Does anyone else feel...a little bad for some of the Palace Rulers? Sure, you had the obvious pieces of shit, like Kamoshida, Kaneshiro and Shido.

Madarame and Okumara, however, were a bit sympathetic to me once we learned more about them.

Learning more about Madarame during Yusuke's link made me realize...he was once talented at one point and, he likely was trying to make his name known in the Art World during the 60's and 70's, based his age...which was a time that had a huge turning point in the way Art was looked out and treated, with people like Picasso and Warhol making everyone interested in Abstract art, a time period where no one wanted Japanese Style Art if it wasn't a woodcarving! Madarame had to make up for it by teaching...he got distorted by getting caught up in all the glamour and fame that he wanted, if only a little...and what artist of any form doesn't want to be recognized?

Okumara was sympathetic in a more personal sense than Madarame, the fact the his motivation and distortion came from a toy kit that he couldn't receive as a child, that fact that his family was plagued with financial issues growing up...it sort of hits home a little .'(

Sorry for the Wall O' Text, but I've been wanting to discuss this with someone other than my big bro for sometime!
If anything, persona 5 made me appreciate that behind almost every tragic victim of a criminal, abuser, or straight up asshole, is an equally sad story about how said perpetrator was driven to do such horrible things to start with. People like Madarame and Goro were driven by their own suffering, in one form or another, and ended up bringing it down on others because it. Yet nobody stopped them until they went too far.

Now that doesn't make their actions okay, but you'd think a better society would stop people from turning into monsters in the first place. Hell, a lot of the Mementos requests involve stopping people who would end up falling down a similar path were it not for the thieves intervention. Which is pretty sad.
I understand and appreciate the villains of 5 but truly the only one I have sympathy for is Okumura
On a related note, if you haven't seen KingK's video on Persona 5 I recommend it. It's really good and kinda eye-opening, at least to me.
I didn't really think much about Okumura until I saw that video.
You hate them at first, but once they have a change of heart you really feel bad for them, Hell I even felt sympathetic for Shido. That's why I love the game so much, it represents the tragedy of life so well and how nothing is truly just black or white, how even a ruthless tyrant like Shido could be a good person at one time.
I like P5 because it's not a story about stopping society from screwing up, it's fixing what's already happened. It's fixing what was already lost.
No. There's a million other people who had it rough and didnt start being huge pieces of shit because of it.
@-Kanji- Well of course there are...but we're talking about Fictional characters that, no matter how deep, they have depth based on what the writer wrote for them. Real people are obviously going to have more going for them, but this Thread isn't about real people, its about characters in the game :/
All right. Most/all of your confidants also have it rough and none of them are huge pieces of shit because of it.
