Everyone's experience with SMT?
I was reading through the forums and I started thinking "Just how much experience has everyone had with the franchise as a whole?" It could include games from the mainline, persona, etc. I'm just kinda curious as to how we all found it and why we like it as well.

As for me, I've been playing SMT for around 6 years, starting with Devil survivor. I own most of them and have beaten most of them except for Digital devil saga 2, the Raidou series, P2: Eternal punishment, and Strange Journey. Personally I think my favorite thing about it is the symbolism surrounding it as well many of the ideals it embodies.
Kind of a generic answer, but oh well.
I played that online SMT game while it was still going. I was a floating camo afro man.

I have also tried a few other games but I have been beat into submission and I just lay down and cry after playing for a bit usually.

I am terrible at remembering game titles so I am not exactly sure which they were.
I walked into GameStop, and saw Devil Survivor: Overclocked, and thought the artwork was neat.
I didn't realize that was the moment I would form a new addiction.

From there, I downloaded Persona 3 Portable, and wrecked that game.
I went on to Strange Journey, and actually did not like it. I'm not a fan of First Person grid based movement, and the combat was intense. It wasn't anythought I couldnt' get over, but the story, setting, and gameplay all failed horribly to draw me in.

After that, I found Nocturne in a bargin bin, and went home.
Got about 4 hours in and quit. As the above, the setting, lack of navigation, and theme all bored me to tears. I honestly had a hard time understanding why people were raving about this game (even to this day). The battle system was grand, and I like the mitama ingesting, but eh. I couldn't get into it.

Later I got to play Persona 2 Innocent Sin, and really fell in love with that.

Devil Summoner 2 was next on my list, and I got about 3 hours in before I quit. Transforming into demons was fun, but it actually bored me. It felt like half a game, between the story, the level design, and the pacing.

MegaTen Online was thrown in the mix somewhere during my spree of the above, and I fell in love with that.

Deil Survivor 2 released not long later, and that was a game I obsessed with.

Persona 4 Golden was one of the reasons I picked up a vita. Hated the game, loved the vita. Still slaughtered P4G.

Currently, I have Persona 2 Eternal Punishment bought and downloaded this morning, so I plan on playign that here in the near future.

I really wanna pick up SMT 4, but I'm hesitant. The other deserted apocolypse settings really didn't do it for me and I'm getting the same vibe from it.
tho i do plan to play some SMT games in the future, for now i haven't played much at all. a bit of persona 1, if it even counts... and the first 15 or so hours of both Devil Survivor 1 and 2, which... i know isn't very far in ;;; I blame it on the fact that i'm decent when it comes to the turn based battles, but terrible at the grid-based strategy/tactics part of things. I'll finish them both someday...! And hopefully get into the main SMT series eventually too!

For now tho, i'm just binging on Persona~ (and, off topic, waiting impatiently for etrian odyssey v, plz atlusUS gib eo5...)
It's been about 6-7 years I believe? I forget exactly how I came across it, but I came across a mysterious game called Persona 3. Watched a lot of videos about it on YouTube, until I finally got my hands on it because I found it on sale on the PSN, for $5! So I got it. After that I got my hands on Persona 4, and found out more about the franchise, soon picking up several other games in the series.
At this current moment in time I own:
Persona 1-5 and Q, Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga.
I have finished all of those except Nocturne, as well as playing SMT 1 and 2, and the first Raidou game via emulation.
For a brief moment in time I also played SMT Imagine via a private server, but fell off of it around level 25. If there is still a server up, maybe we could all get back into it?
People have been working on making an English server from the ground up. No micro transactions or anything like that. It's not done yet though, so most people are playing on the Chinese private server, even though it's a bit outdated.

Also as for what Joker said about strange Journey, I remember having trouble getting into it when I first picked it up as well. Although I've found myself enjoying it a lot more now, I've still never finished it because of one single dungeon that might as well just be one endless maze.. Hopefully they fix that type of shit in the remake. Most likely not, but we can hope.
I played SJ and enjoyed it a lot, but I never beat it either. But that's only because the final boss on Neutral is the dumbest thing in all of SMT.
4 years now. I got vanilla P3 on PS2 for cheap and loved it. From there, I played Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Eternal Punishment, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, SMTIII: Nocturne, Arena, Ultimax and SMTIV in that order. (P5 is the latest)

I'm aware there's many more, but hard to find and limited cash are factors. One day I want to have everything, for sure.

P5 is my favorite game I can say, closely followed by P3P and SMTIV.

Also, I will say SMTIV is a different experience from Nocturne, as someone who completed both. It's worth a try, and the story is one of the best I have ever seen in any game
Yeah the Chinese private server is what I mostly played.
I played Imagine on the Japanese server for a while, because by the time I found out about it the American servers were long dead. Unfortunately I didn't play long before the Japanese servers shut down either.
I heard the Chinese server was outdated but it never bothered me since I had never played much of the full thing before it died.
Still, if the Chinese server is still up maybe it would be worth playing more of it. Wonder how long the English server will take before it's somewhat playable.
I´m in the beggining of SMT IV. I never played SMT before.
If you look up SMT Imagine I'm pretty sure the forum post about it should be one of the first things to come up. They even have a link to the discord where they post updates on it as well as talk about Imagine in general. (they also have a Mara bot that finds NSFW pictures for you, so that's pretty neat)
First one I played was Persona 4 golden on vita and now Persona 5 :P I have zero expierirnce with the mainline SMT series xD
I haven't played the SMT games before Persona 3 cause I was a sheltered pleb, but I have plans to go through the series proper in due time.
My first game was SMT: Digital Devil Saga on ps2
I actually started with devil survivor 2, then Persona 3-5 and also Smt nocturne in between. And I must say I loved nocturne so much. Glad that recruitment and other features returned in Persona 5.
