Well demons are pretty rare here mostly. See in this world most people don't even know magic is real. Guys like me try to keep those idiots from getting killed for it.

As for what a Persona is think of them as sorta like summon magic only much less effort intense to use. They're still really strong though.

On the collective unconscious we're highly connected to two different parts of it right now
There's the Metaverse in which people's distorted desires form places we call Palaces. And the Shadow World which drags forth the repressed emotions of any non Persona who comes in and makes a powerful shadow from them.

Think of shadows as an odd subtype of demons formed from negative human emotions that's not exact but it's close enough.

I do not intend to. Ex-Military. I left on my own accord to save my sister, and became an outcast. The Academy was what they reformed into, run primarily by the Guardians rather than Psicom, and they were more focused on the people and research. A society built by human hands; not Gods. That was all before the Chaos though. Before the death of Etro, and my crystal slumber.
