him anyways. After all, he may or may have not stolen two police officer's guns when that one alien attacked and Hero knocked them out. At first he would put his hands inside his pockets and closed his eyes as he chuckled, trying to supress the loud laughter that came afterwards.] You call me awkward, but what was that all about? Geez, of course I can follow the law, I am but a third year high school student. But if I do something wrong, feel free to turn me in, Sen-chan. [He would calm down as Akia replies, deciding to follow her too. He would note she was a bounty hunter, but then again, that said nothing of her skills. He shrugs.] Well then it's settled, I can't wait for the ramen. Although Akia, your job is not one I'm used to hearing about around here. Is that...really legal?
"I'm not so sure about that..." Sen avoids Akia's gaze, deciding to ignore the little bounty hunting comment to focus on Kazuo. Fortunately his question gives her a good reason for it. Her gaze becomes no less serious as they enter the establishment "I simply thought you ought to be warned. This place offers massive portions, and there's only one major rule." Sen points to a piece of paper on the wall. Its an old, well-worn poster that looks like it could have been from the last war. The poster simply reads "remember to conserve, and eat what you get." Its an old novelty thing, but the girl seems to take it as seriously as can be as she sits down at the counter.
It's well known a costumer must eat everything, it's simple respect. I think I can do that much. [Kazuo would quickly sit down and place his bag near his feet, then pressing both elbows on the table, resting his head on the pal of his hands. He would remain notoriously pensive, wondering how to go about things without him getting all nervous like with Asami back at the school festival.] Say, I saw you at GYM the other day Sen. I was wondering what you were doing in such a place... Oh, and by extension, do you know that place, Akia? Normally, people in your line of work or similar frequent it.
Legal... Pff, of course it's legal. Well, it was back home. She actually has bothered to look into it around here, but getting into the details would be a big annoying thing. "It is, there's some cavets involved but I actually know what I'm doing. Lotta problems around this city, so help's needed sometimes. That said I don't wanna bore you two with legal crap I had to dig into!" Ah good, massive portions. Throwing around superpowers is a good way to work up hunger after all, so Akia can't complain about that in the least bit. She would in fact order a rather large pile of noddles vegtables and shrimp with a grin on her face. Upon the GYM question she'd wobble her hand a bit... That and a glass of sake as well. "Eh, I dropped in once. It seems like my kinda place sure. But let's not dig into that too much okay? I'm kinda trying to relax man, and talking about... All that, hardly helps there." She'd shrug slightly while looking at him a bit pointedly, it's a rather sharp contrast to when she's actively trying to deal in such things. As Sen would no doubt be aware of, not that Akia is going to drag any attention toward that. Instead she merely absently sips at her drink with a smile. "Hmm, not bad. I'm gonna guess you aren't old enough to drink either though, right Kazuo? That's a shame if so, I'd buy ya one otherwise."
"Clearly I just felt like watching a blood sport. Couldn't I ask you the same thing?" Sen answers Kazuo with a completely straight face. Though this factor was normal for the girl, who almost never seemed to express herself anyways. When the waiter arrives, Sen orders tonkotsu ramen with an extra egg, alongside a simple drink of water before turning to Akia "I'm... Surprised you put that much thought into it. You always seem like the type to just do what you want." Soon the man would be back with their drinks, if nothing else, so Sen begins to sip casually while the actual food is being worked on. "It actually reminds me of a friend. Though, Nanana's a lot younger than you are."
Akia would just laugh at those words, she takes a few seconds before responding to Sen in a cheery tone. "Ahahaha! Oh man, I'm not that crazy Sen. Don't get me wrong, I don't follow the rules religiously or anything but at the end of the day I try ta stay in my lane as it were. Minor stuff isn't worth worrying over, but when it's serious I actually give things some thought before rushing in." The woman shrugs a little bit at that while taking a drink, it isn't that she's entirely careless. Not really, just that the small details in life aren't worth spending energy on if you ask her. "That said, I guess I can get why you'd think that. It isn't like I go around exuding the air of someone who cares to worry with such things. How about you Kazuo?" She'd give the boy a curious glance, that one's thoughts might be interesting to hear if nothing else. That and she's trying to figure him out too, which is hard if he doesn't say much of anything.
GYM is a nice place too meet people, that's all. [He would order chashu tonkotsu ramen for himself, picking one at random since he had no real preference. To properly try and relax for a bit, he would unbutton his shirt on the top, and then take off his tie, putting it back inside his bag.] Uh... my life isn't all that interesting, I go to high school, study and then get dragged into weird situations, so I've had to learn how to defend myself. I say I live alone, but my mom... I guess she's just super busy all the time so we barely see each other at home. [He would cross his arms, wondering what else to say.] Ah! The other day we had the school festival too, and I met again with Asami who was there for... whatever reason. Quite random if you ask me, so I showed her around.
"I guess I can respect that Akia. Your own form of Justice." Sen chuckles to herself, as if telling an inside joke. Still, the girl's overall solemn demeanor doesn't seem to change. Its a rather simple way of looking at the world, but not a bad one. Still, the girl looks into her glass as she listens to Kazuo before letting out a sigh "My father's like that. As a public prosecutor he often has to go on trips for days at a time." Though the subject seems sad at first, Sen has a somewhat nostalgic smile on her face. However, the girl soon blinks remembering "Right, there was a festival a few days back. I can't believe I forgot about it." The girl's smile turns to a grimace as she derides herself "At least there was someone to meet up with you Kazuo. I trust you made sure they had a good time? None of those weird questions like the last time you met."
What your father does I can respect a lot, being a prosecutor sounds incredibly hard. Seishiro Megumiba, right? My mom's name is Yuriko Takahara, she owns a bar in Kichijouji. [He smiles with both eyes closed as he reveals a tiny bit regarding his own life, considering she always is naming her father around. He would then slowly blush, trying to cover his face from the embarrassment.] There was some of that again since we were all alone, but I saved it at least, I'm not good at casual talk. She asked me to slow down and then I almost chocked on the coffee we were having at the Date Cafe. [He clears his throat, wishing he hadn't left his hat back at home. At least with it he would be able to conceal his emotions much more easily.] Anyways, I didn't know you were planning to show up. I'm not much into those but I was bored. If you did, I probably would've been more relaxed in general.
"Right, you might have heard his name every now and then, but my father doesn't really work on high-profile cases. Your mother's job sounds.. Quaint." Sen awkwardly looks back into her glass. She grins a little, but responds with a corner of her mouth turned up "Sounds like you need to make some friends then. Maybe don't run straight into the dating scene." Soon everyone's ramen would arrive. As promised, the bowls are massive, easily the size of a head, Sen thanks the waiter before looking back to Kazuo "Of course I was supposed to be there. I did mention I was on the student council right? As a member of student governance its my duty to appear at all sorts of events, no matter how silly it might seem. That festival was one of the biggest events Kosei hosts. My absence is a disgrace." Sen lets that final piece of attention go by before beginning to eat, seemingly lost in thought as she stares into her bowl
Hah, it fits her. Yuriko is one of a kind. [He would smirk, but that smile would quickly disappear at the girl's sudden remark. He would cross his arms and mock the girl with his expression, all smug.] Asami is cute, but I don't think I know her enough to consider anything like romance. I'm would rather make friends and maybe consider if they are my type after, or something of the kind. [If he wasn't interested beforehand already, anyways. When the bowls arrive, he raises both eyebrows, not exactly sure if he could finish his own with how much it was. He would look at Sen and then back at his own bowl. He heard quite clearly, he had to follow the one law of this land, and he wasn't going to look like he couldn't in front of the girl. Slowly, he began to eat as he listens to her every word. Once she's finished, he would continue.] Why didn't you show up then? I'll...admkt was kind of hoping to see you around, even if Asami was pleasant to see. Oh, but don't tell Sen I said that. [He would say the last part in a joking manner.]
Noticing Kaz's gaze moving between her and the bowl, Sen simply grins before remarking "I did warn you about the portions." Before continuing to eat her own. For the time being, it seemed worthwhile to take turns, eating while listening to the other. So when Kazuo's done the girl sets her bowl back down with a sigh "There's no particular reason, really." Sen nervously toys with her food as she thinks about how to phrase things. Not that there's anything to say. Or is there? The girl lets out another sigh before saying "I've just been distracted lately. It totally slipped my mind..."
You were at GYM and saw Madoka and Yes-man fight, and the festival was almost right after. Am I right in guessing that has to do with it? The display of power was something else. [He would keep eating, wondering if this was the right thing to do, to offer what he was about to, but really they were both in a similar situation, and his experience may prove to be useful to her.] If there is any question you have about Madoka, I can probably answer. ...regarding her powers and how she got them, that is. I have no idea on the other guy though. [Although normally his expression was that of a laidback person, the moment he began to offer her some information, he seemed a bit more competent, considerably more serious.] If you're interested to dwell in that kind of life. You may never be able to go back to your day to day life as you know it.
"I'm well aware of the risk involved. You don't have to treat me like a kid." Sen lets out an irritated huff, using her bowl of ramen as an excuse to take a break and think before finishing the thought "That won't be necessary. A certain channel at Midnight on a rainy day, is it not? Within lies an ordeal that'll grant one power if they can pass it. Do I have it right so far?" What little friendliness was in Sen's expression earlier is consumed by a fierce determination as she looks back to Kazuo. However, it vanishes a moment later, returning to a troubled expression as she looks into her soup "Funny how much it sounds like a stupid rumor we might spread around school some day. Still, there's no reason to worry. I'll be fine as I am." even going this far had said more than Sen had intended. She wouldn't want to make Kazuo worry more than he had been. Not purposelessly anyways. Yet she doesn't know anything to say that might allay his fears, so the girl speeds up, aiming to finish her meal as quickly as possible.
That's one way to go about it, but there's more than one method. Obtaining a Persona sounds simple but it's somewhat of a hassle. I was there when Madoka got hers and we all almost got killed in the battle. [It was interesting to him how she already knew about it, but not unexpected. If they have been meeting this often then it's obvious she's dealt with Persona users as well. He smirks. They make it way too easy to get information, being so trusting and naive.] I want you to know that I'm not worried, I just want to make sure you know exactly what you're getting into. If you want a Persona, then you'll have to be ready to face yourself and have others see all that too. [He continues to eat as calmly as he was before.] Simply put, if you decide to do it on your own, I can guarantee you'll die.
"I've already told you there's no need to concern yourself. I'm not going to do anything reckless." Sen ends the conversation with that. There wasn't any point in going any further in that direction, so she simply won't. Still, it was enough to make this entire meeting awkward at best, and frustrating at worst. With the mood completely ruined, Sen makes it her priority to finish eating as quickly as possible so she can move on.
[Kazuo sighs in disappointment. He could tell things were going to go in the direction he was expecting, they all do the same and then get in the way. He keeps his eyes closed for a moment, like talking to himself for the longest time as he eats, almost finished. He decided the best thing he could do for the moment is let things cool down for a second there. So his inner voice said. I'm sorry. I've had too much in my mind lately, can't shake away the stress with anything. [Only after he says this does he open his eyes again, his expression getting softer.] I let the tension get through.
"I noticed." Sen retains her steely gaze for a moment, before letting out a sigh and deciding to let the conversation drop. It was clear that they wouldn't get anywhere anyways. Still, the tension in the air doesn't seem to clear as she finishes her meal. "Still, at least we got to know each other a bit better. If you don't learn to relax a bit you'll have a harder time making friends." Sen once again declares with a straight face. Once she's finished she looks into the massive bowl for a while. She'd want to wait a little before actually leaving in any case.
At this rate we'll become friends next year then. Can't believe my junior is giving me advice with this. Almost shameful. [Kazuo would finish his bowl and let out a sigh, almost sad he still didn't get used to this kind of situation and was a whole other person in weirder moments, maybe even more stressful.] ... It was nice to know you a bit more, if anything. I'll do my best. You guys have fun. [It's not that he wanted to make friends, but Asami and Sen were...different within his own mind, somehow. Maybe it was that they weren't dangerous or something within him wanted him to change for a bit. He shrugs and leaves his own part of the money. Kazuo's expression for a second there seemed to indicate a small degree of regret before it gles away and turns into calm indifference.] See you at school, Miss Student Council. And see you around, older woman. [He would take his bag and leave the shop calmly.]
