Net Neutrality is important for all internet users, including us.
I know it may be somewhat off topic, but this affects all of us. You may have also heard about this from other websites such as Reddit or Amazon. Congress is threatening to abolish the internet's Net Neutrality protection. Effectively, this would mean that Internet Service Providers would be able to treat websites differently from each other. Let us use this website as an example. If Net Neutrality was abolished, an ISP such as Comcast would be legally allowed to restrict access to this site. Such access would only be granted through something such as a "forum package" on top of your standard Internet service package. This is but one example of the many ways ISPs could restrict your access and your free speech. The abolishing of Net Neutrality goes against everything the Internet stands for, a free and open space where ideas are never restricted. The abolishing of Net Neutrality hurts all consumers and only helps the CEOs of ISP companies. The abolishing of Net Neutrality further restricts your free speech, taking away the voice that the Internet gives us. There are many other sources that can explain this topic in far greater detail than I can, and I suggest that anyone reading this go out and research the topic, because it does affect you. If Net Neutrality is abolished, the free internet is gone.

Why everyone ignores this
Well shit
No more hentai for us then
No more Phansite. Which is much worse.
EVERYONE READ THIS
bump
the odds of this affecting the phansite specifically is practically none since it wouldn't be on most ISP's radars. But its still a good thing to be aware of.
BUMPITUP
B U M P: Looks like the people up in Congress need a change of heart! For real though, I feel as if not many people are aware of just how much of a threat this is
What, they're threatening that AGAIN?
This thread needs to be bumped more.
More bumping means this thread will achieve Survival.

NED will be proud. Carry on children of Survival.
Net Neutrality has also reached Survival.

So worry not.

NED will protect you all.
I'm actually quite sick of this war to save Net Neutrality.

Here's the kicker, this act to "save the internet" as actually not helping us. It hurt a lot of us consumers in many ways.

Now, before someone here gets triggered by the above line, let me preface this real quick: I support the idea of equal access to the internet.
What I do not support is what the current version of Net Neutrality is doing.

A lot of you are still young, so I can't fault you for not knowing better in some of these situations. Net Neutrality was not around for all that long of a time, and the internet worked just fine without it.

I suppose I should go over what Net Neutrality actually is, and what it's really doing to drive my point home:
**** What is Net Neutrality?
Net Neutrality is an acted designed by the Obama era administration to try and keep ISP's like Comcast from holding data hostage, and creating a "VIP" lane for speed. Very few ISPs were trying to tell places like Netflix that they had to pay higher rates, or their customers would have a harder time connecting to Netflix (and other sites) because they are kinda dickbags like that.

*** Well, that's all well and good, so what's the rub?
The Government removed control from *everyone*. They no longer have the rights to throttle data usage if it means preserving their servers, or maintaining stability. So in turn, because a few ISPs were being assholes, EVERYONE got punished, and everyone was forced to either upgrade past their budget, or suffer customers not using their unstable services.

So what happened to counteract this, all ISPs removed "Unlimited Data Plans" (The true ones, not the 'burn 10gb a month then get dialup speeds' unlimited) and then they throttled everyone into that slow lane that people were so afraid of. Except now there is no "VIP fast lane". They also raised their money rates to make more of a profit at the same time.

*** So Joker, what do you think should have happened instead?
Simple. Fine the shit out of Comcast, Verison, and the very few other companies that were pulling the hostage card to the point that it would have been more profitable to play nice. I'm one of the many who lost out on a real data plan, and now paying considerably more, because of it.

TL;DR-
A few people were dickbags, now everyone has slower internet, higher monthly bills, and data caps to compensate a loss of their own control, and now there is a fear mongering campaign being pulled to make you forget about the better times.
It's very enlightening to see some more background information on this subject brought up. Knowledge is power, and knowing more about the then and now helps people make informed decisions.
Very informative as always, Joker! It's best to see both sides of the issue in cases like this.
Indeed. Honestly, this is all bullshit. It was completely fine. No wonder I don't like other human beings irl. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
