Boss Reviews Sonic Forces
hoo boy..... Sonic Forces looked promising but strange, and redundant to boot. the custom character thing had people going and shitposting, making jokes, hating the decision and some people liking it. but this is about the game, and....whew.... the story is....indeed existant. its very stereotypical but otherwise not awful, just kinda...there. sonic runs back to his friends resistance base in the city after hearing that eggman launched a full scale attack, and upon returning from his jaunt through green hill sonic bists some robots and eggmans latest edgeman is revealed, Infinite the Jackal. (yes, he is a jackal, thats cannon) who, has some very formidible abilities and easily defeats sonic, knocking him out and capturing him. 6 months pass with nearly the whole planet taken over by eggman, and the resistance having only a small percentage of operatives. the officers of this resistance (silver, espio, vector and charmy, and amy for some reason) discuss the fact that sonics gone and unless they pull off something big, the war is over. this is where knuckles come in and introduces your character, someone who knuckles just grabbed off the street, and via flashback is revealed to have encountered infinite while fighting with a local militia, infinite utters an ungodly creepy line and offers your character a choice. run away and scream or stay and die. seeing as your character is alive now you know what was chosen, and through this event, everyone figures out from spies i guess that sonic has been tortured on the death egg for six months, your character is sent to grab a ship from the chemical plant spaceport and goes to rescue the blue blur.
Cont. after this, the game continues with various assault efforts from the resistance and fights with the returning villains....2 of the 4. you only fight zavok really early in the game (stage 4) and then metal sonic later on. shadow is beaten by the real shadow who explains that these are virtual reality clones and dont actually exist but are indeed as powerful as the real deal. these clones were made by infinite, who was imbued with reality bending powers by a gem called the phantom ruby, and as such can create illusions that are so real the body reacts to the pain they inflict, pseudo science that kinda makes sense. eggman states to a rogue tails who has started building and wandering around after sonic "dies" that the resistance has 3 days to either give up or stop him, or he'll enact his ultimate plan. oh yeah, guess i should talk about tails. hes just been running around for the past few months and classic sonic shows up to save him, he then travels with classic sonic hoping to find things out on his own. thats really all there is to it. anyways the team mounts a large scale assault on metropolis to stop eggman, they make a dent in his forces but are outdone by infinites full power and are forced to retreat, after figuring out how infinites power works, everyone teams up to go kick his ass. after surrounding eggmans base and busting up a few things, infinite conjures an army of clones to fight the resistancem and when they think its all done as your character and sonic blow more shit up, eggman reveals his ultimate plan. BLOW UP THE RESISTANCE WITH THE FUCKING SUN
of course, its not a real sun, just an illusion, but itll still kill them all the same. all hope seems lost, and then your character runs off with a phantom ruby prototype that eggman just left behind one time, (yeh the phantom ruby was created somehow. they never go into it, it just is) and your character sets off to counter the illusion and dispel it. after doing so and having a final battle with infinite, eggman reveals he has one more trick up his sleeve, a robot that is unceremoniously called "the death egg robot" and requires classic sonic, modern sonic, and your character to team up, break his defenses, and destroy the phantom ruby inside. after doing so, its peace on mobius as classic sonic returns to his own dimension and evryone gets along great, sonic runs off to do....something and your character grapple hooks into the sunset.
now lets talk about the meat of this game, gameplay, three characters, three styles Modern Sonic: ever played generations? this is the same thing. controls fine but when slowing down its a little janky, but not at all awful. his stages are nice and colorful, backgrounds are good and the music is okay. nothing too bad. Classic Sonic: classic sonic has no need to be here, and it shows. hes kinda slow and his jump is gimped, the drop dash is the only way youll get any speed and his stages are boring as all hell, uninteresting, bland, a pain. the music in his stages hurt my ears actually Original the Character: its obvious this is where the most effort was put in, your character can do a multitude of things with their grappling hook, and the wispons, guns that are modeled after a corresponding wisp, and allow you to do cool stuff. my personal favorites are void, asteroid, and lightning. your customization choices in terms of clothing are pretty diverse, wish you could pick your own colors but in all honesty, doesnt really matter cuz they all look good. the stages for your character are diverse, graphically stunning and really cool, the music is pretty kickass too, being the character that gets vocal tracks as stage themes and fun as hell desigm. all in all, forces is an okay game, mania is a better purchase but....i still like this game. its not great but by no means is it awful. i recommend this as a game that you should wait for a price drop for, as well as when the eventual dlc comes out. but i still say its worth a look at. 6/10
oh and for the backstory of infinite..... shadow kicked his ass and called him a pussy so infinite became edgier than him
I just skimmed through this and I want to make a counter area but what about the boss fights? The game play the stages are you gonna go into those or episode shadow?
I just skimmed through this and I want to make a counter area but what about the boss fights? The game play the stages are you gonna go into those or episode shadow? i glossed over 2 of those. i didnt mention the boss fights because....theres barely anything to mention. you wait for their weakpoint to appear and beat em up.
