Hey guys, I gotta confess something...
PART 1
In recent weeks, I've been on the receiving end of criticism for how I act in RPs. Some points of criticism range from godmodding to misreading the context of a scenario to going overboard with my actions. Last night, this all came to a head when I started a beef with an RPer over a joke he made while in character. Others have voiced their concern via PMs over why I take role-playing on the Phansite too far. I feel like I can't grow as a successful RPer if I don't reflect on what I've been doing wrong this whole time, so here's a long-ass confession. Hope you've got the patience for this. It all goes back to my freshman year of high school. Back then, I had an iPad with an external keyboard that I used to take notes in class as per a set of educational accommodations. However, I also used that iPad to write stories in my free time; fanfictions with a diverse set of OC's, from a Minecraft YouTuber with a connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a Pokémon trainer with superpowers that acts like a Velvet Room attendant. Around that time, I was also experimenting with storytelling via the Wii U version of Disney Infinity 2.0 & 3.0, collaborating with Miiverse users somewhat younger than myself to help bring those stories to life. Even outside of Disney Infinity, I was trying my hand at roleplaying as well as GMing within Miiverse. However, the RP's that I participated in and even attempted to co-GM were incredibly short-lived, and I couldn't see eye-to-eye with my collaborators on occasion. Before I knew it, the fall of Miiverse came around, so I was forced to abandon roleplaying on Miiverse entirely and go back to writing fanfics on my iPad.
PART 2
I discovered Persona 5 last June when I was searching YouTube for other people's reactions to Metroid Prime 4 (specifically the E3 announcement last year) and happened across a random YouTuber's P5 streams. I got curious about the game, so I looked up LP's and saw a comment with a link to the Phansite, particularly the main page with the anonymous chat. It took me a while to gain interest in the forums, but what motivated me to sign up was the RP arc surrounding the GYM threads "Pancake Justice" and "A Ghastly Appearance." Deep down, I refused to let the story end after the latter thread, so I created this account and assumed the role of a Persona-user determined to save Pancake Knight and apprehend his killer at all costs. Prior to registering, I drafted several scenarios for my RP series and picked out which characters on the forum would be a good fit on the main cast. You may recall my first thread regarding this (https://phansite.net/forum/topic.php?topic=14235); it was the first thread I posted on the site. Some time later, I partook in a dungeon RP. However, due to my lack of experience RPing on Miiverse (if not RPing in general), I ended up "godmodding." At first, I had though I gave it up when Miiverse ended, but it seems that was not the case. Matters worsened when I took part in a Last Post Wins and a certain user (you know DAMN WELL who you are) called me out on and berated me for it. His harassment got under my skin, which led me to develop a "godmodding complex." However, it seems that wasn't the only issue. I misread the context of another RP and got kicked out of it; even worse, the GM cut their ties with me after I admitted I didn't understand the context of the thread and asked him to roll with it via PMs. I've even created an audition thread with a link to a Google Form, which I'll admit it was overkill, and I won't do it again. Possibly the worst thing I have done on this site was not separating myself from my character, thus taking my role in an RP (and other people's jokes directed at me) too seriously. I also realize how my strict style of GMing can discourage others from participating in my RP's.
PART 3
I'd like to deeply apologize to those I have wronged in RP's. I deserve every bit of shade you all have been throwing at me, but I'm not sure if I should go as far as to say that I don't deserve to be an RPer or a GM on this site– or any site for that matter. And there you have it. These are the reasons why I'm absolute GARBAGE at roleplaying on the Phansite. To be honest, this stirred up a lot of emotion inside, especially today when my mind is completely fucked up for one reason or another. I just felt the need to get this out so you all would hopefully understand my perspective. In the time it took me to get this out there, I used up a dozen tissues and drank two bottles of water. Yeah, that's how bad I feel for all the wrong things that I've done. I'm gonna take a break from the site to gather myself, and when I come back, I'll try my best to be a better person here. With that said, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read my confession. I'll see you all soon!
Well then, I think your issue's fairly simple then. So far you've pretty much only been a GM, the one writing the stories and thus with ultimate control of where they go, but roleplaying is more about acting, like in a theater class, than it is about just writing, in that you merely get in-character and respond to a circumstance, rather than trying to direct the flow around you. In other words, don't think "what would be cool/best to happen right now." Think "What would my character do in this situation", and focus solely on your own role, regardless of that of others
If I may, I'm glad you took the time to take a look back on anything you've done and I'd like to say that despite some of the other issues most agree that your ability to write isn't bad. Mostly, for when you come back, I hope that you attempt to craft a plot of your own as I'd like to see what you can do as a GM without trying to expand upon other's plots. My main point is, it'd be a shame if you gave up altogether so I hope you do end up coming back and aren't discouraged by all that has happened.
I also forgot to mention that, yes, I have taken part in summer theater camps since the second grade up to my senior year or high school and even did work for my high school's drama guild stage crew, so I suppose I've been conditioned to that sort of structure.
Ah, I see. Based on your actions, I figured you were a writer over a rper. That also kind of clears up why you were grabbing the PK plot by the horns or... something. Whatever the expression, it's nice that you enjoyed the plot, but you didn't really understand the basics of rp at the time: it's a story told by many people, not just one (save for GMs, but that's another matter entirely). Either way, hope you come back. A few mistakes are fixable, and all of us make them. If you need advice on how to rp, I suggest looking at some other roleplays both here and on other sites. Best of luck, Cait
Well, as Rasa was saying, Role Playing is more about improv than a pre-set story. Sometimes there is a certain intended progression in RP that a GM has in mind but for the most part, I've often seen it be said that the most important aspect of Role Playing is to adapt to the given situation even if it's not necessarily what you want for your character or character arc.
...Well, seeing as that you looked back at stuff...I guess I was a bit too savage there with my first comment on you... I mean...I thought you were being a bit totalitarianistic at first...but apparently...I was the one that somewhat started it... With all of that said, I'd like to formally apologize for my dumbassery... But hey, at least you learned. Hopefully, this site will forgive you too.
Just like to drop my opinion! What everyone has said so far is true, however, RP is more then simply writing a scenario, you can think of RP as multiple people coming together to chip in ideas and pieces to create a beautiful adventure where everyone can shine. In most threads everyone is an equal capable of anything (within reason). That is what makes it exciting, liberating and fantastic. The only person that is above the RPers however is a GM, and it is very misleading to say that they control the story in my opinion, players are unpredictable and will almost never do what you expect them to do. So for me personally, a GM should create an environment that has a problem, whether it be a villain or getting something, give the players a reason to accomplish said thing, then let go of the reigns and to respond to the players. This is a key point. Having the players respond, then having the GM react, then respond, then the players will respond, rinse and repeat. This does not mean that rules cannot be established. But rules that restrict the players severely will make it very unappealing, like filling roles, (IE we need a navigator, tank, and dps), restricting types pf characters (We cannot have people that see the future) and finally player minimums are somewhat daunting, but not the worst. Another thing I would like to add. Jumping into plots are fine, unless it is a continuation thread and you had to be there in the previous thread or it's been a little while you should ask. But do not take control away from GMs or Players. Wanting to contribute to PK's death is completely fine. However, appointing yourself was a wrong move. But we can all make amends. One final point, you generally get better with experience, if you want to get better at Phansite RP, try lurking in RP threads and sussing out things that people do that you can incorporate. Or you can try to play an established persona character so you do not accidentally GodMode with an out of proportion character. Generally Persona Characters have defined personalities through the game and neat personas so I recommend one to start off, just an opinion though! Wow I really went off on a tangent, my bad! Anyhow! Let's finish on a positive note! Your writing is fantastic for a beginner here! You just need to learn that you are RPing and not writing. To reinstate points already said, you assume the role of one character, that character alone cannot dictate the story, but working together with other characters can change the story and hopefully with the GM create a brilliant thread! I hope to see the new and improved Rosie soon! If you ever need advice or anything my discord door is open! rexofired#6602 Feel free to add me and ask questions!
The only person that is above the RPers however is a GM, and it is very misleading to say that they control the story in my opinion, players are unpredictable and will almost never do what you expect them to do. Very true, in my last (organized with a rulebook) rp, we were supposed to cross a road, but we ended up stealing a car instead and nearly drowning. Did I mention we're all cats in this rp?

I do sorta understand and I hope you can improve but I have one gripe... A so-on-so "godmodding complex" doesn't exist. I feel like you're blaming something you do on someone else so you don't have to take the blame for it. Other than that I understand.
I feel like a break is just what you need. When I was a new RPer, I also had a bit of a godmodding complex. I took a break for a while, and now I don't godmod anymore, unless it's for a meme or something. So you do you.
I made mistakes, you made mistakes. I'm kinda sorry if being an ass made you uncomfortable. Point is, you can get better. And frankly, I hope you do because your plots do sound like they'd be interesting. Which is weird considering stuff that comes out of Miiverse usuallys ends up being hilarious for the wrong reasons.
