A brief discussion on bonds
In the 4th century BC, the Greek philosopher Plato argued that love directs the bonds of human society. In his Symposium, Eryximachus, one of the narrators in the dialog, states that love goes far beyond simple attraction to human beauty. He states that it occurs throughout the animal and plant kingdoms, as well as throughout the universe. Love directs everything that occurs, in the realm of the gods as well as that of humans (186a–b). Source: wikipedia
That's nice.
Yes yes, philosophy is very nice. Love is wonderful we all get it. Next.
I agree with Gamma, also Wikipedia isn't a scholarly source you know. I'm not entirely sure you should be citing it even somewhere this casual.
You claim bonds are worthless because people die and only cause suffering. But, bonds create incentive for you to strieve for, and better you as a human being. Besides, even though people die you always have new bonds to form and people to help you with acceptence. But, without bonds, you'll be at a social disadvantage and it may possibly hinder you when you need help but no one is willing to help you.
*Gammas_Archnemesis turns to Tatsuya* While it may not be scholary, it's not really worth it to try and spend a lot of effort on people I meet in a random street in Shibuya.
*Gamma sighs and makes a dramatic shrugging motion* There's hardly any incentive in relying on something so temporary. It will just leave you worse off once you're alone again. And if I get myself in a situation where I need help, then oughtn't I face the consequences of my poor decisions rather than rely on another to evade them? The ability to act as you want and willingness to accept the consequences of those actions are part of what makes us human.
No, you don't see, bonds aren't something solely to rely on. They are a form of guidance that tell us to interact with others, for our own common interest. You see, even when bonds between one friend disappear, there are always new bonds to make. For, as long as this planet still has life, bonds wi still exist. Even animals recognize that they cannot survive alone, and thus, they work together to achieve goals that thhey couldn't alone. That is what I think it means to be human. And, without a doubt in my mind, I believe that no man has ever lived happily without the influence of another living being.
You can easily work together without any forms of bonds. Its called business. Bonds are something annoyingly stable, they create obligations for both sides, but unstable enough to fall apart under the right pressure, making them ultimately unreliable. As for happiness, well, honestly happiness is overrated. There are other things in life worth living for. Happiness is nice and all, if you can get it. But its far from a worthy goal
Does business not use the same concept as bonds? It's all based on relationships, after all. Between that of the buyer and seller, employer and employee. It's no different. And, I find that bonds cannot easily be broken. Even when they are, there are always new humans to form bonds with. If you really try, you can always find more. It's not about being reliable, it's about being plentiful. All around you, are people who you can interact with. It's the same as food, or any resource. When searching for food, you can't rely on any one source, because food is -as bonds are- temporary. But, food is necessary to live. So, when you run out of food, you go out and get more, just like with bonds. If you can constantly produce more bonds, they are only as temporary as you. And, happiness is different things for everyone. Perhaps I should phrase it in ways that you might understand more, what is it that you strive most for in life?
