The Plague
The streets have been abandoned. Commerce, discussions, a simple and enjoyable stroll... None of that is possible. Humanity is no more. All that remains are the vestiges we built and the shuffling, hungry hordes that aimlessly roam the lands. You are Patient Zero. the first to have been turned into a man-eating creature. You look and act human enough at a glance, but three things will betray you: 1) All your bodily functions have ceased, meaning you don't breathe, you don't heal, you don't digest... In short, you are clinically dead. But despite this, you are still capable of thoughts and feelings. What you eat still fuels you with energy. You haven't lost your humanity, it just changed into something else. This means that, you will always end up being aware of the horrors you commit. 2) When any of your bodily fluids enter the body of another creature, they turn and become just like you. This transformation takes time however: 12 hours for a child. 24 hours for an adult. Once infected, they will slowly and inevitably turn. The symptoms that come up differ from one case to another, but they all end with the clinical death of the patient and their subsequent resurrection. 3) You feel such an intense and overwhelming hunger and craving for human, or at the very least humanoid flesh that nothing can stand in its way. Love, friendship, respect... They all fail when faced with such a primal craving for nourishment. And even when you eat your fill, even if you were to eat a whole town, you would soon begin to lose your mind again from the intense hunger that haunts you. Forcing yourself to resist this urge will cause you such intense pain that after 24 hours of fasting, or even by trying to eat substitutes, you simply lose your mind in an episode of insanity and eat whomever is closest. You, Patient Zero, the first person to answer to this thread, have already been turned and the hunger is already making itself felt throughout your body. To survive, you must eat, even if they are your friends, even if they are your family. -------------------------- Meta: Zombie thread! Patient zero starts as the first infected. Anyone else that posts after patient zero is clean. It's set in a nondescript modern city. Needless to say, if your character has powers or whatever, they can use them, even as an infected. I'm not gonna interfere or GM or anything like that. The thread is yours to have fun with, though if you have questions or want clarifications about the virus or anything, feel free to ask. Good luck surviving the apocalypse.
A lone woman walks along the city rooftops, observing the streets below. It was strange, the sound of howling that filled her ears, the lack of a heartbeat, yet she did not mind. Rather, it almost seemed as if it didn’t matter to her. There was only one thing, one need. For now, they prowl the city, waiting for the first scent of blood, a hint of wolves....
{The teenager sprints through the desolated streets, a barren wasteland she somehow feels used to, only for a little. Her clothes were noticeably more stained with blood as she tries to move away from anything that could be dangerous. She stops at a building nearby before collapsing, falling on her knees and crying, not caring about whether she was truly safe or not. The girl drops a red pistol that is supposed to be black next to her as she stays near the building, covering her sobbing face. Ashley sits down, almost unaware of her surroundings as she huddles up in the corner.}
A Samurai enters the city, armed with a regular sword and gun but possessing potent magical abilities and a gauntlet on his left arm capable of summoning several different demons. He tensely analyses the scene ahead of him. "So there are demons in this Tokyo too, huh? Of course... well, only one thing for it." Walter would patrol the streets for any potential threats as well as the closest entrance to an underground. However, a sobbing girl would cause him to stop in his tracks, the bloody appearance causing him to be more wary of the area around the girl if not the girl herself. From a reasonable distance, he looks around before shouting out to the sobbing female a simple phrase. "Hoi! Get up and explain to me what's going on."
{Ashley turns her head at the sudden appearance of Walter, her heart skipping a beat out of fear. She crawls out of her fetal position and turns around to look at him clearer, keeping her back at the building in hopes that she does not have to get any closer to the samurai.} "I-I don't know...I just got a bit...lost. Uhm..." {The girl stands up reluctantly, dusting off her skirt as she picks up her stained pistol and hides it behind her back. Her orange sleeveless sweater is tainted with stains of red. Ashley wipes the tears away from her eyes before looking at the man, putting her head down a little as she tries to formulate a serviceable sentence.} "There's supposed to be...well...it seems as if this city's infected...I never got to hear about it. It happened so suddenly..."
Walter solemnly ponders on the girl's words, cautiously checking his perimeter one last time before frowning while gazing at the red stains. "I see how it is. Have you come across any other survivors? If you do, tell them to find shelter underground. I'd suggest you do the same. I can handle the 'infestation'." He draws his generic sword, slashing through the air behind him and looking for any sign of a potential threat.
{Her brows furrow slightly when she hears that he'll be able to handle the infestation. "With only a sword? That's the only thing I see." "Anyone can, just outrun them, it probably isn't hard." She shakes her head at the thoughts of even trying to send a negative reply during a time like this. Plus they might get disproved later on.} "I'll...do my best...but where could I even start? The last people I saw that could have been counted as survivors got infected when I looked back while running away..." {Ashley gathers herself as she tries to backtrack her steps, getting nervous and tense the more she has to keep up this conversation. Her legs shuffle around, and she glances from side to side in hopes that none of those infected attempt to come near this area.}
The Samurai sighs, seeming slightly irate at the girl's uselessness. "Nothing for it, then. Only thing we can do is track these 'infected' down and kill every single on of them." He shrugs and then takes a few step away before waving. walking off and proceeding on the path he was on before, glancing at any alleyways or corners for survivors or anything inhuman.
as the pair walks through the city, they find the streets to be eerily empty. Nothing but the faint sound of the wind in the breeze and the howling of wolves. Every now and then they can feel something, like eyes staring into their souls, yet whenever they turn to see it, they find it to be nothing. Nothing more than the distant howling of wolves. Soon, the gorup come across an abandoned intersection, giving them a nice vantage point well away from the buildings if they so desire. And the wolves. Away from the wolves
Walter walks onto the intersection, assessing any points of damaged infrastructure or carnage which may've been caused by demons or berserk humans. He would attempt to investigate any nearby wreckage.
{Ashley follows behind, her legs shaking as she carries her pistol around. At every nook and cranny she turns back to try and find what might be her nerves acting up or something that's really following them. However, the girl can only stay silent whenever she hears the wolves howl in the distance. With Walter busy scavenging, Ashley tries to keep a close eye on anything behind them.}
Walter begins searching some of the nearby cars. There's evidence of a struggle, but whatever struggle there was was short-lived, a hint of blood on the edge of the door. Its almost suspiciously calm, as if the victim hardly had a chance to react. Ashley, on the other hand, keeps an eye out for danger. The streets remain suspiciously empty, yet she seems to see a flash of red passing by the edge of her vision. Yet, no matter how she chases it, it almost always seems to remain just out of sight. Out of sight, yet circling closer as the wolves howl.
The scene at the car would cause Walter some small concern, however, he would deduce that whatever caused it must've left the scene by now searching for fresh prey. Rather then investigate further, he turn towards Ashley and beckon her. "It's not safe here. You should stick to me while you still can."
{Ashley's eyes follow the flash of red with wary, her instincts make her body take several steps back in caution of the presence of something bad growing.} "I-It never was! They're already nearby, I sense it..." {She immediately tries to run back, hands clasped together and her eyes closed. The girl is keeping the pistol close to her instead of aimed at her foe, but there was a reason for this...} "Whoever you are, I know you're there. Go away!"
