Alone (original short story)
I was born like everyone else. That's what my mother said anyway. But somehow I always felt like I was different.

My life wasn't too unusual. School, parents, friends... Well, not many friends, actually. I was strange and hard to talk to.

I had one friend. Ai. She was nice to me and always liked to talk to me. I always thought she was too good to associate with a girl like me. I asked her why she associated with me, and she said, "Because you're special. You're like me. Don't worry; I won't ever leave you."

I was touched by her words. I stopped seeing her for awhile after a couple of years.

Strange things were happening. When I turned 17, everyone started to disappear. Not just people I know, people I never talked to or seen before. The population of the world was disappearing before my eyes.

I tried to talk to people about this, but they acted like I was crazy. They said that nobody was disappearing. But they were.

Weeks turned to months. Eventually, everyone I knew, my classmates, acquaintances, family, even my parents disappeared.  And soon the streets were empty.

(Continued to next post)
With nothing to lose, I traveled the empty world with nobody but me in it. At first it seemed nice, but it turned to loneliness. I wanted someone, anyone beside me, but I never found anyone in any town, city, mountain or forest.

I returned to my city and broke down in tears. I was at my limit. I was truly alone in this world.

But then I look up and see her. Ai. The girl who was always kind to me. Her smile cannot be a hallucination.

I cry in front of her eyes. "Are you going to disappear too?" I ask.

"No. I said I would never leave you. We promised." She walks up to me and embraces me. I can no longer hold back my tears as I hold her close. She smiles.

"We're alone in this world now... But that just means we can go anywhere. This world is our own to explore." She releases me as she speaks.

I smile and hold her hands, her fingers intertwined with mine.

"Do you promise you won't disappear?" I have to ask again. She giggles, and with an expression none could ever lie with...

"I will always be with you."

With those words of assurance, she leads me by the hand out of the empty city.

We're alone, but we're  together.

We can go anywhere and do anything, as long as we have each other.
Edginess levels are overloading actually it's over 9000
Wow, sounds interesting, don't you have a wordpress account or a blog where I could read the full thing?
Pancake Knight is touched by your story.
This is equal parts sad, beautiful, and unnerving.
Wait, it ends like that? what happens next?
I love it!
I love it too! I have many mixed feelings. It is thrilling, sad, captivating.
@Eren_Yeager
I know right. I can only dream of being as edgy as My Immortal though.

@YAHKED
That's it, actually. It was meant to be short, as the title suggests. Thank you though.

@Pancake_Knight @Imtherealklib
Thank you both very much.
Mhm mhm. I love it so much. My heartstrings!
We want more!
I like the fact that it leaves a lot unanswered and lets you try and deduce the reason for the population disappearing and why those two were the only ones left.
wow..... I cried, like actually...

Your a super great writer bb <3
@imtherealklib AGREE!
Either way, I hope to see more of your work in the future.
I wish I had seen this earlier. It was a nice little short story. You're writing is a touch rough, but I think if I see more of your work I'll like your style. This leaves a good first impression so if you plan to post more stories here I'm waiting eagerly to see what you can do.
