SMT Imagine 2: Electric Boogaloo

The old thread lacked quite a bit of information, so it's time to make a new one. First off, I should clarify what SMT Imagine is for the uninformed. It was an official MMORPG set after SMT 1 but before SMT 2. It has typical mainline SMT elements like demons, the world ending, alignments, etc.

It only lasted for a few years over in the west, but it only shut down in Japan last year. Thankfully for us, there's a chinese private server being run, and you can use the old english launcher to access it, fully localized. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do that:

1. Register your account at this link, some have said your username and password need to be entirely numbers, but mine aren't, so see what works for you: http://imagine.acg7.com/

2. Download the chinese client here, and don't sweat the binary data. https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/0B-N4sj9SPl5kZVRPRnlIeWtWczg

3.Install the old english client here, but don't launch it once it's installed. https://gamefront.online/files/service/thankyou?id=13323597

4. Take the files from the root folder from the chinese client and move them to the american folder, do NOT move the applications or folders, just do what this screenshot Hibiki provided shows: Click to load png image (size - 40 kb)

5. Launch the Imagine client and it should work fine, now just log in and you'll be ready to play.

Hope this helped those of you who were confused, these steps should work right, just let me know if anything goes haywire.

I'll consider joining in a while. I actually have some fond memories in that game when I played it with my friend.

I think the best was getting yelled at in dungeons because I wouldn't stop swearing and I guess my party members were babies but at the same time I was carrying them so I held their lives in my hands. Any who complained about my swears were swiftly killed.

No I get an error message saying "another update process is work in progress" and I have no idea what it is trying to say. Engrish is fantastic.

I thought that maybe it meant I have it open or something already however I checked and there is not anything running in the background that relates to it.

I have a few questions though. How should ability points be distributed? Also, is there any way to dash in this game? The movement's a bit slow for me.

Ability points depend on the build you want.
I suggest reading these pages on the wiki as soon as you can to decide on a build early, to prevent fucking yourself in the long run. And no, the speed you move at is the one you always move at, however you can get a mount later in the game which is a bit better

That's what I was thinking too, but I'm reading more of the wiki Gunners and Synthers look really interesting. Too bad there's only one world, otherwise I'd probably try out different classes on other worlds.

Do as you please honestly. Most people seem to gravitate towards being Mages but Imagine doesn't really have defined classes, and investing in certain skills basically results in crossclassing
Like I'm mostly a gun user but I took magic and some other stuff so I can basically cast spells on myself to increase bullet damage or create Poison Bullets or make it so every shot i make is equivalent to a Garu spell
there's also some Expertise like the one Mona I think is doing? which basically makes them a Fighter/Mage

Any tips for someone trying to be a gunner build? I know I should put points into magic and agility, but anything else?

Speed is the most important for a Gunner. But if you're going for a Gunner build I recommend Sharpshooter or Magic Bullet. You CAN do both but because of the way guns work, one won't be as effective.

I'm a Sharpshooter personally, if you go this way, you can activate certain passive skills to deal more damage to certain Demon classes at the risk of taking more damage, and you'll want a rifle for this build.
Magic Bullet is pretty self explanatory, you can learn to imbue bullets with magic properties like poison or spells, I did learn this but I don't use this much. If you go this way you'll want to also invest in Magic and Intelligence, and use a pistol

Also make sure to buy the bullets that cost 2 Macca each. I don't know why but there are bullets that cost 1 Macca and 2 Macca. The only difference is 1 Macca bullets stack up to 99, and 2 Macca bullets stack up to 300, so it's just more efficient.

I have joined the chinese server in the past. The vast distance between me and the server is a big issue to overcome.

Luckily there's still a fully English private server in the works. Quietly waiting for the day it is ready for testing.

They're translating the very last version of the Japanese server to come out for use in the English client, so yes it will.

It should be noted that it won't be a server, just a client you may use to run one.

They're basically making everything about the game except for the actual server. It's entirely possible you could play it solo, but we don't have a ton of info yet.

You can learn both you know. There is enough Mastery points to be pretty lenient and not as focused. If you're training Shot and Destruction Magic you can learn Magic Bullet as well.

Just remember Mastery points are limited, but not so much that you need to feel super restricted. It's expensive but you can also purchase items to remove Classes in Masteries to get the points back, and you do gain more Mastery points at certain milestones. I wanna say every ten levels you get more, I could be wrong though. I know you get some more during some like important quests though.

I'm more worried on how to spend my attribute points. Most of the guides I found online were min/max for a specific class, like putting everything into speed for a gunner, so I'm afraid I'll screw up if I spread my attribute points if I end up going for being both magic and gunner.

And I didn't know that there were items that could roll back masteries! That's relieving to hear, I kinda screwed up on my first day by forgetting to stop the Attack growth after the tutorial... Hopefully I'll get more max mastery points too, I've already used up close to 1/3 of it.

Attribute points are nice but don't worry about completely fucking it up. I actually try to keep my stats somewhat balanced, just in case I need to do something solo (also min/maxing is cheap as shit and I hate it). Like for my main physical fighter. Strength and Vitality take priority but all the other stats are at about 20-30% of what my Strength and Vitality are.

I've started using my attribute points! So far I have 9 on Mag, 6 on Vit, 9 on Int, and 26 on Speed. I think I'm gonna go for 10 on Mag, Vit, and Int, then 30 Speed before starting with Luck!

I've also been wandering around for plasmas and ended up in the City of Arcadia... at level 19. Does anyone know what donating macca to the devout messian do? I gave 1,000 but nothing seemed to have happened...

Thanks for the update, though technically the project is not for a private server. They're translating the game and stuff, but not actually putting up a server from what I've read.
