(Spoilers)Is Akechi your favorite character, despite what he did?
I'm just wondering. Personally, he is my favorite, despite what he did. I felt sorry for him.
i can't find any forgiveness for him!!

but i do think that his voice actors did a good job!!
@pure-anon Yeah, his voice actor was very great.
What he did was unforgivable, but he had good reasons, (Unlike another Persona serial killer) and he really did seem to regret his actions at points. Plus, him doing something bad doesn't make him well-written. I like him.
He was one of my favorite characters in the whole game. I just couldn't find it in myself to be a dick to him even though it was kinda obvious he was supposed to be a bad dude.

Really hope something comes along that let's us see things from his perspective.
To be honest I find Adachi from Golden a better character than Akechi. There is a bigger bond between Yu and Adachi in Golden then there is between Acheki and Joker in 5. When Yu figures out Adachi had been deciving him you can sort of feel his pain. Akechi is harder to sympathize to with since he is also kind of a dick from the beginning so his betrayal doesn't seem as tragic as Adachi's from Golden.
Bro, he killed people because he just felt like being an asshole. At least Akechi's reasoning for committing murder is better than: "hurr durr thot"
He was corrupted by power, and was broken by neglect...I can't forgive his actions, but I can't hate him.
He's innocent!!!
I prefer not to choose favorites but I do like (and dislike) them all equally
Having a reason for murdering people doesn't necessarily make you a better character. Not to mention Akechi's motive for revenge doesn't make much sense and is mostly an excuse to kill people.
No. Never was, never will be.
Though I find Adachi more relatable; I think a lot of us know the pain of a dead-end job, I don't find his motive very sympathetic or making much sense. What Akechi did was a very anime-style twist, and though there's a lot of flaws in his logic, yes; but by that point it's established that Akechi is not right upstairs. I just find Adachi to be rushed and out of left field, and though Akechi isn't much better; he's much more sympathetic in my eyes.
No he's not, Akechi is a bad guy who did bad things, no amount of daddy issues can justify murdering a bunch of people to say "ha ha get done dad!"

Also he was ultimately undone by not shutting the fuck about about delicious pancakes so I can't take him seriously
I like him as a character. Akechi's a lonely teenager who chose to close up his feelings and act perfect in order to be accepted by a society who heavily rejects illegitimate children. No one could've or would've guided him about his hatred, which is instead manipulated upon by some god. It's fairly heavily implied he hates that he has to murder for his father - he mentions he wishes he knew about changing hearts before offhandingly, too - but again, his unguided feelings are simply used against him - plus, I doubt he would've stayed alive if he decided to stop working for Shido anyway. To him, killing his father after all that would make up for it.

Akechi could've opted out anyway even after he began working for Shido, so I can't say he's forgivable, but it's easy to see that the odds were against him just from the nature of his conception and that the feelings
path he naturally took as a person was used to other people's advantage. It's...pitiful. There's a chance he could've grown better if he could've gone back to the Phantom Thieves and finally opened up to a support system. After all, they still accepted him to some extent even after his backstory and nasty motives were revealed.

Regardless, I think I would've liked him to some extent even without the sympathy. I liked Adachi a lot, for example. People like things without much explanation.

Felt Akechi was rushed though. The thing about being jealous of Akira's bonds felt like a weak rehash of Adachi's jealousy as well.

I do not like Akechi, he tries to murder my Master, the trickster of my heart.

I always have a hard time deciding on My Absolute Favorite but Akechi's definitely a contender.

I've got a soft spot for mentally ill kid characters who end up doing terrible things because they were manipulated into serving that purpose, I guess.

I only really have to think about what probably would have happened to Akechi had he succeeded and man, yikes. He may have done terrible things, but poor kid.

Let's be real here, if he had managed to expose Shido the way he planned, then there's no way he would have been able to bask in his fame after that. Shido would absolutely have dragged Akechi down with him.

Basically he was in way too deep to have any sort of positive outcome happen to him. Shit sucks. I'm glad that the Phantom Thieves recognized how shitty his life was even while still condemning him for his actions.

I do think that his "death" (off-screen deaths cannot be trusted) was kind of a cop-out, though.

It feels like the game was trying to just avoid having to answer the question of "What do you do with a person who's been so abused they become an abuser?" and unceremoniously removed him from the story before that question could be addressed.

IMO it would have been much more interesting had Akechi been able to take up the Thieves on their offer to rejoin them, and then had to deal with the question of what to do with him later.
