Make a Wish: Heart's Reflection
[i]The city air would be cool as always as the night overtakes the day. The city's lights would begin flashing and glaring as the nightlife once again began. The streets were mostly empty even in the market district as most would have already reached their destination for tonight. Within the shopping district though something strange would open up. A alleyway that didn't exist before within one of the darker and more isolated parts of the district. It was only those with a strong desire in their heart that could see this place and at the end of this alley would be a fortune teller covered in thick wrappings. Her face was not visible and her hands were covered with long sleeves. Through the veil covering her body though a set of red glowing eyes could vaguely be seen. She was sitting behind a stand of sorts with a variety of trinkets often associated with fortune telling including a set of tarot cards faced down. A sign would also be featured as part of the stand spelling out the phrase: "Your Greatest Desires for Your Greatest Price."
star walks onto the scene and looks at the sign. Excuse me, but could i get a little clarification on this sign. Specifically the "greatest price" bit? If you mean my soul, then i think I'm just going to leave.
Luard walks down the streets, another slow day, little progress if any. It truly seemed to be out of reach, at least for now. Luard hardly even noticed where he was going, yet here he was, staring down one of the shadiest alleys he had ever seen. Still, he follows down it, little else to do truthfully. Coming across Star and the fortune teller, Luard grins and approaches the pair Isn't it obvious? The price is something as valuable as the desire. That is how the world works after all, everything has a cost associated with it. For one cannot expect to get something from nothing.
The fortune teller would look up upon Luard approaching to answer the question for her. Behind the veil, she would smile as if pleased by the understanding Luard showed. She would speak in a soft and sweet tone but there was a hint of foreboding in her voice. "Yes, a desire demands a certain amount of commitment to go through with it. If one does not possess the will or strength to make a sacrifice then their wish cannot be granted. In some ways, I imagine that a wish simply being granted wouldn't be at all a valuable experience for the individual in question. Now, I ask you who have come here, is there something that you desire?"
Well, if that's the case then I'm better off working for my powers back. Hmm...anything else...huh. I...don't actually have any desires besides getting my power back. Still, i don't suppose a nudge in the right direction is cheating? What would the price be for the nudge, a lucky charm? It's not like I'm asking for the cheat codes of the universe here.
Something Luard desires.... A chance perhaps, regardless of the cost. After all, the cost is always even in value, whereas the object of his desire is far more valuable to him than to anything else. Thus, from a logical standpoint, the answer is obvious. Yet, were he to simply wish the problem away, what are the chances he wouldn't simply find another? Leaving Luard in the same situation as he is now, save perhaps with a few fewer years on him. Instead, Luard grins, calmly stepping back I do trust its obvious, the only real desire worth having. Not to accomplish what I seek, for then I would merely find another goal. No, rather I must become the kind of person who can accomplish anything I seek. Especially the impossible. Tell me, can you do something as simple as that? Luard grins, casting a sideways glance at Star Do you truly have no grander design than a hint? If you're going to be paying, may as well use your resources wisely, rather than hoarding all one can.
Well, it's not like i have much to hoard. My house blew up, and besides, I'd rather improve myself the hard way. If i could solve any problem, then i would be unstoppable. But what's to say that that's a good life to live, one without worries of failure? I'd rather fail and try again than to never fail at all.
The woman would seem to take on a more serious expression under the veil. She would bring a small dark colored orb out and place it on the table. It would glow with an ominous light yet within the orb all of what one desire could be seen. "What you seek is within this orb. All one must do is accept the energy within this orb and it shall manifest into a method of achieving their desire. I do not have the ability to grant a desire right away but more to give someone a means to do so. That is why your wish will only be granted if you have the will for it to be so."
I'm not actually referring to material wealth here. Its more... Metaphorical for spending your life doing something rather than wasting away, but that's beside the point. Luard sighs and shakes his head, before stepping towards the orb. He can already tell the energy is plentiful, though what exact form it would take is beyond him. Regardless, the primary cost is "the will for it to be so?" If that refers to ambition, Luard knows he has plenty to spare. Very well then. My will is easily as strong as iron, perhaps even more so. Of this chance. Luard thrusts his left hand to make contact with the orb, taking a deep breath as he does so I shall humbly partake
Well then, I'll do it. No hesitation, for i am ready to start on my long journey for my power. All i need is a little help seeing the first of many steps. Star places her right hand on the orb, ready to learn what she would have to do.
(Suddenly, a 7'3 snake centipede hybrid comes from the ground, right by the fortune teller's place) .....so, where am i- (He suddenly stares at the fortune tellers place...and kind of slithers backwards) ...this place....thissss fucking place that ruined my FUCKING LIFE!
The energy from within the orb would begin to spread and expand before flowing out from the orb and trying to wrap around all who made contact with it. It would leave them individually within a black void as the energy tried to work its way into their bodies. At this point, they could either choose to accept it or reject it. "Now, is the time for your desires to be made manifest. You shall gain the power to achieve your wishes if you accept this gift and if you reject it then your desire will never come true. Speak your desire clearly for the energy to take in and it shall take the proper form for you to accomplish your goals."
My desire is to learn the first step i must take in order to reclaim my power as goddess of insanity and general chaos. star lets the energy flow into her, wishing for her desire to come true.
Luard closes his eyes for a moment, sometimes one does not wish to know exactly what form their desire may take. It is simple enough for him to speak as Luard accepts the energy To be capable of accomplishing the impossible, no matter what the cost.
(edited by Luard)
(Rep just watches. And sighs) ....well, another persons life...ruined....
The energy around Star would take the shape of a small purple ball that would grow a set of wings and eyes. It would stare towards her before beginning to speak telepathically. Strange Ball: "Hello, I am your guide from here forth. I shall guide you towards the power you seek. Think of me as a helper. Will it be okay for me to accompany you?" Luard, on the other hand, would have the power manifest within himself. He would feel something bond with his soul as an extension of his being. The power would feel as though it had a need to consume but also as if it could change the nature of reality itself with enough motive. A draconic entity would appear in his head. It's eyes glowing a vicious violet as if waiting for him to be the one to say a specific set of words. Finally, the two would be back where they were before with the fortune teller gone from the site. The stand would simply be left abandoned with all the trinkets still on it.
Huh...i didn't expect this...well, whatever. A guide for a single step is what i wanted, so who am i to complain if i get help with more than one. Sure, uhh...actually, do you have a name? I don't want to be rude and just call you "flying purple ball" all the time. Also, hey Rep! What are you talking about, i couldn't hear you over the strange things that just happened.
Luard takes a deep breath as the energy flows into him. A strange... Hunger is it? Perhaps that is the cost. Perhaps not. Only way to be certain is to attempt to use it. Glancing around, it occurs to Luard that the alley may not be large enough, yet in some ways he simply doesn't care. Luard feels a phrase, a few words come to him as he tries to bring out the beast Rend the Earth, Fafnir.
(He looks over at star, looking very worried) ....mate, you don't want to do this....bad thingsss will happen.....the trust me on this....
(edited by Reperzel)
*It was then, only with the fortune teller gone, that Marie wandered up to the stand.* Huh? What a weird stand. It feels almost... familiar.
Well, my house is destroyed, i don't have much money, my powers are mostly gone, and i have absolutely no idea what to do. But hey, I'm facing things with a smile. Besides, i only need a guide for my first step to getting my power back. If that's going to end painfully, then hey, that's what happens. I can always just choose not to listen and do things myself after the first step, so it's no skin off my bones.
The strange flying ball would float around Star for a moment before looking back to her. Dolos: "You may call me Dolos. I'm here to help you." What Luard would summon forth would be a dragon with pitch black scales. between its joints, across its spine, and within its mouth and eyes a violet glow would emanate. Its claws would take on a golden color however as if dipped in molten gold and left to harden over time. It would lunge forth in the general direction Luard directed it striking at the ground and breaking the earth itself and creating a crater around 5 feet wide with a simple strike.
Sigh....look, mate, ya may not know this...but shessss the devil, like, the, and I've made a deal with -er to, to become normal.....now....look at me.....ya can never trust a devil, but, I was caught up in my own needssss. That I never saw, and I don't want that to happen to you...
(edited by Reperzel)
*The suddenly lunching dragon almost shakes Marie off her feet, as she spins to look at Luard.* What the hell is that!? Some kind of Persona!? *She then spins to look at Reperzel.* And what do you mean she's the devil? Do you mean to say some goddess is handing out Personas again?
Hey, rule number two to screwing with stuff beyond comprehension is always keeping your end of the bargin. And hey, what's the worse that could happen? I'm immortal, and a goddess at that! Trust me, i know exactly what I'm doing. After all, you can't trick another devil you know. Not that i am one or anything, but let's just say I've been through this kinda thing once before. Anyways, Dolos, point me in the direction to the first step.
(He twist his head a full 360 to Mariko) ....oh yeah, "reservesed personas", that's how I got mine to, omukade his name...but my god is it a curse....a very...very.....horrible curse
Reversed Personas, huh? Great, now I'll have to find Yu and tell him about this. Stupid divine beings, why can't they be more like me and just not hand out Personas to cause chaos? *Marie sighs loudly, before looking over what was all left behind on the "fortune teller's" stand.*
Hey, don't knock it till you try it. The chaos thing i mean, not the persona thing. What can i say, I'm the goddess of insanity and general chaos. It's my job to cause chaos, and i get stronger with said chaos. Still, definitely need a better way to get power.
Technically I already tried it. Though it wasn't actually me-me, but the me before I split apart. Look, it's complicated, okay. All I know is protecting humans is the right choice to make, and that the evil deity always loses. Well, that and there's people out there who want me to stay around.
....well, anywayssss......just.....don't be a moron like me and say yes to every deal
I hear ya. I used to run a business selling protection to normal citizens so they don't ge t caught up in the crazy and painful things that occasionally happen around here. It run under like a week ago. Sure, i do have to cause chaos at times to keep my title, but hey, that doesn't mean it can't be fun as well. I guess I'm just...chaotic good? And yeah, i know what I'm doing Rep. Trust me, I only deal when i have to.
(edited by Starwaddle)
(He digs his tail into ground, and sighs) ....yeah, ya right....I'm sorry...just....I hope I know what ya doing..
I do, and i also get why you care. Don't worry, whatever happens, I'm sure i find a way to get out of. And if i don't...meh. It's not like existing is a big thing. The multiverse is a big place, and there's more than one multiverse...or at least, that's what i like to think. Star suddenly disappears in a puff of smoke.
(As star dissapers, and he simply laughs to himself) ...hehe....god hope she's right, (He says as he digs his tail deeper in the ground, and spins around allowing him to drill underground)
Maybe it isn't a big thing. But to my friends it was big enough that they risked their lives to stop me throwing myself away. *But Star had already left, so Marie does, too.*
A man with a staff in a trenchcoat wanders into the alleyway... Something about the place puts him on edge, like there's been some kinda crap going on here not too long ago and he missed it. A case file waiting for a place to happen, but here he is a bit too late... Either way, the man would begin looking around, both for anyone left here, and a clue as to what exactly this stand was dealing in.
(Suddenly, the 7'3 snake centipede hybrid comes back from the ground, this time, behind harry) ...ayyyy
(edited by Reperzel)
The man whirls around to his back in a blur, he'd be pointing his staff out toward Rep and darting backward with inhuman speed. "ARCT- The air would begin to cool, bits of ice starting to take shape on Harry's staff before he sighs upon noticing that it's just the weird snake thing he's seen around before. He'd look at the thing with a blank stare for a moment, before shrugging it off and simply moving on. "Well, I'm going to guess our booth person isn't you right? Doesn't really look like your size, and you don't seem the type to run something with wish-granting either... Got any clue who was at this? I'm professionally curious about anyone who claims to make wishes come true."
(He'd jump back in fear from the attack, but kind of clams down when he stops) ......well then... ...anyways....ya wanna know bout the "fortune teller"?, mate, I know a lot bout her...first of all, she's not a teller, she a devil, like, the devil, she's the reason why my lifessss so fucked up, she ruined it, how it goes is that she give you any wish you want....for a price...or a little gift, for me?, I wanted to become human again, course, she did, but, she also gave me a " reversed persona", and its name is omukade...and then I got turned back into a snakipede because of her....you can never trust the god of death...well, I didn't know...sooo, but still, don't make any deals with her....alright?
"A god will be a god, no matter their subjects. Death is not to blame. Death is honest. And Death... is here with you, always." A sudden gust of wind can be felt behind Harry and Rep, and in a moment a young man stands behind them, a dark hood covering the majority of his face, and a long torn cape flowing in the wind. "Zane Thomas Matthew, and Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, good evening. I do hope the day fairs you both well."
(edited by Disaides)
God of death? Not Hades... And that bit about not trusting one is off, to say the least. But this whole thing, well calling her the devil is also unlikely at best since this death god is surely not Lucifer, but it is useful info. "Got a name for her? I wasn't planning to cut deals with any more supernatural powers from the start, though the warning is noted. But... I should look into this crap, it's kinda my job to deal with things that go bump in the night and the best place to start is research. So first thing's first, I need a name for this death goddess of ours." Gotta start somewhere, but he doesn't want to look at every death goddess who exists. Even narrowing it to Asia wouldn't help that much, and given the nature of this "Nexus" he can't be sure it'd even be an Asian death goddess. The man would then turn toward the cloaked figure, wonderful some asshole is spreading his full name around now. Warlock? God? Demon? Who knows, but he's likely a problem with some get up like this. Harry would respond to the man in a sarcastic drawl. "Yes of course, any day where strange cloaked people appear before me from nowhere is always a great one. In fact, I've been seriously low on meetings like this lately ya know? Really livens the mood for me."
(edited by Harry-Dresden)
(He turns his head a full 360 at the sudden man) ...its Mayhew...and second....I've "died" many times...and I'm still alive...soooooo... ...also, her name?, its....something-no-okami...
(edited by Reperzel)
"Yes, Zane Thomas Mayhew. You have met with death many times, I am aware. Yet, this is your first encounter with the true Death. I come here with a warning. The soul of Zane Thomas Mayhew is soon to be within the hands of Death. You, among countless others, are subject to the unlawful escape of death. While others have simply evaded it, you have fully bypassed it on more than one occasion. Once again, it comes time for Death to make an attempt at your being." He turns to Dresden, the deep red eyes beneath his hood staring deep into him. "I understand my appearance brings chaos among mankind. Death is rarely pleasing to encounter. However, know that my business here does not lie with you, Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, and calm yourself."
(Immideintly, when he hears the sudden man, he burst out with laughter, falling to the ground) OHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, OHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... OHHHHahaha...hehe...ohhhh, god that made my day (He jumps back up with tears, as he wipes them off) ...ok, lemme get this straight, you...another god of death...is gonna take my soul...even though you know I'll be back...you, from all the ppl, should know, I just give death the middle finger, and so what, ya just another god of death who thinks they can get me...well, guess what...all then other gods of death have failed, and so will you!
Bypassed death... That's one hell of a thing to do, even Harry coming back from the dead wasn't exactly something he could do many times. Hell, it wasn't exactly something he chose to do either. Either way, he's not exactly sure if he should step between these two... And oh hey, eyes with no Soulgaze. "You aren't exactly the first Death God I've run across, and hey Hades was actually a pretty pleasant guy to chat with ya know? But uh mind doing me a favor and just skipping those middle names from here on? I don't give em out for a reason, enemies and all that." There's a notably calm tone in his voice at this point as if he's simply not even phased by meeting this being... Even if the guy is what he claims to be, Harry's not exactly too worried. If this person is a Death God, chances are he wouldn't lie about not having business with someone. "Anyway, I'll just keep out of your way here. Interfering with death gods is bad for business, and I can't exactly say I'm overly invested in the snake-centipede thingy either..." His pride is astounding, even if he really can't die this guy could at least bother to pretend to take such a being seriously. Honestly, he's bringing whatever happens on all by himself at this point.
"Please, do not call me a god of death. I am simply Death, the taker of souls. Perhaps the name 'Grim Reaper' would be more appropriate. But yes, I am here to remove your soul from this realm." The young man extends his arms out, and in a burst of blue flame, a scythe appears in his hand. "In approximately four days, Death will come to your soul. Should you will it, we may duel for your soul any time prior to that date, but no later. Should you manage to defeat me, I shall withdraw, and you will continue to live on as you have been. Please consider your options. As for you, Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, I apologize, but it simply my creed to honor the full names of those who I speak with. I mean you no ill will."
A- (He immediately burst out into laughter once more of what this "grim reaper" says) OH PFFFFFFFHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA,OHOHOHOHO....OHHHH..ohh god...you..you are funny ....also, why four days?, why not get this useless fight over with mate?
Creed... He's bound by his nature then? The same way a Fae is bound by theirs perhaps. Hmm, this one is something to watch out for to be sure, but he's not too worried over something like this guy running around causing random issues. "Hmm, a title then? If it'd be fine you could also call me... Not, Winter Knight. that's not one I'm fond of, Warden of Demonreach? If not though, well that's understandable honestly, and I doubt you'll see me enough for it to be a major issue anyway." Harry can't help sighing at Rep's laughter, he makes a point of not assuming anyone is truly harmless. And someone who can seemingly teleport calling himself the damn Grim Reaper is a poor choice to underestimate in Harry's mind. "I was vaguely considering offering you some advice pal, but honestly at this point, you're asking to get slaughtered here."
(He once again wipes the tears off, and looks at harry) Mate, I've died to many damn times to count, and I'm still alive, so, even if is shot does happen to me, I'll still come back!, haha haha!
"No title could ever do a given name justice, Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. I apologize, but I must decline to your inclination to avoid the full extent of your given name." The man grips his scythe with both hands, now staring at Rep, ready to fight. "If that is what you wish, very well. My conditions for this duel are as follows:
One, should your flesh be struck by the blade of my scythe, your soul is forfeit. Two, should you become unable to fight, your soul is forfeit. Three, should you become unwilling to fight, you soul is forfeit.
If these conditions are acceptable to you, please, begin this match. As this is a duel regarding your soul, I see little reason for Death to make it's strike first."
(edited by Disaides)
((He chuckles to himself, and simply stares back at the grim reaper) ....alright then. (With that, he digs his tail underground, and spins a bit, allowing him to drills underground) TRY TA FIND ME THEN MATE!
(edited by Reperzel)
After Rep drills into the ground, the man zips over to the hole in which he drilled into and stands over it. "I do hope this isn't the best you can do." Opening up his left hand towards Rep's entrance, a stream of bright orange flames travel from his hand down into the hole.
(edited by Disaides)
(Sense its pretty much impossible to see backwards when he's drilling, all he do is hear the flames, and has a idea. He let's the flame case him for a little bit, and then, thanks to the other holes he made, he is able to drill right behind the grim reaper, and drill upwards, from the ground to midair, and he drills back underground, below the grim reaper, so the orange flame hit the reaper while it chases rep)
(edited by Reperzel)
Spinning his scythe at the flames now bursting out of the ground behind himself, the spray out away from him before dispersing. "Albeit a tad fruitless, a clever move. Perhaps flames weren't the best of options after all." Shifting his grip on the scythe and using both hands, he brings it back behind his head before slamming the bladeless end of the head into the ground with heavy force, causing the ground in the area to crumble. The crumbling grow larger as more time passes due to the tunnels created by Rep, eventually finding their way to his location while drilling. "Death has you in it's gaze once more..."
(As he drills close to the ground, he feels the heavy slam, and years the cruble of rocks and dirt, and decides to drill deep underground, and then, rise up, and drill straight umaards into the air, causing a burst of dirt everywhere to. As he lands perfectly in his flat, snake like part) ....well, guess ya found me, but ya still haven't beat me yet! (He says as he goes into a fighting position. Where he puts one side of his claws onto the other side of his body, and same with the other side)
(edited by Reperzel)
"Very well, let us continue." Spinning his scythe, he moves it over to just his left hand and slams it to the ground. In his right, he conjures multiple balls of energy, which he throws in Rep's direction in a medium-spread fan shape, before dashing off right behind them, readying his scythe for a wide slash at Rep's torso, attempting to catch him off guard with the balls of energy.
(The slam from the scythe may shake him a little bit, and not enough, allowing his he twist his neck and back, to turn enough, so that he can doughe out of the, then, seeing the reaper behind of him, he has a idea) HAS A TATSE OF YA OWN ATTACK! (he says as he back flips perfectly behind him to stab all of his claws onto his back, keeping him in place so that the orbs hit the reaper)
OOC: Could you please explain to me what exactly you just did? I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding.
basicly, a doghed ya orbs, by funding my head back, a lot, noticing you, backing flips behind ya, implaling you with my claws, so you can hit by the orbs
OOC: I did not go behind Rep, only behind the orbs that were coming towards Rep. They would hit Rep before I reached him, although if he dodged the orbs he probably dodged the scythe slash. However I believe I can still make this work. Getting impaled by Rep's claws, the young man smirks. He immediately grabs Rep's right hand with his left, keeping it in place while he brings his scythe up to Rep's throat with his right. "I believe this duel is over. Do you submit, Zane Thomas Mayhew?"
(He keeps his head high up, and quietly hisses at the reaper, and sneakly digs a small amount of his tail under ground) .....no (He says, as in a flash, he's underground once more, and this time, way more faster, and if he just dissapered) ...SSSSEE YA SUCKER
"Not so fast! Running from this fight means your demise, Zane Thomas Mayhew!" The man keeps his grip firmly on Rep's right hand, now traveling with him as he tunnels underground. He once again brings his scythe back, and smashes the blade into the wall of the tunnel, attempting to halt both of them while underground.
OH GOD DAMMIT! (he slams himself and the reaper many times into the wall, stopping him from doing his slam)
The man uses his shoulders to take the blows, and while he fumbled with his scythe before, he now readies it to once again go around Rep's neck. "Death is tireless, Zane Thomas Mayhew. You're going to wear yourself out long before you toss me away. If you wish to keep hold of your soul, I suggest you find another strategy."
HEHE, HOW BOUT THIS! (he then drills deeper underground, and deeper, and deeper, untill it feels like ya skin is literally burnt off, but not for rep) TRY HAVING TO SURVIVE THE EARTHS CORE!
Sighing, the man brings his scythe around Rep's neck. "I'm not affected very heavily by this either, Zane Thomas Mayhew. Perhaps it's time I end this!" Pulling the weapon down through Rep's neck, he can feel his energy being drained as immeasurable pain courses through him. A second later, Rep feels totally normal again, and the young man now holds a shimmering green wisp in his hand. "You are now soulless, Reperzel. Congratulations. You will continue to live, for now, but you shan't be the same. Over time, your mind will vanish, before you become nothing but a husk of your former self, reacting purely on human and snakepede instinct. You may as well be dead. I will now bid you adeu, Reperzel." The wisp of Rep's soul disappears at the snap of his fingers, as does his scythe, and his cape turns into a pair of deep black wings. He looks up out of the cave, and flies off into the night.
