In persona 5 I believe that the game takes place inside the main protagonist head. For hiting the man he was jailed and sentenced to stay in prison instead of going to leblanc. He would read books about famous people and symbols like the Necronomicon and the pirate king, Captain Kidd. He met a friend on the inside who looked like igor from the velvet room, as he talked to this man he learned about the mans life before bars he talked about his family, his son sojiro who would have been around 30 at his time, how he was friends with Ryuji's dad and learned on the phone about futaba. He took the books he read, the view of what it would be like in shibuya and Tokyo, the friends he made and the jailors that detained him when he would act out, and his own fantasies and make beliefs to create a story in his mind of him surveying the land as a thief wrongfully accused of what happened and as the thief he fought his own inner demons and finally accepted his fate, which is when akechi killed him, and while the way he would talk about crazy fantasies and was sent into solitary confinement.
