Mikage Sun Mall
It was a bright and sunny day, with WAS bring the key word. The heat from the past few hours can still be felt in the dimming sunlight. The sky is colored a nice, vibrant hue of purple and orange as the sun itself heads over the horizon. As the day ships starting to close down, with the night just beginning, many of the people here at the moment seem to have come for a scenic view of the sunset. Among them, a tall, dark cloaked man looks up at the sky, waiting for perhaps a few brief moments
A young man soon walks over, his hands resting on the hilts of the two swords strapped to his sides. "Now, let's get some peace and quiet before they come back..." He's only talking to himself, of course, but after his recent traumatic experielnce, he's gotten used to doing that.
A man with a silver earring walks into the view, enjoying the scene of the mall, "Ah, the Mikage Sun Mall...I missed this place." He said to himself, "Especially that time when we met at the Peace Diner after THAT incident..." He said to himself as he looked at the Peace Diner which was one of the buildings in there. "That brings back some of the memories."
OOC: ngl, I expected to wait at least an hour IC: As the sun sets, a few of the spectating couples prepare to leave, having already done most of their shopping, times like this are nearly as quiet as the mall might get. The young, dark cloaked man takes note of the few remaining, the guy with glasses from GYM, and another person around his age who had investigated his lab. Though ultimately neither of them are of particular concern. The man takes a few steps out towards the central fountain, and kneels, hand waving as though trying to inscribe something into the stone
A figure wearing a gray coat with the hood up over his head would attempt to keep a distance to anyone else. It seemed rather than coming for the sunset they had just been wandering aimlessly through the mall as if searching for something. Whatever it was they had been looking for though, it's clear they never found it as the mall was already starting to close for the day. With a sigh they'd continue walking down the quickly emptying halls with slight reminiscence in their eyes. It was as if they were already longing for the crowds from before. Less people was always nice but the crowds were easier to hide in. "Can you hear me? Do you remember why we're here? I feel like I knew at one point but now it's just a blur..." He didn't seem to be speaking outloud but rather muttering to himself as if there was someone near him who could hear. The truth was there were a couple other entities that could hear his words and would be silently responding to him.
Noticing the cloaked man go to the fountain, the teenager stops to stare for a moment. "Well, that's not ominous at all." He would start walking towards him, securing the bandages on his hands before doing so. While he walks, he mumbles to himself, mostly about names, guns and colors.
Eito walks just behind Luard, getting a good look over his shoulder as he does so. On the lower side of the fountain are several faintly glowing runes, some indecipherable writing. After the man is done tracing with his finger, the tunes would fade into the stone, leading him to stand up You’re the one with multiple souls, correct? Hardly expected you to watch the sunset. There’s another man around muttering something, it almost seems like they don’t want to be seen, perhaps they have some business here as well? It would be rude to interrupt them, yet he feels as though there is something more to them, perhaps something curious. Worth scanning for later if nothing else
Eito raises an eyebrow and takes a closer look at the runes. "Well, when most of your day is comprised by stabbing yourself just to stay as yourself, a little sunset gets a lot prettier." He shrugs, not really knowing what to say other than that this whole situation looked pretty cult-y to him, but decided not to comment on that fact. "So, what are you doing out here?"
The runes vaguely resemble something Nordic, and almost seem to be drawing a line together, though it only points around and around the fountain, making it ultimately meaningless. As for Luard, he steps aside and asks Tell me, what do you think I might be doing? If nothing else it provides me with some information on what you think of me and for example, your paranoia. around this point the runes would fade completely, being entirely untraceable within the stone round of the fountain
Quintus would continue walking while muttering to himself slightly. "Been a while since he's said anything. Maybe soon we'll get a chance to test out your powers too... A replacement? I know you're joking but from what I understand there's too much of a difference." Finally, he'd stop muttering as the fountain comes into his view. Most people seemed pretty average to him but the individual in the red coat he had seen before in the tournament and the figure in black certainly drew his suspicion. Quintus wouldn't get too close but he'd begin to observe the pair by the fountain. Whoever they were they could either prove to be valuable allies or enemies to him later on.
"My bet's on weird magic. Probably to be able to see whatever is going on around here." Adjusting the bandages on his hands again, he stops to look at the other man. "And what's that guy doing, anyways?" Fair warning, I may be overtaken by sleep soon.
(edited by Eito)
Technically speaking, you’re not wrong. It’s acting as a focal point through which I can channel energy from a distance, which can be used for observation and is mandatory when seeking to affect a wide area. And I cannot deny my magic is different from yours Of course, Luard would notice the cloaked man watching him, but it’s not as though Luard has anything to hide, so he simply shrugs and shakes his head If I were to guess he suspects me of being a criminal and is watching me carefully for a story to tell. He wouldn’t be the first
OOC: and sleep is fine, this is intended as a kind of casual anyways. As casual as mister “definitely not evil” gets anyways Getting the editing error again so extra post we get
"Hey, if it isn't Black Coat Science Guy!" Kazuo would run towards the fountain, having spotted Luard from fair away, as well as the teenage with the red coat. He would wave at the pair with a big, dumb smile on his face, which would make anyone question his actual intelligence. However, in a sudden moment of stupidity, he trips as soon as he reaches the fountain and his forehead hits the edge it. Kazuo quickly stands up covering his head in pain, repeating "It hurts" over and over. After a few seconds, he clears his throat and speaks more clearly. "Been a while, huh?"
"To be fair, not many guys go up to public fountains and start scribbling runes on them." Eito motions to the fountain in general. "Anyways, now that i'm asking questions, please do tell how you know me. I've had a bit of an identity crisis as of late and i'm having some trouble with my memory."
Quintus would notice that Eito seemed to gesture towards him but he seemed not to recognize him. Either he wasn't paying attention to the tournament bracket or he simply didn't remember. Even then he thought Eito might at least recall who won the tournament. Regardless he would pay more mind to the new comer. They seemed rather clumsy right off the bat but Quintus knew better than to judge someone too quickly. He wasn't sure whether or not he should approach the group directly but he'd just move a little closer to try and overhear what they'd be saying.
Bloody hell, I gotta go to bed. I invite unconsciousness.
Luard flinches a little as Kazuo approaches, he remembers them well alright, someone overly curious, who seemed perhaps too interested in what he did. Not that there’s anything he has to hide That is an accurate statement, likely due to my remaining at home mostly. Though something tells me you want something, don’t you? Luard glances sideways at Eito and shrugs, before speaking in his usual factual monotone Well, I first met you after you got into some argument with a man wearing white and then fell unconscious, since you were just laying there I added an observational tune which has since faded. Afterwards, we met more officially at your workplace where we talked about ambitions and cost. much to your annoyance.
OOC: then ignore the bit directed at Eito IC: with his watcher growing closer, Luard finally clears his throat and speaks up Do you have business with me or do you enjoy skulking around?
"Oh, I don't Mister Sith Lord, I was just passing by and wanted to say hi, that's all~" Kazuo laughs a bit at his own silly self and sits on the palce he hit his forehead on. Crossing his arms, he looks up to the man with confident eyes and a calm smile. His entire attitude taking a sudden shift into something more mature. However, just as he was about to speak, Luard finally called out the other young man. And so, Kazuo turned his attention to him. "Don't be shy, it's not like anyone here is some kind of monster."
Having being pointed out Quintus would finally decide to draw closer and reply. "Skulking? Does my answer really matter anyway? I just try to be cautious of 'unusual' types like yourselves. Not that I'm one to talk about what is and isn't unusual but I guess it takes one to know one." He'd almost seem to be speaking in a light-hearted manner despite saying that he's trying to be cautious. In truth, he was still being cautious but Quintus felt no need to be fearful or hostile as he spoke. Giving away such feelings would only cause more problems than help prove his points He'd pay extra close attention to Kazuo as well. He was the real source of anxiety for him since Luard seemed rather straightforward. He couldn't make a proper judgment on how Kazuo was yet which was plenty of reason to fear him. "Nobody here is a monster? Well, you never know, monsters take all kinds of shapes."
Though Luard would notice the slight change in demeanor he would have no reason to suspect anyone. The young man simply sighs and shakes his head The term is wizard actually not.... Whatever you said. You have others in this world apparently so it shouldn’t come off as THAT surprising. As for the stranger, he refused to give an actual answer, typically indicative of one with something to hide, and thus to be watched It matters as much as any other truth in this world. Things work smoothest when everyone is perfectly clear, otherwise inefficiencies abound. Humans and monsters are alike in this sense, they work far better with as much information as they can receive
A woman with lavender hair and glasses strolls around the mall for a few moments before stopping in front of the Peace Diner. "Yes... this place could work," she says to herself, noting the diner on her phone. "No one like my target or his counterparts could resist something so delicious like their number 3 special. Now it's only a matter of..." She overhears talking and looks to the central fountain, where Luard and a handful of others are talking. "It's been over a month. I've heard rumors that my client never had a deadline, but..." she thinks, then shakes her head. "No. That would only arouse suspicion. I'll confront them about my client when his killer is either behind bars or six feet underground."
"You say 'unusual' like that's a bad thing. I can see why you would say that, but in my opinion, it's the unusual things that give life so much entertainment value." He chuckles without taking his eyes off of Quintus, his pupil locked on him without moving a single inch, giving this intense and deep feel to his own eyes. Despite this, Kazuo keeps a rather calm and even warm smile on his face. "But you got me there, ever since I got here, a lot of things proved themselves to be possible." After this, he would just laugh at Luard's response, and kept quiet as he spoke about truth and efficiency. He couldn't exactly disagree with his statements, in fact, it was way closer to agreeing with all of it. Just the thing about "everyone is perfectly clear" where he would have added some more. "You act in a really logical and calculating way, Luard. It's kind of impressive."
Quintus would feel as though his assumption about Luard were correct. He was perfectly straightforward almost to a point that seemed to make his mindset rather predictable but even still he wasn't about to solely rely on his assumptions. As for Kazuo, something was definitely off about the way he kept staring at him. He was one to be cautious off as his words and actions felt slightly inconsistent but it almost seemed as if nobody else really paid it any mind. From his own perspective, it was traits like that which needed an extra amount of attention. Quintus would look towards Kazuo for a bit in return as if trying to figure out what his intentions were. He would quickly realize that Kazuo might notice this though and would try to focus in on Luard instead as to try and not to hint at his own intent. "I think there are some truth better left unknown but that might just be my own perspective. When you've come to know too much sometimes it can lead to...other complications. As for my use of the word unusual, I only meant it as something to be cautious of. I'm not quite ready to die because I didn't consider something a threat even when it was standing right before me. I've been in situations like that far too often..."
A blue haired boy walks into the mall. He seems to be looking for Bug-Catching supplies.
Focused as he is on the two ahead of him, Luard wouldn't notice Rosie watching him, instead, he glances at Kazuo again, before shaking his head. You make that sound like an achievement. Its not like I did anything, just speaking the only way that makes sense. His voice sounds distant and disinterested, almost bored, as he regards Quintus further It likely is. There is no other goal for a researcher like myself than to find yet another truth. To accomplish what no one has even considered. It is only through discovery that the impossible can become possible, and with it one can advance ever further
"John 8:32, 'Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free'. It's kind of interesing statement, even if it comes from the bible of all places. And since you show such disdain for truth, or rather, regret certain truths, would you say you are a free man? Perhaps you would even go as far as to say 'These truths keep me chained to reality, and so, to unfathomable pain and despair'. I wonder if truth really does make you free..." His attention would shift a single time, and his tone became much more serious as he began to ponder the nature of truth right then and there. Despite this, he already had answer to that. Quintus actions were pretty interesting indeed, his confession made everything even more clear as well. Such a slow, cautious approach, and the revelation of fear. "Don't think too much about this though, I kind of went on a tangent, didn't I? I hope I don't sound too religious, I'm not, but these things...you kind of just know about them thanks to the Messians." He would stop focusing on Quintus and instead keep a casual look on his eyes, seemingly not focusing anymore in general. Except for one thing, Luard's desires. At this, he could only nod and grin with both eyes closed, he felt he was absolutely right.
A rather tall woman in a long, black coat seems to step into the scene rather quietly, a single blue eye glancing over the group present. She seemed rather uninterested, running a hand through her pure white hair before wandering off by the fountain, sighing audibly and sitting at the edge of the fountain and tapping her feet. Despite seeming disinterested initially, her eye occasionally drifted to the others, as if her curiosity was getting the better of her.
Quintus would remain quiet at Kazuo's comment. Freedom was something he pondered before and despite that nature of Kazuo's tangent, he felt that it had a deeper meaning, at very least to him. He already knew how free he really was though. "I don't think I'll ever really be free. Living or dead my spirit always get passed along to someone or another. I don't need freedom though, I don't think any of us really need to be free mainly because I don't think many understand what freedom means." Quintus would begin walking away. He said what he felt he needed to say and had other things to do before the night took over the day. "I should get going. Still more to do today. I'll definitely keep an eye out if I meet either of you again."
"I say the same, Punished man~!" He waves goodbye to Quintus with a smile on his face. He didn't really know much about him, and it didn't seem like he would get much by jsut asking directly, but him mentioning finding things that made him outright FEAR truth, it was curious and interesting. He doesn't mind much though, and as he stretches himself, still sitting at the edge of the fountain, he turns to see a girl that's somewhat familiar to him. He keeps looking at her, and then looks left and right before speaking up. "Aren't you the girl from that one ramen shop?"
As Quintus walks off, Luard nods and directs one final comment to him. To be passed along, used, consumed by other entities, that's the nature of life. Its all a resource in the end. And to this end freedom is irrelevant. To be imprisoned is little more than to be aware of one's limits. for example, most men are not free to fly, but they do not see that as imprisonment do they? It might be worth considering, if nothing else.
The woman lazily turns her attention to Kazuo, her single eye half open. She tilts her head, speaking in a quiet, almost apathetic voice. "You should probably be more specific when you ask those sorts of questions. Today's your lucky day though, your criteria applies. I'll assume you've been to my shop and say yes. Did you need something?" She puts on a light smile, though the rest of her complexion didn't seem to change enough to reinforce that smile.
"Oh I don't 'need' anything, but maybe 'you' do. You kept staring at us while we talked, and that kind of makes me nervous. Don't go thinking that because a man has his back turned to you that he isn't looking at you." He chuckles at his own little comment before letting out a sigh. "Yes, I've been there once. It was pretty nice, it saved me from a rainy day after all. So? What is it that you need?"
Noe
A short catgirl walked out of a Black Topic store in the Mall. She looked kinda shifty, like she was hiding something. After leaving, she walked in a "I'm being perfectly normal right now" way, smiling all the while. All without a hassle, nyahahaha~ hmmm... I wonder if there's a pawn shop around here?
"Well, you'd probably be right any other time. I was just curious is all. I normally don't see so many people in a totally mundane area." She shrugs at Kazuo, reaching a hand up to adjust that strange black eyepatch covering half her face.
"You don't? But there are always a lot of people around. Are you sure you are using your correct eye when you go out?" Kazuo crosses his arms over his chest and leans a bit to his left to get a better look at the patch she is wearing. "You need to tell me though, how can you see through that thing? Don't tell me, you have a super sharp sight, android lady."
After watching Kazuo and Yamiko for a moment, Luard would step off to the side, so as to not disturb the two, and in doing so catch sight of Noe just as the sun dips over the horizon. The tall, dark-cloaked man approaches her with a sigh There is but it doesn't open for another hour. Though I would suggest finding somewhere further, otherwise they may ask questions when they find a similar item is missing from a nearby store
"I don't see through it. That's why it's there. You're a little nosy aren't you?" For once, the stone statue of a woman cracks a legitimate smile, letting out a huff that seemed vaguely like a chuckle and crossing her arms. "Perhaps my lack of awareness makes more sense now?"
"I like making noise, people often turn to see from where that one annying schreech is coming from. But you make a good point, silly me~" He mimics the girl's gesture, although actually laughing as he does. Then, he extends his right hand to her and offers a handshake. "I'm Kazuo Fabian. It's nice to see that even an android girl can smile from time to time."
"Mori, Yamiko. A pleasure to meet you. I hope you don't think I'm actually an android though, you'll find yourself disappointed if you keep thinking like that." She firmly grasps Kazuo's hand with a fuzzy, gloved hand. Something about the way she held his hand for just that moment seemed strange. Like she was strangling his hand for just a second.
Noe
Hunya? Noe spins around to face Luard, smiling the same as always. Oh, it's Luard! I-I didn't take anything, my pockets are always lined, nyahaha~ Despite her trying to be as cute as possible, it was clear she was lying and being sheepish about it. I-It's just a couple of things. Money is hard to make in this world when there's no bad guys running around... And, I'm keeping one thing for myself, nya.
"Oh but it suits you, Yamiko. Just because of the voice you have anyways." He would take closer attention to the hand of the girl, and notice her firm grasp. She seemed strong, perhaps she was also a warrior like the rest of the people he had met? He didn't know, but the eyepatch was evidence of something else going on. Kazuo's eyes get a bit sharper as he looks at the girl a bit more seriously. "So, tell me about yourself, do you usually come to this mall during your free time?"
Yamiko returns the sharp glance, though with a hint of playful mimicry to her face. She stuffs both her hands in her pockets again, raising a brow. "I don't usually have free time usually. Haven't for... a long time. In all actuality having this much time to myself is pretty new. Now what's the face for?
Luard sighs and shakes his head, regarding her with a cold gaze, almost as though looking past Noe rather than at them I never actually said you took anything. Regardless of the situation, it might not be best to bring up the subject of theft, at least unless you are accused. He has no real opinion on theft, hardly even a way to measure it even here he's pretty much been able to get whatever he might want. His voice remains calm and even, giving no hint of any sort of emotion As for money, its actually extremely easy to make. It seems in this world they've taken to a habit of accepting altered paper as a form of currency. Visual changes like this are one of the easiest to perform, so long as there's a reference point I bet anyone could do it.
"My face?" The young man would look at the water of the fountain, trying to see his reflection. As he uses his right hand to keep his hat in place, he uses the left one and its fingers to explore his own expression. "I like to call this face, the 'Now you got me interested' face." He would turn back to her, his expression doesn't change, but interest becomes much more obvious if anyone were to look into his eyes. "But, I think I'm glad to hear you can get some free time. What do you usually do? Is the ramen shop that busy all the time?"
"What do I do...? I run a ramen shop. What else would I do? You've seen it yourself." She seems a little insistent on her answer, her face turning into a light frown as if she didn't quite enjoy answering the question. "Any other questions?"
"Then what about you eyepatch? If you don't mind me asking. Was it a particularly bad costumer or just an accident?" He figured he could push a bit more as long as the questions weren't too direct. Regardless, he might need to change the subject quickly depending on her reaction. She seemed a bit annoyed, it was very clear, but he couldn't figure out why, maybe he shouldn't. But for now, he had to be careful, since, after all, this seemed liek a really tricky thing to be talking about. "And you also seem very strong, so that's why I'm guessing bad costumers."
Noe
Mmm, that's true! Papa said it's only stealing if you get caught! so I don't get caught! except by Luard-san, nyahaha~ She sways side to side, carelessly smiling at Luard. Even though he stared coldly, she kept looking the same as usual without being phased or put off. The next thing he says makes her ears perk up, however. You can just make money!? that would solve anything! you would just make it and use it! I'm not that good with paper, but I like tearing it up. I'm better at shooting things, nya~
"...A story for later. It's much too personal to tell someone whom I've just met. No offense." Her irritation seemed to dissolve into what looked like a somber self-directed frustration. She grits her teeth for just a moment before shaking her head, returning to her level-headed cool expression. "I seem strong? Perhaps it's due to the exercise routine?"
He guessed right, there is much more to it, but it's not an issue he had the right to get involved with, at least not yet. He couldn't help but feel a bit bad, but he shrugs this feeling away, it's unnecessary in this situation. "I won't press more on that then, it's completely understandable you wouldn't just tell something like that to anyone." After this, he nods with his head and tries to flex his right arm, although his coat makes his "muscles" hard to see, to the point there is nothing there. "You do, I barely exercise anymore. I've been moving from one place to another but I'm not very physically strong. Even, you could say my forte is my mind."
Well, yes, all I have to do is take some paper, use a reference point, and then alter its physical properties until they are identical. Though, admittedly it might take someone like you quite a while. With magic its actually pretty easy. Luard yawns, keeping one eye on the girl before continuing with an even, factual tone. Never seen too much of a need for it though, aside from getting food of course. Most objects for sale seem rather... Superfluous I suppose. Like a distraction
Yamiko doesn't seem too impressed, her eye opening just the tiniest bit more, though it's debatable whether or not that was even a reaction to what Kazuo did. "Perhaps it's the heavy lifting? I do have to transport supplies for the restaraunt."
Noe
Ohhh, magic? I can kinda do magic. With my Persona! it's not like witches and stuff though, nya. She nods at Luard, her tail moving with her heads motions cartoonishly. I usually just get food and clothes, too, nya! but... Some other things are really neat too! like video games, and guns, and techy stuff! and, well... Things like this. Among the things she took, Noe pulls out a CD. It looks old, but the casing is entirely new. Perhaps it is a re-release, or music made to look nostalgic. The cover of the album was pretty retro looking, at least. Where I'm from, CDs are hard to find. Stuff like this is really popular there, though! just only either digital or on a TB Disc! I really wanted this one in a cassette, but a CD is fine, nyaha~
"That probably helps a lot, but sounds a lot less interesting than you being made out of metal or stone." He would wave his hand at her dismissively, playing it as a joke and with a much more calm expression than before. He would then turn his gaze at the water of the fountain, thinking for a moment. "How is it? Working at the ramen shop I mean. I have never done something even remotely close to that, so what's it like?"
Luard finds himself being distracted by Noe's tail for a moment, watching it go up and down before shaking it out of his head and focusing back on the CD case she had brought up. He has little point of reference for such things, so he simply nods along And what exactly is it these CDs are supposed to do? I haven't paid them any heed so far I'm afraid
Noe
Oh, you put CDs in a machine and you put stuff on them~ we don't use them much anymore where I'm from cos they're kinda outdated, but I like how big and round they are, nya! this one has music on it! I don't have anything to play it on, though... Noe herself seems perplexed upon this realization. It seemed she instinctively took it on impulse as if it were an antique.
"Well if that makes you happy, I guess you can pretend I'm an android. Just don't try anything funny or anything." Yamiko chuckles again, seeming to have lost any previous tension. "It's stressful. But I suppose it's not too bad. Just um... troublesome."
"It's not like I'm going to try and reverse engineer you, so don't worry, I won't do anything funny." He feels a bit glad she isn't as wary as she was before of him, and so, he lets out a quiet sigh of relief. "Why troublesome? Do you guys get a lot of people usually?"
Luard looks at the disc more closely, before waiting and searching for something within his cloak, a few seconds later, he takes out a rectangular device, black screen in the middle with one red and one blue controller attached to each side, after inspecting it for a moment, he shakes his head I was hoping it might have possessed some sort of reader I could have repurposed. Afraid the only device I have reads chips. Though I guess there's probably an actual player nearby
Noe
Mm, probably! will you help me look for one, Luard-san? have you been here before? I'm just an outsider, nya! You have lotsa neat gadgets so you get them all somewhere right? Noe wagged her tail, staring at Luard wide-eyed as if he were going to give her food, or a toy.
"I just find the job a bit difficult is all. That's really all there is to it." She darted her eyes away from Kazuo, puffing her cheek out a bit. Something might've been off about what she said, but there's no telling what.
I'm afraid I have other matters to attend to. I was only here to take care of a small business matter that has long since concluded, thus i really ought to be on my way. Without further effort to explain Luard sighs and tries to walk past Noe and out of the mall and into the fresh, warm night
Noe
Despite this, however, the girl follows Luard like a lost kitten. Luard-saaaan! where are you going, nya? Are you going to a super secret tech lair? Maybe you have a CD thingy there somewhere, probably!
"A bit difficult? That sounds kind of-" But then a nice melody interrupts the young man, the ringtone of his phone. Quickly he pulls out his small device and checks who the caller is. Taking a look at the screen would reveal it says "Mom" on it. Kazuo's face pales for a moment and quickly stands up, patting Yamiko on the head before rushing off. "Sorry, I need to go! I was supposed to get home an hour ago, I'll go visit your store some other time!" He quickly answers the phone as he begins to leave the mall. "I'm sorry, okay!? I was with some people I know!" People around him were looking at the young man in a funny way as he made his way through the main entrance and into the streets.
believe it or not you're half right. My next stop is my lab, though my studies are... Somewhat unconventional. I don't ordinarily deal with technology however, so I do not believe it will be of any assistance. Best of luck. Luard wouldn't spare Noe another glance as he continues out through the streets, gaze focused on the plans ahead of him OOC: I'm really gonna have to go, getting up in 4 hours after all, so like, you can follow if you want or whatever, I simply need to sleep for now, won't reply for a while
