Java the Hutt: Rebrew of the Cup
<i>Evening has come, the sky lit up by the setting sun. Around now most people would be on their way home, bracing themselves to walk through the cold winter winds. Its not at all uncommon for these people to dip into a nearby building for a brief respite, perhaps find some nice conversation and a warm drink to take with them.
One such commonly visited building is a cafe located just along the city streets. On top of the small building is a sign featuring some kind of odd, alien slug pouring coffee down its throat. Inside, the cafe has a slight space theme, metallic grey chairs and tables in addition to whitewashes walls and laminated floors. The owner, a young, lavender-haired man, stands behind the counter, leaning against a nearby wall and waiting. The owner speaks to himself</i>
Been a while since I've opened shop. Probably the last time for a while too. *sigh* Still, its kinda what I signed up for buying the place
A frigid winter day in Inokashira
<i>With winter well underway the familiar park's trees have long since forgone their leaves. Its a chilly day, the kind that makes many people just want to curl up in bed and rest for a while. Though of course, life never works that way. You can see your breath upon the wind as you enter the park, the sky is a cloudy grey, yet not a speck of snow can be seen. The park's long pond has begun to freeze over, but the ice is not very thick yet. You can see some cracks in the ice, a bit of a warning as to its true nature.
Sitting on a bench near this park is a young, lavender-haired man. He doesn't seem to be dressed very appropriately, wearing a loose black jacket and athletic shirt alongside a pair of blue jeans, but he doesn't seem to mind the cold. Instead, he sighs and tosses something into the pond</i>
Quite a nice day out if I do say so myself. Part of why I've always loved winter. Could use a hint of snow, but I suppose I can't complain much
Java the Hutt: Brewing of the Coffee
<i>Its been a little while since this little cafe off the streets of Shibuya was opened. The title and sign featuring a large, sluglike creature drinking a cup of coffee just screams "reference" as do the well-laminated white floors and stars that seem to have been hand-painted on the ceiling. A young Lavender-haired man stands out front, searching his keys until he finally finds one to unlock the building. He steps inside, switches the sign from "closed" to "Open" and steps behind the counter to wait</i>
Java the Hutt: Phantom Beanace
<i>As the saying goes, another day another dollar. A young, Lavender-haired man stands outside the doorway to his miniscule cafe along the streets of Shibuya. The cafe would be almost unnoticable if it weren't for the... Unusual sign, which depicts a large, slug-like creature drinking a cup of their signature coffee. The young man fiddles with his keys for a moment before finding the correct one to open the store. He walks into the small, well-laminated place. Its floors and walls are white, with its furniture designed to give a smooth, futuristic feel. The man walks behind the counter and changes a sign from "closed" to "open"</i>
And so it begins
Java the Hutt: late night scene
<i> In spite of the sky’s daunting shadow, the city moves on, timelessly. Just as always, with so many people you’ll find the streets are about as packed at any time of night. Regardless, a small, unassuming cafe remains open for awhile longer, much to its owner’s regret. Outside of the cafe is a fairly simple sign, featuring a large, slug-like creature drinking coffee. Inside the cafe has a futuristic theme to it, with well-tiled floors, solid white walls, and smooth, slick tables and furniture. The floor seems rather well-laminated, perhaps too well, as it feels a little slick. Regardless, the Lavender-haired man inside yawns and busies himself by cleaning a few leftover mugs</i>
Java the Hut Cafe
[i] The streets of Shibuya are fairly quiet at this time of day. Most people have already gotten to where they’re needed, leading to a nice lull in traffic. Among the many businesses along this street is a single, old, worn-out cafe. The sign depicts a slug-like, alien creature pouring coffee down its throat, giving a satisfied thumbs-up. A Lavender-haired figure stands inside the place, dusting off the counters and cleaning it up before switching the sign to “openâ€. The cafe’s interior is vaguely space-themed. With well-laminated tile floors and stars painted on the walls. The Lavender-haired man sits near the counter, and waits*
You ever find it weird...
How there are all these multivitamins and toothpaste, health stuff of sorts, that use cartoon characters in an attempt to market them more for children, or as child appropriate. But the characters they use are almost always old, for example, the Flintstones. They might have been popular a while back, but I sure had never heard of them when I was growing up maybe it’s just me, but I don’t really get the idea there.
Masquerading Entity of Cursed Existence: I'm nowhere near as creative with titles
*Last time, on House Hauntings Z.*
Gamma: My leg!!!
Kotori: MMmmmm, I'm drinking grape juice
Himeno: Well, the noose was there.....
Flonne: BUTTERFLY!!!
*And now another group has gathered before the tree after hearing tale of a strange mist arising from the place. The mist is thin, as one might expect, but it leaves an ominous feeling in the group as some old, some new, look at the ominous tree. There's a bloody path leading up to a door that seems cracked open, and bodies in various states are scattered near the entrance*
OOC: Of course, any returning members will need to tell me what items they had, I'm not the best at keeping track of it. May be a little slower as the material's a little new to me.
Regardless, while its sort of a continuation, this thread is completely open, there's not much plot involved, the main thing is to have fun
What makes a setting compelling?
Most of my topics such as these have focused on the characters within a story, after all, as the main actors they are a large part of what makes a tale enjoyable. But this time, I’d like to take the spotlight away from the characters and focus on the world they partake in, the setting to our tale if you would.
Of course, as there are many types of stories, there are just as many settings and each one can bring its own charm. Of course, that makes this much, MUCH harder to pin down, as the settings can be easily and dramatically changed. For now, I’ll simply post a few of my cardinal rules, and you can expand upon the thoughts.
1. Consistency is everything. When writing a story, there can be all sorts of interesting and unique premises and twists, however, one thing I always find to be important is for the premise to remain consistent throughout the tale. They set down the general rules of the world in question, and run with it from there, using the characters and events to push the story further.
2. Limitations. As with characters, the world itself needs boundaries as well to help keep it interesting and allow for conflict. For example, one classic story is that of two countries fighting over limited resources, the limit here is what allows the story to take place. Of course, if you then turn this around late in the tale, you’ll get an unsatisfactory conclusion to what might have been a great tale.
As always, remember to share your thoughts below, I may not reply for a while as it’s time for me to return to the grind, but give it some thought, and if you have anything to restate or comment in another’s, go for it.
Digimon Links
After being made aware of its existence maybe three days ago, I’ve been playing Digimon Links quite a bit. Reading up on the co-op I learned that not only does it allow you to play with friends, it’s also a much more energy-efficient grinding method, and so, without further ado Iwould like to see who else is playing it and perhaps start up a bit of a group on-site. So, pretty simple, you can look at your profile, find the user code, and post it here so people can send you friend requests. Like this.
