He died offscreen, they after said he disappeared. Seeying as he's fan fav in Japan so he's probably alive (i kid you not in persona 5 mystery toys i bought there Akechi is the rarest one to find, they know what they're doing).

For me it's they have to redeem him right to bring him back, but I have nothing against him, I thought he was interesting.
