Kanda Church
The Kanda district is a popular religious center, with shrines and buildings of various ages, backgrounds, and religions come together to form a beautiful chaos. Though most services would have ended a few hours ago, you can still find some members, or tourists walking around the sanctuary of a grand church., including one, younger woman in somewhat anachronistic white priestess garb, who remains around the edge of the sanctuary, content to watch the others converse
Sam
*Sam stands outside the church looking up at it. His assisstant, Mayu, stands next to him, a bag of tools in one of her hands.** This palce looks familiar. Might have joined a cult here or something. Mayu: A cult? Yeah. Not the first. Probably won't be the last. Mayu: I wanna join a cult Probably a bad idea. Do it anyway. Mayu: Will do.
Eris keeps watch, occasionally looking out to the street where she finds Sam, a somewhat familiar face, standing outside with a girl. The priestess calmly walks out and bows to the pair. It’s been a while since I’ve seen you around, hasn’t it Sam? And I see you brought a friend as well. What is it that brings you here? Never seemed like the religious type
A young man with an odd looking crossbow on his back would be walking around the grand church. Their eyes would be looking around nervously as if they knew they didn't belong. Their attire would almost seem to imply wealth but there was something oddly artificial about their clothes. The clothes were completely clean without even a scratch on them as if it had never been worn by any on the most peculiar thing about them though was a book strapped to their side in a locked leather pouch. A sinister aura could be felt coming off the book even with it being concealed. "Geeze, how much longer do I have to look. I'm really not use to this...to people but a job's a job and I can't really refuse even if I wanted to..."
Sam
Eh. Felt like going for a walk. Mayu came with. She bought some new tools. Mayu: I did. So what is this place? It's a church. Kinda. Mayu: Kinda? Why Kinda? Dunno. But I'm sure someone gets the joke. Anyway, it's good to see you again Eris. No more dream gods to kill I hope.
Walking around Tractie doesn’t find anything peculiar about the place, it has a calming and welcoming aura for all who enter, as a safe haven ought to. Near the front another woman with long, white hair tied back in a ponytail with ordinary street clothes sits by the alter, looking up through the church’s stainglass windows. After a second she looks around ???: Huh, looks like miss Anthule’s found something to busy herself. Good, she needed to get out more anyways. Eris shakes a little, looking downward to avoid eye contact as she takes a calming breath Nothing that I’ve heard of at least. Though I have seen a few of her Shades around. It’s probably nothing though
Sam
Better be nothing. I'm doing that whole Lotus Eater Machine bullshit again, I'm telling you that right now. Mayu: Ha ha. I don't get it. I told you about it. Wait, I did didn't I? Might have forgotten to do that actually. Yeah, that explains it. My bad Mayu: Idiot. 1000 IQ Mayu: Still an idiot. *Sam sticks his tongue out at Mayu. He then recomposes himself and looks back at Eris.* Well, as long as you aren't here to recruit more cult members for a voyage to the stars, I think we'll be fine.
The young man would seem to grow impatient with searching. He would visibly show signs of wanting to stop but he'd still continue regardless as if he felt he had no choice. Finally, the book within the pouch he was carrying seemed to glow as if to indicate something. "Finally, time for a break...Maybe I can enjoy myself a little now. One of the others should be doing this...I guess I'm the most perceptive though. Doubt any of the others could even focus on anything besides their weapons for more than 5 seconds." He began to snicker to himself a little as he himself started to become lost in...something. His eyes seemed to go blank for a moment before the book seemed to radiate a certain energy that brought them back to life again. "Looks like I lost myself for a minute there. Can't be helped with how thin the mana is here. Well, if it was too thick everyone else would be suffering but still, could do with a little bit more in the air."
Eris winces before looking back up at Sam, a frown across her face I’m fully aware of the gravity of my errors, I don’t need another reminder. Eris slowly shakes her head, eyes closed The white haired girl looks over at Tractie, somewhat concerned. After a moment she looks around, before deciding to sit next to him ???: Pardon the intrusion, you seem a little worn out. Is everything alright?
The young man would freeze for a moment upon someone speaking to them. It wasn't in exhaustion like before but rather out of anxiety of having another person speak to them. Finally, they seemed to compose themselves a little and began speaking. "I-I just have a hard time breathing is all! Uh, my lungs are very particular when it comes to my location!" Despite how they seemed before it was as if the young man had never even so much as seen a person before, let alone talk to one. They'd only calm down upon the book beginning to glow furiously. The young man quickly took out a key and began trying to unlock the pouch. Finally, after getting it out he opened it up and pulled out the book. The book almost looked like it was covered in red scaled with no title of any kind. On its cover instead was what looked to be a closed eye and mouth. The young man would quickly look in the book, opening it to a dark looking page. He tried to keep it to himself, only quickly reading the contents before closing it again. "H-have you noticed anything odd, like people collapsing out of the blue or anything?"
Sam
Well, we all make mistakes. I ever tell you the story about how I lost my arm? Cause Gin and the others tend to remind me alot. Mayu: He reversed the sealing of prison holding an alien terrorist group that- Silence. Mayu: Sorry.
The White-haired woman tries to take a look inside of the red book, curious as she is, but I’d unable to take more than a glimpse. The woman looks calmly into his eyes and slowly tries to take the youth’s hand ???: It looks like I’m about to if you can’t calm down. Perhaps we should start with our names. I am called Losaria, who may you be? Eris: Alien.... After a silent moment Eris breaks out into rare laughter, bending over which causes her hat to nearly fall off her head. A few seconds later she would straighten back up, adjusting her hat before returning with a smile Now now, I’m sure it was an accident. Curious as ever I take it. It’s not like you knew what would happen
The young man almost seemed shocked at the question but would try to remain calm as requested. "My name? Nobodies ever asked that before. I'm not sure if I should...No, it's fine. I'm Morren the Mad Raptor. Uh, wait, that's wrong. I'm a hunter I should say instead, right?" The book would seem to glow briefly with approval. "Y-yeah, I hunt wild beasts that might hurt people. Uh, it's nice to meet you Losaria."
Sam
Yeah. Definatly an accident. I wouldn't have released that damnable snake on purpose. Mayu: Bitter. Hammer. *Mayu takes a hammer from her bag and gves it to Sam.* Mayu: Sure Boss what do you want with... *Sam hits Mayu with the hammer before putting it back in her bag. Mayu clutches her head.* Mayu: Oooowwww. That hurt! You'll live.
Losaria looks over at the book once again, before deciding to simply let it go with a smile. The girl pulls her hair back and crosses her legs Losaria: what a coincidence, I’m a bit of a hunter myself. Me and a dear friend of mine. Thohhh it seems we got separated a while back. Eris giggles a little, shaking her head before beckoning for Sam to enter Now that you’re here there’s someone I’m not sure if you’ve met. I mean, you sort of have but... Nevermind, lets just go and find her. Eris would walk back into the church, inside which, among the other people, Sam would find a woman he might last remember as Nexus, the dream god mentioned earlier, talking to a somewhat nervous-looking man with exceptionally clean clothes
Sam
Aye aye. *Sam and Mayu follow Eris.* Mayu: Hey boss look. That guy has really clean clothes. Exceptionally clean Mayu: Oooh. I like that word. It is Exceptional. Mayu: That is indeed the word I like. So, who are we looking for again, Eris?
Eris waves towards the white-haired girl, calling out her name Eris: Losaria, I see you have company. There’s someone here I’d like for you to meet. Losaria quickly apologizes to the well-dressed man, laughing it off before standing up to approach Eris, Sam and Mayu Losaria: Pardon me, I take it you’re friends of Eris’s? Who ate they? Losaria looks over to Eris, giving the priestess her cue to step away from between Sam, Mayu, and Losaria Eris: Losaria, this is Sam, one of the people who helped defeat Nexus a year ago, and his friend Mayu. I take it you don’t remember them? Losaria: Not really, but I understand I owe you some thanks then. Losaria briefly bows to Sam with a smile
Sam
Why should she remember us when we've never met? Mayu: Amnesia maybe. Familiar sights and faces can help kickstart memory Oh, so Eris was curious if she knows us. I see. Makes sense I suppose.
The man stumbles upon the church, recognizing it just as he did with the bar, and he sits down on the steps, holding his head in his lap. “You know... but... NO... shut it... need it...” Finding his resolve he goes to walk up to the church door, and knocks on it lightly, shaking a little, both out of fear and the cold.
Eris looks between Losaria and Sam, suddenly worried Eris: No no, Sam, are you sure you’re alright? you should definitely remember her from when she was... Well. Losaria chuckles and puts a hand on Eris’s shoulder Losaria: possessed, it’s not that big of a deal. I was acting as Nexus’s vessel to this world and Eris was wondering how much I remembered from that time. Still, maybe he wasn’t there, are you sure you’re not the one misremembering? Eris: He has to have.. I mean, he’s the one who brought Nexus up to begin with. No one seems to respond to the knocking, though the man would hear a little of the conversation inside, as a public building the door remains unlocked and slightly ajar
Nervously he opens the door, barely hearing snippets of the conversation, and he goes to sit down in the back when he sees everyone talking together. “Why... did you... possession!” he whispers as he watches the conversation.
Sam
Hmm. Nexus... Though she was bigger, glowier and getting constantly attacked by anyone and everyone with explosions and shit. Mayu: Did you forget? Hmm. She wasn't exactly terribly important. Maybe I just forgot to remember her for later. Mayu: I have the same memory type as you, boss. That's not how that works. Hmm. True. Maybe I just didn't get a good look at her. Because explosions and shit. Either way, apologies I suppose.
Eris looks back at Sam, then to Losaria one last time as she nervously tugs in one of her amulets Eris: I guess that’s true, but atill... Losaria: it doesn’t really matter anyways, that's in the past after all. What matters is that I don’t remember him. You really shouldn’t fret over this anyways miss Anthule. Losaria lets our a contented sigh and looks around the church, her eyes rest on the man in the back as Eris keeps talking Eris: but it is my fault that part of your life is just gone. I really.... Eris follows Losaria’s gaze to the back for a moment before asking Eris: Do you know him? Losaria: I think I should.... You stay here, he looks... Terrible. Losaria heads to the back of the church, where the haggard looking man is sitting, and asks Losaria: excuse me sir, are you quite alright?
Sam
*Sam and Mayu watch as Losaria walks off.* I feel like I'm offending someone by not remembering this girl Mayu: Don't ask me. Comms weren't working back then, so I can't weigh in. Also true. Well, I think that's enough Religion for one day. Take care of yourself, Eris. *With that and a wave from Mayu, Sam and his assisstant leave the church and head back to Sam's Lab.*
The man shivers on the spot and looks up to Losaria and shakes his head. Getting a good luck at his face, it seems familiar yet the white hair and scars were not there before. Yet there’s more than just that that differs. “Yes.. I... don’t really have any place to stay for now... and I doubt I’ve anything to give in return. Is there anywhere you can send me?” With that he looks back at his knees and the ground, hands just as scarred as the rest of his body.
Losaria looks down at the man with some concern, before silently nodding to him Losaria: Miss Anthule has been allowed to stay here for some time, so long as she helps out or... Losaria glances back for a moment, considering how public the place is they might not be comfortable resting here Losaria: I have my own home a little ways out of town you could stay at for some time. It’s out in the woods, so much more private if you’d prefer. No need for payment. I’m doing more than fine on my own.
(Opens the doors and nearly trips entering the church) I am not running all the way across town for an assignment again, I heard there was something going on about this church?
He looks up and smiles a little nodding, something still striking you about his face. “I’m just glad our ‘mutual friend’ could be helpful for once. Though I don’t want to impose on you.” The way he spits out mutual friend like a vat of poison, it’s almost certain they aren’t on good terms, if they ever were to begin with. He looks back down and brings his backpack around, and starts scrounging through it. “Still... there must be something I can do to repay you.... umm Eris right? Sorry I have a name only.”
(edited by Aincrad_Hazel)
Losaria looks over at the man, a calm grin across her face as she looks down at his backpack Losaria: Not quite, miss Anthule is up near the front of the church. I'm Losaria, a good friend of hers. Pleasure to make your acquaintance sir.... Losaria extends a hand towards the man, an eyebrow raised in expectation Up front, Eris looks up to find the detective nearly tripping. She seems somewhat confused as she waves to him Eris: Excuse me, who may you be? As far as I know there's nothing out of the ordinary happening here
Well then crap, must’ve taken a wrong turn (Exhausted, the detective walks out of the church)
“I... huh haven’t quite gotten that far... Why is it I never got that far...” Shaking his head he mutters to himself for a short time with the only word being made out is dye. Looking up he takes her hand and nods. Inside the backup is a mess, a few change of clothes, some hygiene essentials, but there are also letters in the back and a few broken pieces of... something in there. “Let’s go with... Hazel. Just Hazel for now.” He gives her a smile and she can feel how he is still sort of shaking. “Well it’s nice to meet you Losaria, and I apologize for the mix up. Count that up to another fuck up on that ‘friends’ account.”
Losaria smiles and pulls to help Hazel up. Losaria: Pleasure to meet you sir Hazel, I don't mind helping you get back on your feet, but we might want to get moving. It'll be dark soon and its a rather long walk. The girl glances down at his backpack, but doesn't pry, its probably quite personal and important, to some capacity at least
Getting pulled up he coughs a bit and smiles closing the backpack up. After putting it back on, he nods and stares at the door. “Yeah... getting back on my feet might be a tough one but yeah getting going first... yeah I don’t trust this place at all...” With that he nods and looks to Losaria. “I’ll just... follow behind you then...”
Losaria looks back at Hazel, before nodding and heading out the door, it'd be quite a while before they ended up getting to her house in the woods, especially from the middle of the city, Losaria seems able to keep going for a long time, effortlessly, but she looks back to ensure that Hazel doesn't end up falling behind in the meantime. Losaria: Care to say anything about what happened? You look like you've seen some terrors
He struggles to keep up a bit, the last few days have been hard on the body and mind. But still he persists and tries staying close behind her. “It’s difficult to say... I know I have... the scars aren’t just here for show... but it’s hard to remember what did what and why any of it ever happened in the first place... but for a while I was safe. Months. Home, with family, friends. Then I got dragged back here again, but not the same.”
Losaria frowns, closing her eyes momentarily as they continue along their way So you have amnesia then? I'm sorry to hear about that, but there's nothing to do at this point but make the best of it. I hope I can at least take care of living expenses, so long as you need it. Well, as long as you're fine with wild meat. I usually get my own.
“Oh no, not amnesia... it’s complicated but I remember bits and pieces of the first time, like looking through fog, you only see part of the picture. It’s confusing but I remember after that, then being dragged right back here.” He sighs and laughs hollowly. “Funny how when you have everything you could want, the world snatches it from you as many times as it can. Justs to... kick you down... and leave you bleeding...” At this he drifts off into his own memories, still following behind but just distracted.
Losaria looks back at Hazel, concerned, and continues onwards without speaking. There’s not much she can do to help in this case after all. Still, she puts on a grin and says Well then, you’ll just have to kick back. Losaria wouldn’t say much more until they finally got out of the city, taking a lengthy walk through the forest until they find an old-fashioned wooden shelter. it looks as though it were built fairly recently, and though it lacks many of the comforts of a more modern house, it has a warm fireplace, and two small beds to sleep in at the very least.
Having remained silent, Hazel looks at the house and smiles. He looks at Losaria with a sad smile and somewhat wet eyes. “Thank you, thank you so much for all you’re doing for me. I just hope I don’t bring you any trouble with it.” He takes a look around real quick and places his hand near the fire, the heat not bothering him at all. “Did you build all this yourself? It’s very... homey.”
Losaria smiles and enters with Hazel, sweeping her hair aside as she takes her own seat near the fire I should thank you for the company. I don’t normally get visitors out here, as it’s a bit too far for miss Anthule. Losaria heads to one side of the hit where some dried strips of meat were hanging and brings some of the jerky to the fire, offering Hazel a piece Back home I was part of a group of rangers, we moved around the forest we lived, both to help protect it and avoid taking too much from one place. Overall it wasn’t too hard to adjust, though the trees are much less... Lively here
He smiles a little and takes the jerky, eating it slowly so he could continue talking. “Well I’m glad I could help in that way, visiting I mean. And lively... you don’t mean they were... well... never mind I shouldn’t ask. Don’t need more nightmares.” he laughs dryly and stares into the fire, just watching it flicker. “So you help out a lot at that church I take it...”
Losaria chuckles as she continues eating her own piece, earning it by the fire Oh no, that’s what Miss Anthule does. I merely go into town to visit her from time to time, I’m not entirely fond of cities. Feels a bit too enclosed for me.
“Well you two must be very close then... and why talk to me then? Just asking out of curiosity...” He continues staring into the fire and blowing into it every so often, as well as finishing up that jerky. “It’s just something I’ve been wondering for a bit now...”
Losaria closes her eyes with a giggle What, was I supposed to just walk silently the whole time? That would be rather rude. Or did you mean back at the church? Losaria takes a deep breath, opening her eyes and taking another bite before continuing You looked familiar is all, so I thought I ought to check on you.
He sighs and holds his hand as he turns around eyes sort of glossing over. “So that explains it then. We did meet back then. Looks like our ‘friend’ got around a lot more then I thought.” He grabs some of the things from his backpack, the broken tip of the cane, Shadows incomplete prototype and a few letters. “Throwing these in the fire should be fine right?”
Losaria looks over the items, unsure of what they are, or at least what they mean to Hazel, she clears her throat “I don’t think you should. You wouldn’t have bothered carrying them this far if it meant nothing to you, no? But the fire should be fine.”
“The only reason I carried them this far was because they are the only things that fell with me when I got here. The rest I had to scavenge and steal just so I could damn well survive, and knowing him, it’s probably his damn fault I’m stuck here again!” He crumpled up one of the letters and tossed it in, the word Gamma being printed on its front. He sighs and tosses the rest of the stuff in the backpack. “My life ruined again because of him.” sorry bud but do love ya!
oof, haven’t used that name in a while Losaria closes her eyes to avoid seeing the letter burn. The woman stands up, and stretches “I wouldn’t quite call it ruined yet. After all, we’ve hardly even met. Maybe it’ll work out alright in the end. For now, it’s getting late. You should probably rest while you can.” Witg that, Losaria would head over to her own bed on the opposite side of the house, leaving Hazel with one closer to the fireplace
“Well then let’s hope it does get better in the end. Gods know I doubt it, but who knows...” Yawning Hazel walks over to his bed and lies down, putting the pack to the side and staring at the ceiling, whispering to himself. “I’ve cried enough for our family. And now you’re stuck there watching, as I was.” And with that he closes his eyes and begins to sleep.
