[FIS] Gray's Magic Lessons
*With the consent of the majority of the Investigation Squad, Gray had turned the Headquarters into a sort of classroom.*

"All right, then... let's see who turns up."
*Hyllock opens the door, shily looling around*
Is... is this the place?
Looking*
*Gray noticed Hyllock enter the room.*

"Yes, this is the place. At the moment, I'm waiting on other people - having to start explanations or demonstrations over again isn't exactly something I like doing."
*Raven walked in, carrying some exercise books*
...Gray...?
"Ah, Raven. Nice to see you."

*Gray adjusted his glasses.*

"We're going to wait a few more minutes to make sure that everyone who wants to learn is here, after which I'll go over the basics of the Eorzean schools of magic."
Oh! Miss Kisaragi! Hello!
*The cute neko, the one you obviusly never meet, greets Raven*
*Raven greets the familiar looking girl before seating herself, flicking open her book to get ready*
Oh, right.
*She seats too, an unexpected profesionality emanates from her. Looks like she is taking this serious*
*Gray, after witnessing no newcomers, sighed.*

"Well, I suppose if I don't start now, I'm likely to not start at all. Now, then - in Eorzea, there are five studies of magic - three that focus upon healing wounds and two that focus upon creating them."

*Sketches appeared on the whiteboard behind Gray - depicting a man using a book with what seemed to be some kind of fox at his side.*

"Two of these forms of magic find their origins with the way of the Arcanist - a study of magic that focuses upon commanding familiars and dealing in enfeebling magics, though also capable of restorative magic as well. Those that are particuarly well-versed in their studies of this branch of magic can take one of two paths - the path of the Summoner, which focuses more on dealing damage, and the path of the Scholar, which focuses on healing damage."
*Raven nodded before scribbling some notes down onto her book*
...Mr. Tenebris..how many types of summons are available...?
Hm... is necesary a familiar in order to use magic?
"That tends to vary depending on the person summoning. The average number seems to be two for Arcanists or Scholars and three for Summoners. Now, on to the familiars themselves."

*The sketches on the whiteboard changed, showing two colors of the fox from before, two differently-colored fairies, and three feral-looking creatures - the first seeming like it is going to cause the whiteboard to erupt into flames, the second seemingly constructed out of stone, and the third looking as if it was trying to blow away the other two. One of the foxes, one of the fairies, and the stone-like creature were colored orange. The other fox, the second fairy, and the harpy-like creature were colored green. Lastly, the lizard-like creature was colored red.*

"Arcanists command fox-like familiars called "Carbuncles" in two variants - Emerald, which focuses on dealing damage to foes from afar, and Topaz, which focuses on protecting it's summoner from harm. Scholars command aetherial faries - Eos, the green fairy, focuses on healing over time, and Selene, the orange fairy, focuses on supporting both it's summoner and their allies. Lastly, Summoners command beasts known as "Egis" - taking the shape of monstrosities called Primals that the summoner has defeated. The three most common Egis are-" *Gray pointed to the red creature* "Ifrit,-" *Gray pointed to the orange stone-like creature.* "-Titan, and-" *Gray pointed to the green harpy-like creature.* "-Garuda. Most fledgling Summoners are seen with Ifrit, as it is the weakest of the three."
*bursts through the doors* Sorry if im late!
"As for whether or not a familiar is needed, while it is not required, it most certainly helps - the Carbuncles and Egis assist their summoners with dealing damage to end fights, and the Fairies assist their summoners with keeping everyone in a given group on their feet."
*Gray noticed Dahlia bursting through the door.*

"...thankfully, you did not miss much, as the study of the Arcanist, for the time being, is lecture only - I can't quite seem to get the summons working properly in a combat situation, so personally teaching the way of the Arcanist to people would be a fruitless effort. The other schools of magic, thankfully, lack this issue."
*Raven kept scribbling notes*
...Then...how difficult is it to pick up the Arcanist arts..?
OOC: So is pretty late, and I have to go.
Lets just pretend Hyllock was never here, ok?
Sorry!
*tries to write down everything on the board in her notebook*
"In Eorzea, it is somewhat difficult, but quite possible - to the point where it can become the first form of combat a fledgling adventurer is capable of using should they keep their wits about them."

*Gray sighed.*

"However, the Nexus is a different story. Despite my attempts, it seems that it is impossible to summon forth a familiar and keep it corporal for any longer than one action. However, I have found that I have access to summons that would be largely impossible within Eorzea as a tradeoff. I still do not feel comfortable teaching the art of the Arcanist here at this point in time, at any rate."
*May or may not be once again sitting outside the door. Tihs time taking careful notes as she listens in...*
*Raven pondered it for a bit*
..Then..what about conventional magic that is usually depicted in the media..?
...Casting fire..or healing someone...?
*Gray's brow furrowed.*

"Migrant, I can hear you out there. If you are going to listen in, then at least have the common decency to come in."
I see... that's quite an interesting piece of information.. *writes that down in her notebook*
*may or may not have access to the security cameras and is taking notes*
*Is very bad at stealth, so sits down in the back and continues taking copious notes.*
*Gray turned to Raven*

"Patience, Miss Kisaragi. Though funny that you mention fire spells..."

*The images on the whiteboard changed once more - depicting a man using a rod to cast a fire-based spell, with three burning orbs circling him.*

"Next is the way of the Thaumaturge - a study of magic that relies upon using fire, ice, and thunder spells to demolish anything standing in their path. Those that are well-versed in the ways of the Thaumaturge can become Black Mages - who can cast stronger spells by drawing upon the power of the world itself."
*Raven scribbled some notes, clearly interested in the idea of being a Black Mage*
..Then what of healing spells?
*she takes note of the events on the board*
"Mastering the arts of a Thaumaturge requires an understanding of two stances, so to speak - Astral Fire, which increases the potency of your fire spells but completely halts any form of inate regeneration of mana with which to cast them, and Umbral Ice, which increases the potency of your ice spells and increases your natural mana regeneration to borderline absurd levels. Mastering this grants you the ability to dole out a considerable amount of raw damage. Failing to understand this can leave you in a variety of sticky situations."

*The board changed to a caricature of a black mage with three orbs of ice surrounding him as a woman with a staff, a child-like person with a book, and a brick-wall of a man wielding a massive sword have looks of pure disgust practically painted on their face.*

"Oh, and... don't try to cast ice spells and nothing else. Not only will you lack the damage that the school of magic is known for these days, you will also draw the ire and ridicule of anyone that happens to be around you."
I see. *takes notes*
*Writes in fairly large letters "DON'T BE GAMMA"*
"Now, then. As Thaumaturge is rather simple to understand at base concepts, on to the next school of magic."

*The board changes once more, this time depicting the same woman with a staff as before, holding her staff aloft as her allies - the book-using small man and the brick-wall sword user - seemed to be in the process of picking themselves off the floor to fight again.*

"On to the way of the Conjurer - a group of spellcasters that use both their inate aether and the power of the land itself to heal their allies and use earth, wind, and water magic to ward off foes. Those that are well-versed in the arts of the Conjurer can become White Mages - who have unparalleled healing spells."
Hm... *more notes*
"The art of the Conjurer is more-or-less keeping fellow adventurers on their feet... picking them off the ground as need be. Though Conjurer - and White Mage, moreso - have combat spells in the event that they are either alone or the last man standing, ranging from the simple Stone to the powerful Holy."

*The board changes to another caricature, this time, of a White Mage saying that they are out of mana as the Black Mage from earlier looks on with a look that practically screams "what the hell?"*

"Just... don't go too overboard with Holy."
*Raven scribbled more notes*
....Got it...
Of course... its always a healers job to make sure everyone's at the top of their game, first and foremost! *notes not to overuse offensive magic*
"Lastly, there is a relatively new art of magic thathas been drawing attention."

*The whiteboard changes again to a man using what seemed to be a star globe and cards to heal and empower his allies.*

"That art is the way of the Astrologian. The crux of an Astrologian's magical power - both healing and harming - comes from the celestial bodies above them - the stars powering the majority of their magic, the sun powering their regenerative abilities in Dinural Sect, and the moon powering their ability to shield others from harm in Nocturnal Sect. In addition, their deck of Arcana - the Arrow, the Balance, the Bole, the Ewer, the Spear, and the Spire - allow them to empower their allies with such boons as regenerating their inate mana, increasing their attack speed, and increasing the potency of their abilities."
*Perks up and takes even more furious notes at the mention of Arcana*
"Now, then..."

*Gray pulls out a rod, brandishing in in a similar manner as the Black Mage drawing from earlier.*

"...who's ready for a demonstra-"

*A red fox-like creature - a Carbuncle - walks over to Gray, a letter in it's mouth.*

"...Hang on a moment. What is it, Ruby?"

*Gray pulled the letter from the Ruby Carbuncle's mouth and read it, a look of slight sadness on his face.*

"...Really should've seen that coming."

*Gray turned to his class.*

"Well, so much for the demonstration - the owners of this appartment complex don't want to risk me damaging the place. Can't say I blame them."
That may be interesting... *takes notes*
Maybe your next lesson should be in a park.
"Suppose that's a thing for the next lesson, then. Perhaps by then, I'll be able to figure out how Summoner works in the Nexus."

*Gray placed his hands on the desk.*

"Regardless, that's all I had planned for the day. Class dismissed."
I would certainly look forward to that! *returns to leblanc, looking content*
Certainly something to think on. More knowledge about how life in the Nexus works.
