Sun Mall: When was the last time we had one of these?
A young man wanders through the city streets, he'd glance over towards the entry to a large open-air mall and walk inside with a shrug. Nothing better to do right now. "Geez, been boring around here lately, hasn't it... No supervillains, no gods threating to destroy us all, not that I can complain but it feels like a calm before the storm or something." He can't shake that feeling, even as he looks around the peaceful area with various stores, clothing, restaurants, an arcade, all norm- wait no there's also a currently closed Armory with guns and varied melee weapons lining the walls. He's a bit shocked by that, but eh no issue. Instead, he simply leans back against a large tree standing in the center of the area, casually glancing around as he does so.
(Enters the mall looking around at the various shops and notices the man) Oh hello
a rather optimistic seeming woman would be strolling around the mall, seemingly distracted by every little thing that caught her eye. She wore a robe of sorts that extended down to her legs and on her back had what looked like a staff with a lamp on the end of it. What was even stranger about it was that the lamp was lit with an eerie green flame that seemed to fluctuate every time she saw something new to stare at. At her side was also a leather book pouch that would be dominating a sinister aura that seemed to grow sharper each time the girl got distracted, as if it was prodding her to focus in vain. "There's so much here. Can't we just go shopping for a little? It's been so long since I've been out."
He'd glance towards Mr. Detective for a moment. "Hiya Mr, name's Peter Parker. You new around here? Well either way, nice to meet ya I'm sure." Then there's the girl... The strangely dressed girl, with a weird lamp that emits green fire. And a leather book pouch, with a screwy aura or something? Oh lord what kind of magical crap is this, hopefully not the secret identity-crushing kind... Against his best judgment, he'd walk over to her and wave. "Hey, uh welcome to... Tokyo? I think this place is Tokyo it's a little unclear at times. Those are some interesting items and clothes you've got there, is it a cosplay or something or is that just normal where you're from? Uh, I'm Peter by the way." Smooth Pete, real smooth. Totally doesn't make you seem like a weirdo. Thank god Mr. Stark isn't here to laugh at this.
Nice to meet you too peter Parker (Puts on sunglasses) Now to scan the mall to see if anything is on sale
The woman would look over at Peter for a moment as if trying to process what he was asking. It seemed to take her a solid minute just to figure out that he was talking to her. "Oh, yeah, I don't remember where I got these clothes. They're all I have, it fine though. They never get dirty or anything. My lamp is always something I carry with me though. I need it for...why do I need it again? Well, it's nice and warm!" The book pouches aura once again spikes sharply startling the girl briefly. "Oh! Oh, right! I'm Lillian! What's this Tokyo thing you mentioned? I've never heard of it."
Huh... Okay so the book pouch seems to get worse rather quickly doesn't it, that is not inviting. "I see, well they're not bad or anything. Just a bit unusual. The lamp is... Gotta wonder why its green I guess, if I didn't know better I'd almost think magic or something!" Magic, yeah that's freaking real. What a far cry from when he used to be worrying about old dudes in vulture costumes. "And uh you, haven't heard of Tokyo Lillian? You must not be from around here, the biggest city in the county of Japan. Famous the world over actually, at least where I'm from." He'd pause for a moment, oddly able to ignore the book's aura for the most part. "Anyway, I guess if you're new around here I could uh try to show you around if you want. I mean I've been in the city for a few months so I know a little at least."
(Items on sale start appearing on the hud in mr.detectives sunglassess) 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 oh wait 15 items..........that I don’t need (Removes the items on his hud) Guess I better keep looking
Lillian would seem to smile as the book's aura finally began retracting back. "Magic! That was it, thank you for reminding me. Wait, what was the magic for?" As she pondered this she would reply to Peter's offer. "I can't, I'm looking for something important. If I don't find it then master will struggle much more to maintain us. Besides, master always knows where to go so I'll never be lost."
Magic. He just stares blankly at the girl for a moment. "Oh, you do magic. Of course, why am I not shocked by that anymore? I really shouldn't be but uh, long story short till a few months ago I didn't actually think magic was real." Something important to do huh, sounds like a real pain. He's really going to regret this next thing. "And if you're looking for something, I might be able to help? I mean I don't have any fancy magic but I know a thing or two. Not like I'm really doing anything at the moment either, been pretty quiet around here." Though knowing the Parker luck, the moment he says that is the moment something would explode.
(Mr.detective stops looking around as a the word in red DANGER blinks on his sunglasses hud) What?
The flame on the lamp would grow brighter for a moment as the girl seemed to grow more excited. "That would help a lot! Let's see, uh, wait, what was I looking for again. Master, could you explain it?" Finally, she would pull the book out of its pouch. The book was covered in what looked to be red reptilian scales and a bulge that soon opened up to be revealed to be and eye. Below the eye was also an indent that would begin opening to reveal a mouth with sharp teeth. The eyes began looking around the area as if in panic as the girl tried to open the book for Peter to look inside. The book however stubbornly stayed closed. The sinister aura from before would pulse around it once more almost scaring her enough to drop it but her hands stayed on it firmly as if protecting something important. "Master, why are you being so shy? He's a nice person, I'm sure."
Master... So the book is, her teacher? Or maybe... Well, whatever the case is the thing's weird as hell. But it hasn't attacked him and if anything the book almost seems scared of him? "Huh, so that book is alive. I kinda figured actually so that's no shock. But um, yeah I really don't wanna hurt you or anything. The uh, aura is a bit concerning but you haven't really done anything. Like I said, I'll help you out... If you'll tell me what you're looking for!" He is at this point rolling with it and speaking to the book, the seemingly living book with teeth and scales that has an aura of doom around it. But, it hasn't actually done anything so maybe you can't judge by the cover. Unless that's just an act. But he can handle problems down the road. "Uh, do you have a name. I mean besides Master obviously cause I'm not calling ya that."
(Starts looking around) Either this is a software update or....... (Looks at the woman talking to peter) Yup it’s another update (Starts downloading) With all these people from all over the nexus the system just can’t keep track of some of these people
The book looked for a moment at Peter as if assessing him. It was hard to tell exactly how it was feeling as its mouth could only smile but it seemingly decided to open on it's own accord. It quickly flipped open to a black blank page that seemed different from the rest of its content. Words began to appear on this page as if they were writing themselves. "You may refer to me as Tractus De Monstrum if you wish. I dont mind if you'd like to come up with a nickname or shorten that name, in fact, that might be for the better. I apologize for my lack of trust but you can never be sure if a witch might be nearby. Troublesome individuals who can manipulate magical entities such as I am. Anyway, I'll get to the point. I am seeking a substance known as Miasma. I have reason to believe its beginning to form in this world and that's a problem for your kind and a opportunity for mine. Miasma is highly concentrated mana, a substance I need to complete most basic tasks and one that is highly poisonous to humans when unfiltered." Lillian seemed to smile a little bit more seeing the Tractus De Monstrum open up to someone.
Miasma... Mana, magical crap isn't his main area, to say the least, but sure what the hell he can at least try. "Witches, right. Well, I can be pretty sure there are none here, I'm good at spotting danger before it becomes an issue usually." A nickname though, for a being that lives in a book. Hmm. "Anyways, yeah I'll just call ya Tract then. Rolls off the tongue a lot better. But, this Miasma of yours... I'm assuming it isn't easily defended against right? I uh, know a guy with some serious protective gear but I've learned not to assume even he can shrug off magic stuff." More like he is a guy, but no need to go around telling anyone that. "Besides that, I'll go on a limb and say you two don't have a cell phone right? Kinda hard to get in contact if I stumble across this Miasma stuff... Do you know what a phone is, come to think of it."
(Walks over to the group) I’ve got a phone, also what are you talking about (Looks at the book) Ain’t the first time I’ve seen stuff like this
The book would flip to another black page that seemed to appear out of nowhere. "No, I am not aware of most things within this dimension. I posses many objects of interest within my pages but this phone is a foreign concept to me." Lillian would chime in as soon as the letters finish forming. "I think I saw those on sale in that store over there. Wait, do they accept silver coins here?"
Silver coins... Actually in this weirdo town? "I think so? This city is uh, used to people from all over is one way of putting it. If not, I guess I can help with that at the worst, I know they'll take my money and hey silver isn't so bad. Kinda curious what you might have in those pages though, and if you'd happen to know anything about something called Nyx? Just idle curiosity really." He'd then glance towards... What is that guy's name? "Um, magic apparently. And I assumed you had a phone, high tech looking getup like yours should have one man. You got a name by the way, I kinda glossed over that when we spoke before."
I’m mr.detective sorry for not introducing myself before
Words would begin appearing the book once more. "Possibly, but I wouldnt take the risk of looking. Around 20% of my pages are storage and personal records. The other 80% would be forbidden secrets and cursed knowledge, even I'm not sure what's written there as only the original author would know and they say he stayed up for 6 days and nights to write it before dying on the spot. If you'd still like to take the risk feel free but I'd rather not have you go insane or lose your soul."
He stares at the man, just stares for a moment. Not even speaking at all... After a bit, he'd speak quickly in a casual tone laced with snark. "Oh, so did your parents name you that? Or is that the family name, I mean I can't really see why either would happen honestly. But hey, names do seem to get more silly the longer time goes on so I guess anything's possible!" He'd then glance back to the book, softspoken and calm again in a moment. A grimace forming on his face upon seeing those odds. "Ouch, I mean I like learning and all but uh I'm pretty fond of my sanity. And my soul, well actually I wasn't really sure I even had a soul or that they existed but I guess it adds up with everything else I've seen. Yay, timeless questions of the human condition in my world are being answered before my eyes..."
Well I can’t exactly give away my real name, it’s part of my job for some reason
(Glances At the book) I’ve heard of determined authors but dang I never heard of one that would work themselves to death
