I just name him after my own character because I'm unoriginal.

I call him Akira out of habit. However, in my P5 playthrough I went with Alias Fakename. Also shoutout to the stageplay which gave him a new name every time.

his official name is ren amamiya, but i never used that name in my playthroughs so to me he's just joker

- - - I usually call him Akira since it is what I have grown used to. In-game I simply named him after myself so I could shamelessly self insert. While I acknowledge his official name is Ren.... I simply do not like it. I pretend I do not see it. - - -

In my own time I switch between Protag, Akira, and Ren but in a post I would say Joker so neither side can fight me.

I am very glad people agree that ren mamamiyah is dumb and akira is the chad name, but i usually just call him joker out of habit

I dont think either names are official I just think that ren is the name they used for dancing and the anime and akira is the one they use in the manga I'm not sure that confirms either of them are official

Akira Kurusu. Ren Amamiya was designed for the Anime in particular, and was made as a play on words, for "Rain on the Palace". I get it. Doesn't stop me from not liking. Previous articles talked about how Akira Kurusu was a play on Protagonist and/or main character, but those articles have been long since covered by Google's search history, and I am not proficient in japanese to know how, or why, it's a play on words. I also think Akira just sounds badass

Yeah apparently the name akira means killer that's something I didn't expect to find when looking up the protagonist
