Haven Research Institute: Catalyst for Change

A mysterious text has been sent out at random. It invites the reader to come visit a certain address for a test. Normally, it would be deemed a simple spam message, but it mentions that Persona-users are desired... The address leads to a large, white building. A well-maintained grassy yard leads up to the door.

The sign near the front says "Haven Research Institute." Just beyond the sliding glass doors, a receptionist types at her desk.

*walks in and goes to the receptionists desk* Excuse me, I got a text saying to come here and I was wondering if this was the place.

The receptionist looks up at the trio. "So you're the group Miss Coda contacted? She wants you to go to room 203. It's on the second floor, near the top of the staircase. And... wait..." She blinks, then squints at Bona. "C-04? What are you doing here? You should be on the third floor..." She sighs. "No matter. You in particular should go to the third floor."

Thank you again... *Before he walks, he turns back to Bona* C-04? Ah, now's not the time... Off I go! *Rom walks to room 203*

On the second floor, Rom and Ikebu come across a pure white room. A few chairs with wired helmets sit nearby, and a handful of people in white labcoats fiddle with some devices and computers. A slightly robotic, female voice comes from some speakers nearby. "Glad you two could make it~" --- On the third floor, two men in white labcoats approach Bona. One grabs his hand and leads him to a room. "Honestly, C-04, how did you get out so easily?" "Last I checked, he vanished from his room. Not sure how he did it." "Coda said it was a mutation in his code and he got destroyed that way, but perhaps he just teleported out and ended up downstairs..." The two chatter on as they lead him towards a room.

"You bet! Thanks to some data, we've been able to virtually emulate and manipulate Personas. That's why we've called you here: to test out the program using subjects with naturally-created Personas! All you have to do is sit down in a chair." --- The room Bona is taken to is a light gray, with a bed, desk, computer, and other necessary items. "You'll be here for a few minutes, and then we'll take you to 314 with the other 04 units. Just sit tight, alright?" The door is closed and locked, leaving Bona in the room. A file on the laptop is open.

I see... I have noticed before that the lack of a persona in VR doesn't really mess with mana flow... Oh, also I've got a bit more data as well... As I said, it shouldn't really impede with any of your progress... *Plugs the USB into the helmet's USB port, and unplugs it shortly after. He then sits down on the chair* I'm ready...

The duo's vision dims, then the world changes into a dark cave. A few blue crystals light up the area. "Alright, first things first, attempt to summon your Personas! Scordatura is on standby in case anything needs adjusting." Coda's voice comes out of nowhere. --- The file reads as follows: "B. O. N. A. Unit C-04, After some initial tests, we have discovered your ability to alter your code- or rather, your code having inherent weakness and instability. These strange mutations are likely a result of your original creator's 'adaptive AI' intentions. However, these changes are miniscule. A program has been attached to increase the fluctuations. Haven Research Institute is not responsible for any deletion or viruses as a result of this. -CODA"

I see... The data I inserted should help with that... *Rom snaps his fingers, and his silver dragon-like mask appears. He feels his face, his fingers skimming through the mask's details* Let's hope for the best... Anansi! *Tears off the mask, hoping Anansi would appear*

Anansi appears behind him, more realistically than expected. A satisfied hum is heard from Coda. Inari Okami appears, but its form flickers. A strange creature with robotic legs and pointed ears steps into view. It mutters behind what seems to be a surgeon mask as it taps the Persona with a claw, causing it to return to normal. "[There. Just needed to alter a line.]" "Thank you, Scordatura~ Now, press onwards!" --- The door opens once more, and one of the scientists from before leads Bona to another, much larger room. A glass wall separates him from some people on the other side. On Bona's side of the room, he sees... two of himself? Both have wires on their bodies, but one in particular has more gadgets attached to him than the other.

Wow... It worked! Let's go... Oh, and one more thing... *Rom summons Perl, creating a small whirlwind around them for a second* This would also be a good time to test out some adjustments...

"Ooh, adjustments! Can't wait~" As the two head forwards, a half-bird, half-human man approaches them, as well as a black porcupine-like beast. "Try defeating the Harpy Fledgling and Edgehog with your Personas!" --- "Wait, C-04's back?" The less-wired Bona laughs and hugs them. "We thought you died!" "Whoa, B-04, you're going to knock him over!" The other Bona smiles a little. "Anyway, good to see you back." "So, A-04, we're all supposed to try summoning our Personas, right?" B-04 asks. A-04 nods. "Right. They're trying to see how much it can be restricted."

Alright! You know what to do, Anansi! *The pages of Anansi's tomebook flip rapidly as he raises his scepter, casting tentarafoo on the enemies, confusing them if successful*

*is kinda confused, but goes along with it anyway* Glad to see you again, A-04. You too, B-04. Anyways, summoning our persona? That's easy! *pulls out a card and smashes it, summoning kappa behind him*

The Edgehog is struck by the Agidyne. It snarls and curls up into a ball. The Harpy Fledgling coos upon being hit by Tentrafoo and flies in a shaky circle. --- "Alright! Persona!" B-04 smashes a card, and his own identical Kappa appears after a delay. A-04 does the same, although all that appears is a small blue flame, which immediately vanishes.

Status in the virtual world: Edgehog is preparing to strike, and Harpy Fledgling is absolutely baffled. --- A-04 adjusts the device around his neck. "Right. Unless the person controlling them, Scordatura, allows it, I can't really summon anything..." He sounds a little bitter. B-04 switches to Pillowzilla, which sends some flames into the air. "At least they work fine when we can!" Behind the glass wall, some of the scientists are talking to a computer screen.

I've been experimenting a little bit with this... Let's go, Perl! *Perl barks in agreement as she spits out waves of wind, forming a small tornado around the Harpy, and Rom adds shards of ice to the tornado, making it some sort of Whirlwind Blizzard*

"Ooh, teaching a Wolf Pup some wind skills! Must be because of its coding to become Winged Wolf..." The Harpy is hurt by the wind, although resists the ice. The spinning that results from the whirlwind makes it dizzy! The Edgehog curls up and rolls towards Ikebu at a high speed. --- A-04 smiles back. "You think so?" One of the scientists steps into the room. "C-04- er, actually, not C-04. You're the original, right? Scordatura told us."

It worked! A winged wolf, you say? I'm interested... Anyway, how about a new combo? Perl, Garu! *Perl sends another whirlwind at the harpy. This time, Rom slams the end of his lance to the ground, envelops it in light, and unleashes said wave of light at the harpy*

ooc: My apologies, was busy entering a school game ic: The Harpy Fledgling is blown to the ground, and blasted away by the wave of light. The Edgehog, however, skids to a stop and is struck, although its spines soften the blow. --- "Come with me, then." A-04 and B-04 look at each other as the scientist takes him back into another room. The speakers crackle inside. "[Greetings, B. O. N. A. Unit 04. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Your outward similarities to C-04 were simply too great, as they never had many visible devices on them.]"

The Edgehog is struck down, and the two find themselves in the testing room again. Coda's voice chimes in. "Excellent work! I got great data from this!" --- "[Anyway, I am known as Scordatura. I am in charge of these 04 units, which were created from your data, which was stolen by Master Coda.]" One of the scientists puts a device on Bona. "[Hm... these scans... yes, you have installed some anti-virus software recently. You are a program vulnerable to them, with your code.]"

How am I vulnerable to them? They're made by my friends and I know that they wouldn't put viruses on me. *he seems a bit confused*

*Gets up from the chair and checks his phone, grinning.* Same here! That was slightly short lived... Anyway, is that it?

"Yep! Besides, I wanted to watch one of those human 'American football games' with one of the scientists, so I decided to make this short and sweet. Of course, I'm still open to questions!" --- Scordatura makes a few clicking noises. "[What I meant was, your code on its own was vulnerable. Those anti-virus programs cover that weakness.]"

His name is Kashi Kinasu. I can just text him. *pulls out his phone and begins to text and at the door of the building, Dr. Kinasu arrives.*

The receptionist, getting an immediate message from Scordatura, directs Dr. Kinasu to the third floor. "Nice job, Scordatura!" A female voice comes from the speakers. "[Thank you, Master.]"

*looks around* Huh. What is this place?

"[This is Haven Research Institute, doctor. We have some questions regarding Unit B. O. N. A. 04.]" Scordatura's deep, robotic voice replies.

Huh. OK then. *waits*

"[Firstly, how has magic infused with his code? Secondly, do you have any AI similar to him?]@

Dr_Kinasu

Well, the computer I created his code with was powered by magic instead of electricity. The magic ended up creating a almost physical vessel that the code could inhabit. Even as a scientist I don't understand it! And no, I have no AI similar to him.
