Late Morning Consultations
The wind is gentle but strict, as if trying to coerce our hard-boiled detective to finally awaken from his deep slumber. However, the motherly wind does little to move Shotaro as he snoozes lazily in his office chair. His head resting on arms that were little more than a few inches away from his typewriter, which had finished its work the night prior. "It's only been a few days since our arrival into this, Nexus. However, Phillip and I have already made some memorable acquaintances." The first was a quiet gentleman, of a rather mysterious demeanor. Adorning himself with headphones as if to keep himself distanced, he was the holder of the most important keyword so far: Nexus." "The second new face was a young man with lavender hair and a curious aura about him; something cold yet warm. His name is Gamma, a rather nervous man when put on the spot, but a kind heart from what I've seen. He came to warn us of the rowdy neighbors that we'll be seeing from now on." The wind would pick up this time, and much like an angry mother, there was no avoiding it. Shooting upright and to attention at the sudden roar of wind, Shotaro looks around the room as his heart rate begins to return to resting. "Eh? What time is it?" With a quick glance at his watch, his eyes go wide. He quickly runs over to a door covered in hats and begins rapping on it. "OI! PHILLIP! It's noon, what are you still doing in there!?" And so starts another day at the Narumi Detective Agency.
From behind the door comes a familiar voice, and a familiar metallic clanking. "Later, Shotaro, I'm in the middle of important work!" The clanking continues, but it seems to be a very repetitive noise. Soon the clanking stops.
Not wanting to open the door for fear someone sees it, he just leans against the wall and listens to the clanking. "Important work, he says. Look, whatever it is you're doing it's making a racket. What rabbit hole have you fallen down this time, Phillip?" The sudden stop of metallic clanging is followed by an impatient sigh from Shotaro. "Are you finished now?"
The clanging starts up again, still as rhythmic as the last time. "Later, Shotaro, I'm in the middle of important work!" Once again, the clanking falls silent.
Nervously looking to the office door, he remains still against the wall. "Again?! You better not be playing with the bike! I had it tuned up just fine!" Another impatient sigh escapes his lips and he begins tapping his foot the moment it goes silent.
Once more, the sound of metal clanging begins, it keeps the same tempo it had the last couple of times. "Later, Shotaro, I'm in the middle of important work!" As if on cue, the clanging stops again.
That's the last straw. Shotaro was done being so cautious, who needs that anyway? Let's throw caution to the wind! Looking once more to the office door, he swallows hard and turns back to the door covered in hats. "AH, MOU!" With that declaration of defeat, or possibly victory, he barges into the room beyond the door covered in hats. "Phillip, how are we gonna keep this room secret if you're making all that noise?"
As soon as Shotaro bursts through the door, he is met with two sights. Phillip asleep on the floor, and a mechanical frog hopping up and down. The frog begins to hop again. "Later, Shotaro, I'm in the middle of important work!" The sound came not from Phillip, but the frog. "Later, Shotaro, I'm in the middle of important work!"
He blinks a few times. "Eh?" And then it hits him. "Frog Pod...was playing on...wow...I am so glad he's asleep." Breathing a sigh of relief, Shotaro makes his way across the catwalk and over to the small robot. Shotaro bends down and snatches it, quickly pulling out a small USB from its back. Looking over at his sleeping partner, he couldn't help but smile. "There was a time when I thought I'd never get to see you like this ever again. Geez, the Boss sure knows how to give challenging assignments." His smile fades however. "But right now isn't the time to be reminiscing. SO WAKE UP!"
Phillip groggily stands up, rubbing his eyes as he does so. "Nnng.. Later, Shotaro, I'm yawn in the middle of important work..." Phillip brushes past Shotaro, and goes to sit on the couch.
Placing the frog and the USB on a workbench, he walks over to Phillip with a stern expression. "Dare I ask what caused you to exhaust yourself and force you to sleep on the floor?" He stretches his arms before moving to lean against the wall. "I haven't seen you this tired in some time."
Phillip points to the oar, which he left by the door. "I told you, rowing takes a lot of effort! I did manage to get a good grasp on why people do it though, I even got to see a waterside play!"
Shotaro's head drops as he holds his hat in place. "Rowing is a team sport, but you neglected to invite your own partner?" He takes off his hat and holds it to his heart. "Oh! How you wound me so, Phillip!" With a soft laugh, he'd put the hat back atop his head and grin at his partner. "How was it? See anything of note on your trip? Other than the play of course."
He shrugs, but seems to jump as he recalls another detail of his journey. "Not much, but one of the actors looked like a bland Kamen Rider!"
Shotaro lets out quite a laugh at his partner's statement. "Well, it's hard to beat a stylish and hard-boiled Rider like us!" His interest is highly piqued though. "So what was this Rider looking fellow like? Any odd powers? He didn't seem the type to mess with GaiaMemories right?"
Phillip takes a moment to think on what he saw. "It didn't even look like he had a belt... Maybe it just looked like a Kamen Rider."
Shotaro crosses his arms and ponders for a moment before speaking. "Well, if it was a Rider then that means this place had someone to protect it before we got here! So that's a plus! However, if there's Riders..." His expression darkens as he lowers the brim of his hat. "...what if that means the corresponding villains were also dragged in? Now I don't have a lick of evidence to support that claim. I just feel it, you know?"
Phillip sparks to being fully awake. "Hey, Shotaro. We should go investigate that place I found yesterday! Here!" Phillip tosses the oar to Shotaro. "We'll need to get a move on if we want to see them again. I'll stay back and do some look-ups!"
Catching the oar with anything but grace, he'd nod to his partner. "Sure thing Phillip! Let's do this thing! I'll get a head start, so just call me with the boat's location!" With a fire in his eyes, Shotaro leaves the office in a hurry and runs to wherever the canoe is.
