Kanda Church
The young man would freeze for a moment upon someone speaking to them. It wasn't in exhaustion like before but rather out of anxiety of having another person speak to them. Finally, they seemed to compose themselves a little and began speaking.
"I-I just have a hard time breathing is all! Uh, my lungs are very particular when it comes to my location!"
Despite how they seemed before it was as if the young man had never even so much as seen a person before, let alone talk to one. They'd only calm down upon the book beginning to glow furiously.
The young man quickly took out a key and began trying to unlock the pouch. Finally, after getting it out he opened it up and pulled out the book. The book almost looked like it was covered in red scaled with no title of any kind. On its cover instead was what looked to be a closed eye and mouth.
The young man would quickly look in the book, opening it to a dark looking page. He tried to keep it to himself, only quickly reading the contents before closing it again.
"H-have you noticed anything odd, like people collapsing out of the blue or anything?"
Kanda Church
The young man almost seemed shocked at the question but would try to remain calm as requested.
"My name? Nobodies ever asked that before. I'm not sure if I should...No, it's fine. I'm Morren the Mad Raptor. Uh, wait, that's wrong. I'm a hunter I should say instead, right?"
The book would seem to glow briefly with approval.
"Y-yeah, I hunt wild beasts that might hurt people. Uh, it's nice to meet you Losaria."
Evolution comes... Are you ready?
The man would look Joji up and down as if to asses him. He almost seems on guard but quickly relaxes noticing nothing too out of the ordinary about then, at least enough to cause concern.
"So, you felt it. Seems you may have some hidden gift then. Take my advice and forget about it, the less you know about me the better. It's not good to get attached to those who are ill-fated.
Seems like it's almost time anyway. I'd like to get this all out of the way so we can return to our search."
The man would begin following along with the more experienced soldiers, slowly filing into place. It was almost as if he looked at himself as a veteran as well but perhaps in a different way.
Sun Mall: When was the last time we had one of these?
The book looked for a moment at Peter as if assessing him.
It was hard to tell exactly how it was feeling as its mouth could only smile but it seemingly decided to open on it's own accord.
It quickly flipped open to a black blank page that seemed different from the rest of its content. Words began to appear on this page as if they were writing themselves.
"You may refer to me as Tractus De Monstrum if you wish. I dont mind if you'd like to come up with a nickname or shorten that name, in fact, that might be for the better.
I apologize for my lack of trust but you can never be sure if a witch might be nearby. Troublesome individuals who can manipulate magical entities such as I am.
Anyway, I'll get to the point. I am seeking a substance known as Miasma. I have reason to believe its beginning to form in this world and that's a problem for your kind and a opportunity for mine. Miasma is highly concentrated mana, a substance I need to complete most basic tasks and one that is highly poisonous to humans when unfiltered."
Lillian seemed to smile a little bit more seeing the Tractus De Monstrum open up to someone.
Sun Mall: When was the last time we had one of these?
The flame on the lamp would grow brighter for a moment as the girl seemed to grow more excited.
"That would help a lot! Let's see, uh, wait, what was I looking for again. Master, could you explain it?"
Finally, she would pull the book out of its pouch. The book was covered in what looked to be red reptilian scales and a bulge that soon opened up to be revealed to be and eye. Below the eye was also an indent that would begin opening to reveal a mouth with sharp teeth.
The eyes began looking around the area as if in panic as the girl tried to open the book for Peter to look inside. The book however stubbornly stayed closed. The sinister aura from before would pulse around it once more almost scaring her enough to drop it but her hands stayed on it firmly as if protecting something important.
"Master, why are you being so shy? He's a nice person, I'm sure."
Sun Mall: When was the last time we had one of these?
Lillian would seem to smile as the book's aura finally began retracting back.
"Magic! That was it, thank you for reminding me. Wait, what was the magic for?"
As she pondered this she would reply to Peter's offer.
"I can't, I'm looking for something important. If I don't find it then master will struggle much more to maintain us. Besides, master always knows where to go so I'll never be lost."
