Persona 5 is not canon?
Hey guys this is just a though that cross to my mind while playing the game.
This began when I saw that the year in the game is not directly stated (By showing 20XX) and also because this game setting is set in a real world place (Shinjuku, Shibuya, etc).
While in previous games the settings were fictional cities.
What also made me think about this was the main plot of the game which is rebellion/fight for freedom. The state of Japan nowadays, from what I heard, is quite bad. After you end school people normally work themself almost everyday like a machine, thus losing a reasong to live while everything become meaningless for them. They lose will to live and begin to hope for they end to come.
I think that this game was made for specially for the people of Japan to don't give in to despair of wishing for the end to come. To tell them that there is still hope in this world.
But this is just a quick theory I though of.
Now; what is your opinions about it?

C_Helel.
Cute theory. But I don't see why any of this would make it non-canon?

You started out strong and ended with a point that really had no bearing on canonicity.

I assume they left the exact year out so that they can get away with using real world locations without fear of persecution. Say something happens that somewhat resembles the game and it was the same year as the game, people would make dumb jokes saying that Atlus predicted the future and a lot of idiots would think it was true. Or something.

I'll just sit here with my tinfoil hat and children's card games.
