Japanese or English Audio?
I'm new here first of all, so hello to everyone! I'm like... really late to join the party but I'm still excited. I'm kind of new to forums in general so I'm a little nervous :') Now, on to my question- how many people played Persona 5 with Japanese audio? So far everyone I met has played with the English audio, which makes sense. Have you listened to the characters with their Japanese voices? I personally play in Japanese, but then I listen to the English voices afterwards so I understand both sides. To the people that played with English voices, are there any specific character's voice that you particularly hated? If you listened to the Japanese voices after, are there any you like more? To the people that played in Japanese, do you think that the English voices fit the characters well? Are there any voices you hated? What made you want to play in Japanese instead of English? Just here to spark some friendly conversation because I'm very curious! ^^
i played with english voices i hated futaba's voice tbh and even the japanese version got on my nerves
@InterNiko Interesting, I can definitely see why you wouldn’t like her voice. I think her jp voice fits well with her character and makes her a more ‘quirky’ character, but it makes sense how it can be pretty annoying.
Welcome to the Phansite! I played Persona 5 with English audio. Normally, I would watch subs of anime, and was considering playing P5 with the sub. However, I feel like the English voices do fit a bit more. Because it's in my first language, I feel like I can understand the characters more rather than with just hearing Japanese and seeing text dialogue? Idk, hard to explain. I have watched Persona 5 the Animation all the way through, though. I'll give my piece for each of the Phantom Thieves: Ren - I think both VAs are pretty solid, though I sense the nasty crimeboi-ness in the dub more. Morgana - Again, both are pretty solid. I'm not sure which one is better. Ryuji - I think VAs do an effin incredible job. Though, I'll have to go with Max Middleton's voice a bit more, even though both are very similar, the dub captures Ryuji's more laid-back, teenager vibe? Ann - I think JP's Ann's voice is a bit too high. It really emphasizes the cuteness and sexiness, while Erika Harlacher highlights her tom-boy and laid-back nature. Both VAs did shine during the nude incident, though. Yusuke - Again, have to go with the English VA. While both are amazing and very sexy, I feel like JP's Yusuke was slightly.... horny, and less dramatic? That's how I feel anyways. English Yusuke is just outstanding some times, but then sometimes, his voice is kinda awkward. Matt Mercer shined during his character's arc, animated cutscenes, but was awkward during the other cutscenes and Shido's Arc in my opinion. But still, bless Matt Mercer, succeeding to voice an incredible character, Makoto - I don't have much to say for Makoto. I might like the Japanese VA a bit more, I just feel like it's more fitting. Futaba - Both VAs are very different. In JP, Futaba gets the loli/moe-voice treatment. In English, her voice is a bit more realistic for someone of her personality. I don't know which is better, honestly. Haru - Same for Futaba, but the other way around. Though.... I feel like with Haru being more innocent excluding her sadistic side and sweet than Futaba, the loli/moe-voice is more believable, so I will say that I like the English voice more. Goro - Both of these voices are very good. When I first heard Akechi, I just found his voice soooooooooo satisfying, and I wanted to hear more. But... I think Robbie Daymond does a bit better, because of... spoiler scenes.
Akechi is where I’ll have to say... the Japanese voice was outstanding. Especially during those spoiler scenes. Just for safety... the pure, raw emotion I could hear in his voice sent shivers doen my spine and the english va just didn’t do that for me. Though, I do respect the English va for doing a pretty good job! I love Matt Mercer so much!
I don’t have much of a general preference between them but I like the English voices slightly more
I still love them all even tho its different
I find that is a lot of anime dubs and some game dubs, there's at least one REALLY annoying VA, but with P5, in fact, almost the whole persona series, there isn't anyone with a terrible voice. except fuuka, which is a real shame because i love her character but I guess if I did have to pick one character whose voice I didn't like in P5 dub, it'd probably be caroline. The VA is good, considering how I like lavenza and justine's voices, but I just feel that the voice doesn't work with such and angry character, that the voice sounds better calmer.
Both are good, but the english version has Max Mittelman, making Ryuji's Awakening ten times better.
I really love Akechi's VA in eng since he's the same as Prompto which is my fav character in FFXV, other than that i did play in Eng and had plenty of time to listen to Jap audio in P5A. Both dubs are very well made imo.
@Akechi_Kun Prompto's my favorite too! I also played that game in jp though ^^;; I didn't feel like his english voice actor fit him, but it might have just been because I was so used to it. But yes, they are definitely both very good.
English. I prefer being able to understand what people are saying in video games.
@bluehairedemo Fair enough. I like playing in Japanese because I can compare the difference in conversations and see how they changed the characters when they localized it. It's actually very interesting to see the little things they change!
I usually always go English, and I do like most everyone here! Iwai was the standout for me, Kaiji Tang is a treasure and I love his roles.
I'll go with the English version. Morgana voice sounds so cyoo in the English version OwO
