So I played SMT Nocturne for the first time...
So an hour and a half in, I'm still in the hospital, and I got bored. Literally what's the big deal with this game? It's just Persona for edgelords. I don't like games with random encounter battles anyway, so I don't know why I should keep playing. It's just another Persona game, except without the likable characters.
Really if you play this game it's to get kicked in the balls and kick your opponent back, not to get to know the characters.
Yeah, sometimes it's pretty boring.
Yeah, I like easy, casual games. SMT ain't for me.
I've played through most of it and I don't really get why people like Nocturne either
>Persona for edgelords
Hazamod is HazaMAD
It's a good game but it doesn't really have anything to pull me in.

I recommend looking into Digital Devil Saga, it's still harder than Persona, albeit easier than most mainline games, but I think you'll enjoy the plot and cast more.
Keep Playing The Video Game Until You Finish It
Marsh is a good man
I'm really not interested in the game tho
Honestly, I just wanna know the SMT lore outside of Persona.
Well, you've got Law and Chaos. YHVH vs Lucifer to change the world for their own needs. If you're a wishy washy Gaylord you'll pick neutral. And basically you raise demons to your cause and mess shit up. You're the only "human" in your party besides three demons.

and that's basically it its mostly about world building and exploration
SMT has always had a focus on gameplay over story, unlike Persona. I urge you to leave the hospital, it really isn't hard and the game gets good once you leave the tutorial. The gameplay is mainline SMT at it's finest, and the story may not be a huge focus; but it does make you think now and again. Also, Dante is in it. Jackpot.
If you wanna know about Lore I can cover several of the games basic stories over Discord. Like they said above, story takes a backseat to gameplay in Nocturne especially. I disagree a lot though, if you don't enjoy the game in the hospital, then the entire game is going to be a fucking crawl.

I agree with Hazama, the game does get good once you get past the tutorial. And while the story isn't focused on as much there's still good points to it and plenty of ways to fool around
Also the hospital doesn't reflect the rest of the game. I hated it too but I had fun once I finally got out
Hey, Knights of the Old Republic II has a shitty tutorial but the rest of the game is f*cking awesome.
I'm still gonna play at least until I get out of the hospital.
It's awesome I like being on edge the whole time because one fuckup can kill you so you always want to use everything available to you for a contingency plan. In persona 3 onwards you just kill everything before it moves with very little effort if you do that. And I like the minimalist approach in it's own way, in the same way as games like etrian odyssey, it's a brutal journey where you have to make your own conclusions, and getting over the bumps in the road is super satisfying. Also, recruit and fuse a party of 3 demon waifus at once! Yeah, I like this game a lot.
First of all, this^. I never got rid of High Pixie for some damn reason.

Second- if you want an SMT game more like Persona, play IV Apocalypse and choose the bonds route...you pansy. :^)
It'll grow on you, Mako-chan. I actually like random encounters because I got tired of trying to strike first when encountering an enemy in Persona.

Also keep that pixie and make sure you have anti-zan demons after you go to ginza.
Yeah if you want Persona like story and characters check out the Devil Survivor games as well. They're not easy but they have a big character and story focus that's pretty good.
By the way it seems like Nocturne is the odd one out of the series.

SMT usually has this blend of technology and demons...but Nocturne feels really, really dark compared to its predecessors. It feels so...mystical.
Nocturne is weird yes. In the first two MC can't even Learn any magic at all. Then come 3 suddenly we're playing a half demon god of destruction. That's a big shift.
I do get great enjoyment out of it because I named my character Yuki Mishima.
It's weird how demi-fiend's actual name (Naoki Kashima) does sound like Yuuki Mishima
Reminder that I hate silent protagonists having canon names
Well no, how should I put it?

When they aren't named in the source material, but then an adaptation comes around and has to give them a name. Then, everyone sort of makes that name canon. Me personally, I don't like the name Akira for the P5 protagonist whatsoever. I get that it's more convenient, I guess it's just a bit of a pet peeve.
@hazama
Kazuya, Aleph, Naoki, Flynn, Nanashi, Naoya Toudou, Tatsuya Suou, Makoto Yuki, Yu Narukami, Akira Kurusu
@hazama @IamThou There's also Minato Arisato and Seta Souji
I like canon names cuz I have no creativity so it gives me something to give them
I HATE how the "canon" names are never fucking consistent though
Souji Seta and Yu Narukami
Minato Arisato, Makoto Yuki, Sakuya Shiomi
Naoya Toudou, Yuya Narumi, Jihei Suakuin
Sho, Kazuya, Futsuo
If you wanna name them in adaptions for fucks sake find something to stick to please
I remember my friend played Nocturne before me and she named her character Asshat so when I watched her play the game that was just what I remembered him as. I forgot he technically had a name bc I would I just call him Asshat or Demi Fiend and that was like his canon name for me.
And I like canon names because it gives me something to refer to them as, but I agree with @Hibiki. The consistency leaves much to be desired...
I'm just glad most fans usually agree to use specific ones like Kazuya or Naoya, though it bothers me sometimes that like Yu and Makoto are the norm because I hate those ones I still use Minato and Souji personally
Makoto has always been weird for me because he's only called that in the movies, and personally I think Minato sounds better in general. I do prefer Yu over Souji though, but that might be because it was the first one I heard
Still better names than Asshat though
Naming a character Yu just sounds like a bad joke I can't take him seriously like that
I feel you. As much as I prefer the name it's still really awkward
@UnlostFrost The kid from final fantasy tactics advance is always going to be Fuckface to me because of this
I reccomend Neptunia is you want good characters and casual playing
@pixie perfect
The only character with an inconsistent name is Arisato. Narukami is the P4 character's canon name, and everyone else only has one name. Hell, I'm pretty sure I remember them using Arisato in Q before scraping both guys' names to make them silent protagonists.

As for Nocturne, as others have said, it's much more gameplay focused than story.
