Which should I get? Birthright of Conquest?
Personally, I'd start with FE Blazing Sword for GBA or Awakening for 3DS. The FE Fates games aren't designed to be the first games you play.
Favorite free games out there?
A good free game I would recommend is Yume Nikki, though it may be a bit confusing. Other than that, I would say anything on http://vgperson.com/games/
