A Summer Coding Project: Building the MetaNav
Last night, I was involved in a thread discussing developing a simple phone app as a sort of homage to the MetaNav. All we knew for sure is that it would use the MetaNav icons and voice clips, as a sort of gimmicky fun thing. I want to know what the community thinks might be a good idea for its legit functionality. I have some ideas, regarding maybe a on device only organization note-like app, but I want to know what you guys think. Please keep this thread clean and serious. I will be using java with eclipse for my work. Please keep ideas relatively basic.
Make it a roleplay app that allows me to meet up with other super nerds
I think this idea has already been said but maybe just a soundboard of sorts for Persona 5.
@imtherealklib is the source of the inspiration, so please thank him and give him a shoutout. I wouldn't be attempting this if it was not for his interest in starting and undertaking this project.
I'll be sure to thank them next time I see them around.
I like the idea for a soundboard.
Other ideas could maybe be a sort of mini-game? Or augmented reality like someone else said. Possibly a mix of both.
Maybe there could be a function where a user could add a "Palace" to it, with a place, a person, and a keyword, it would go through approval (to make sure people wouldn't put figures or that could actually get you into government trouble, or trouble in general), and it could possibly be used as a way to find persona fans in your area?
That's a really good idea!
Simple my friends. Simple. Stuff like that is incredibly complicated to code. I am by no means a pro.
In that case either soundboard or a little mini-game would be best. If you need help with stuff, add me on FB and message me. The link is in my About section
A soundboard would be the best way of going about it, at least for the early stages imo
Agreed. A soundboard would be the best way to get it off the ground. And I wouldn't say I was the source of the inspiration, just the first one to express interest in making an attempt. Thank you though. :)
I have a rip of every voice clip in persona 5 (unlabelled, sadly) I can upload if you want to make a soundboard. Tomorrow though. I need to sleep right now.
Sounds good, I'll be able to go through and label them. It lets me listen to Futabae all night! :3
I believe I was the one who recommended a soundboard, because someone just wanted it to be able to say "Returning to the real world" or something lol
Zip
My idea is a real, functioning GPS. But you can bookmark destinations as Palaces and stuff like that. And saying a name, place and distortion brings up a GPS route to that bookmarked Palace.
I spent 2 hours trying to dig up my old App Inventor login only for this thread to pop up. Anyway, I had a few ideas.

-Three text boxes , one for a name, one for a location, and one for a distortion. If they all line up right, then a TTS will say candidate found or something. I was going to add the canon ones, as well as a few Phansite easter eggs.

-Using a TTS to say things, not the ingame voice. If I recall correctly, there's no voiced lines for anything other than "No candidate found" and "candidate found", so using a third-party TTS will have to do.

-Sound effects and overall Persona 5 pizazz
@-Labrys- @Yu-Narukami what about a Amino App which I heard it is a good idea to make a community like the Phantom Thieves and our followers
Bump.

I have a working "login" screen that is currently unstylized. I ended up moving over to Android Studio 2.3.1 because Eclipse was giving me sooooo much sass. I'm unsure as to how to code a sound board honestly. Any guidance or collaboration would be much appreciated. I'll start uploading and linking the project thus far somewhere...
Any sort of graphic that upon tapping (clicking) will call a function to play sound clip X
Bump

I've untangled my code and it's slightly more efficient? I have it set up so you input a name and place. If the input matches, it says "candidate found" and allows you to input a distortion. It will then tell you if the distortion is correct or not. If it matches, it will enter the user into the core app, which will be the sound board. I'm going to add all of the cannon targets and such, and I like the idea of phansite easter eggs. How does everyone feel about that? The "login" system I mean. I know I'm the one doing the code, but I consider this to very much be an effort from all of us, so I really do want your input!
I think it's pretty god damn stellar!
Make sure the release date is hidden...

Cus you'll never see it coming that way
Eyyyyyyyy
Someone get this guy a medal!

Screen shots of progress thus far. I've only coded in Kamoshida at this point in time. It's hella hella basic in terms of looks I know. I'm more focused on functionality first. Input is NOT case sensitive. used the toLowerCase() method to make the comparison easier.

Literally as artsy as I'd be able to do, so function > fashion for me
Persona 5 GO? :3
Since I can't post links with hash symbols in them I put a ddl to the sound rip here https://pastebin.com/aNJcWiBK
Bump.

Login now works with all cannon palaces from P5. So many if statements...
I'll probably finish mine since I've already started. It'll be very simple, but it should at least hold people over until yours is done.
Sounds good to me. I'm just doing infrastructure right now. I haven't even started on assets...
Good luck buddy
Might be too late for this suggestion but a phansite app might be nice
@-Labrys- What programming language are you using for that?
@Mishima I'm using Java inside of Android Studio 2.3.1.

@ChairKun I've considered that. There seems to be a strong demand for a soundboard first though; but I will add a link in the app to the phansite main page I think.
@-Labrys- Whenever I was in Comp Sci, I used to have dreams/nightmares of ungodly amounts of "if" statements...so uh...don't die..
Bump.

Okay. I gave in and added some prototype assets to the app. That's where most of my time went today: making the assets. The link below is strung together screen caps of what I have so far using Kamoshida as an example entry. I've made a few minor changes since these screengrabs, but its' basically the same. I'm gonna start coding the core app tonight and tomorrow.
Link is between the *s to avoid it trying to upload it.

Seriously though looks good for only working on this for a couple days.
Love it, you got the app making touch, my ghost just lives in my backpack
Agreed, you're rocking it!
I'm trying my best. And yeah, I'm in comp sci right now. My final exam is Tuesday. I've literally only been coding in Java for a semester. Like 6 months. And I only learned my first language a year ago; which was MatLab. I've been referencing my textbook for anything I'm not familiar with, like setOnClickListener().
Bump.

I'm to the point where I will need the sound bites everyone wants in the app. The provided sound bank is enormous and from the Japanese game. I think we need to shrink the bank size personally.
This is looking great Labrys! loving the progress so far!
What sound bytes are a must? I have to assign each sound to a button, each sound file must be in the app's assets folder, contributing to the size of the app, and there are over 400 sound clips in the provided library. It includes Japanese voice clips and interaction sounds and such. It HAS to be cut down. I am not making 400 plus buttons in a scollview hahahaha. And it'd just be too big.
hmmm language editions maybe? split them off into english and japanese?
i can see it now, "Persona GO"
I labelled some of the usable sounds like the phone tones, the social stat jingles and the dagger sound from the calendar animation
Wouldn't it be helpful to generally sort them into categories? Like social quotes, battle quotes etc? Dunno what else you got in that library.
I always find it horrible when I use soundboards, that there is hundreds of buttons, no way to, like, hide a few of them or something.
Having a sidebar with categories that they are sorted into would be so nice sometimes.
I agree with that and it is my intention have said functionality. But the issue still becomes _size_.
