How did you discover Persona?
Which game (1-5 or maybe spinoffs?)

I of course got it from the lovely THAT DUDE. AKA Jay from the Kubs Scouts.

Jay stated that P4 was one of the best games that he played so I checked it out...

And now I'm obsessed. Persona is a pretty niche game too, I'm just curious?
I was browsing TV Tropes and read about P3. Thought it sounded fun so bought it and been a fan since.
My brother was playing it and I made fun of him cause of it then I began to play it and it was REALLY fun

Persona 4 Golden, Persona 3 Portable, and soon Persona 5
I got introduced to persona 3 a while ago but my mom wouldn't let me play it so I didn't really get interested in it until persona 5 came out and was a big deal. I'm still pretty new to the SMT series as a whole
I basically only stumbled onto the series because Persona 3 FES was on sale on the PSN for $5 so I bought it on a whim.
I watched a variety streamer and he ended up streaming P3 and P5, really got interested with P5 because of how stylish it is.
I got persona 4 golden on a deal with a vita and after that I became a fan and I played 3 1 and 5. BTW I didn't realise you could switch your persona while fighting until my second playthrough...
@Joker-Akira ... So you just stuck with Izanagi for the whole run...?!
No I was fusing every persona to the best I could every dungeon and was using that
I did the same Goroami
I thought that you could only have 1 persona so I stuck with Izanagi the whole time and never died in P4G
What difficulty level were you playing on?
I was trying always have a persona with a zio ability because my team was always Chie, Yukiko and Yosuke.
Normal difficulty
Honestly that gives me flashbacks to when I played Bioshock Infinite and thought you could only have one Vigor at a time and drinking a new tonic would overwrite the one you had so once I found one I was comfortable with I never picked up another one.
I also didn't know about having personas in your inventory would help increase social links until my second playthrough :(
So I was listening to one of these "Best video game music of all time" in youtube like...7 years ago, and suddenly I get to this one.

And uh...Little Kaz was like "What is that creepy thing? Who is that cool looking dude!? WHY CAN'T I STOP LISTENING TO THIS!?!?"
So, Little Kaz decided that he wanted to know what the fuck was going and...well, long story short, I got into Persona immediately, and bought P3FES and P4 for the PS2 a week after watching that video.
I actually forget it was that long ago.
i heard a lot of praise for persona 3 when it released, so i rented it from a local store!!

then i bought it and stuck with the series ever since!!
I was playing on very easy
I first saw bits and pieces of P3 and P4 during freshman and sophmore year of high school some... 6 or 7 years ago. While looking for PS1 games to emulate I saw Persona 1 and remembered I saw cool stuff from 3 and 4. So I thought I should try it out and see the series roots. Ended up falling in love with it ot despite the many flaws the PS1 version has. Found out there was a PSP port that made the game much more understandable and added cut content so I bought it for my Vita pretty quickly.

Ended up getting the other ports and 4 Golden not long after and preordered P5 before I even had a PS4. So far I've only really beaten both sides of P1 and P5, but I spoiled myself hard when I was first getting into the series.
I watched a trailer of P5 and bought it. And now I'm a new fan.
I heard about persona through a good friend of mine. It first started when we both went to a convention and played P4AU together. that's where he got into it. I didn't know the game was called persona at the time, I just thought it was a cool fighting game. Later the next year, he's showing me clips from P4D and the P4G anime. Now, earlier this year, he had a vita and told me to play P4G. Of course, I decline whenever my friends tell me to play something, same was the case with undertale. Eventually I gave in and played it. I loved it so much I played through it five times and became a conduit for which the rest of my friends started getting interested. Afterward I played P3P and P4D. Basically, this is how I became a fan of the Persona series.
@Shiza_Salad Happy Birthday btw! Have a good one!
@goroami thank you. I appreciate it.
Back in 2012 I suddenly started seeing Persona 4 pop up everywhere in discussions and fan art, so after a while, I decided to see what all the hype was about.
I didn't
@Goblin Obviously.
I think I heard about P4 because of it's massive popularity, but I started with 3.
OOC: My girlfriend got Persona 5 on release day, I watched her play and got hooked xD I now finished the game myself and am now a fan! I wanna play the others too of course~
@--Morgana-- That sounds so fun! I hope you enjoy the rest of the game and maybe get your hands on P4G, before any others, because that'll be the one I recommend the most.
A former friend of mine got me into it through P4, by giving me one of the two copies he had of it. Then it was the process of working backwards through it, and after that finding myself to the mainline SMT series.
OOC: @goroami She has all the games minus 1 so I will play them all eventually, lol! she recommended P3P next tho. said its more like P5 in tone.
I could've gotten p4g when it came out but I was too embarrassed to buy it so 2 years later I buy it and loved it
I actually found out about Persona looking for Lovecraftian references in games on TV Tropes. I saw Nyarlathotep referenced in P2 and that P3 was a little Cosmic Horror too, so I played P2 and P3. My heart was stolen. Later I got P3P, P4G, Arena, Arena Ultimax, and got P5 as soon as it came out.

I never looked back.
My friend showed me P4G...I've never been the same since...
@imtherealklib Once you get into Persona, there's no backing out!
Well, I think I first saw Persona flying around spouting some I am thou, thou art I bullshit.
@LuxTenebris...that was funny and I love it...
I bought myself Persona Q because I had etrian odysee before and fell in love with it.
Then i bought the other games, watched the Anime etc.
to get into it.xD
@Aki-Joker Well, that's the weirdest one I've hear today. PQ???
I got into the Persona franchise through streams of P2. A friend told me that Hitler was in it and I became intrigued.
@Mishimans Welcome back! Haven't seen you in a while, and there we go another odd reason why.
Hitler is love Hitler is life jk
@goroami

Glad to be back in this pit of hell.

Yep Hitler got me into persona ...
A friend played Persona 4 Golden (and spoiled a few parts I forgot) and talked about it. So when I got my PlayStation Vita, I instantly bought it.
ngl

Kept seeing Catherine thumbnails on youtube and thought to myself "Hoo boy this looks good* kept on watching vids until I stumbled across a video about Vincent's cameo in P3P.

Clicked on that, there was a video of the soundtrack "Danger Zone" on the recommended. Listened to it and was amazed.

Got P3P after that and I started going down the Persona/SMT rabbit hole.
That's oddly tame. No real outside force either.
I was aware of it for the longest time, I kinda-sorta knew about it, but I didn't really get as Into it as I am now until I made friends with someone who RPed one of the characters on tumblr a few years ago. We had some great crossover interactions that spurred me to actually play the games, and now here we are.
A few years back, a long time friend of mine kept talking to me about how great and cool P4G is, but since I didn't have any Sony systems at the time, I went for the Arena series, and I've been hooked since, now having P5 under my persona belt as well.
I Discovered Persona Through A Gameplay Trailer Of Persona 5. I Didn't Know Anything About The Series And By The Trailer Alone. I Knew This Was Gonna Be My Perfect Gateway Into The Series. So, When It Released. I Found A Let's Play Of The Game (Since I Didn't Have Enough Money To Buy The Game Or Console Myself And Neither Did My Parents.) This Particular Let's Play Was NicoB's Let's Play Of The Game (Which Is Still Continuing As Of Right Now.) Now, I'm Traveling Backwards With Watching His Persona 4 Let's Play Alongside Persona 5. Now, All That's Left Is To Finish The P4 LP And Continue On To P3 And The Others
My introduction to the series was Personal 3. I was was working for Technicolor (media company) as Quality Control and one of the projects they were working on was Persona 3 Fes.
I grabbed one of the instruction booklets and looked through it. After a look at the art and reading a synopsis of the story, I was hooked. I went and bought a copy as soon as it was released.
I heard a lot about it on YouTube, so one day I watched a let's play on Persona 4...I was not disappoint.
Friend of mine showed me some of the P4 anime, so I watched let's plays of P4G and P3F and well, here I am now.
Strangely enough, I got into this through Phoenix Wright. I watched Youtuber and after Phoenix Wright was finished I checked out some more of his content. I settled on Persona 4 Golden, since I thought it sounded cool, and here I am now.
My friend brought his PSVita to school and showed me P4G. I had barely had any games for it so i bought that and have been a fan since, I then went on to watch the anime and play P3, now I have P5. Now I'm waiting for P6
A youtuber, called Dayoscript, analized Persona 3 in one of his videos. Then I got interested and I searched a bit. That's it,nothing special.
I was searching for some JRPGS on the internet (especially on Google how interesting!) then I saw Persona 4 Golden. Before that, I finished Persona 3 Portable on PSP. And I loved Persona 3 so much, I even bought PS Vita for sake of P4G. For me, that was the only time I bought an entire system for P4G. And I loved it. Since then, I recommend Persona series (not first and second and I include the PSP remakes of P1 and P2 eternal sin and innocent sin)
I actually got out of Persona sometime after watching Persona 4, but one month after Persona 5 was released, I decided to watch that P4 let's play again, so I typed Persona into the search bar, and saw Persona 5 as one of the recommendations. One click later, and the rest is history...I never saw it coming.
Back in the day there were these establishments called video stores. You could rent movies and video games there. By chance I found persona 3 at one of these mysterious establishments. And I've been a fan since.
I wonder how many people (and Monas) here actually owned a Playstation or PS2 and played a physical copy of oNE of the earlier Persons games.
Believe it or not, I found out via DAN.

More specifically Twitch and someone streaming DAN, but still.
Who brought back this dead thread? (that rhymes)
Everyone
Persona Q was coming out and I wanted it, but my friends said I should play Persona 3/4 first. So that summer I had gone through Persona 3. I didn't finish 4 until I got Golden.
However, in between 3 and Golden, I played Persona 2 IS/EP.

Glad this thread was revived so I could comment on it.
Except me
I might have bumped it back up a bit...it was still on the first page...
@Starwaddle This thread was made 4 days ago, I'm amused that it was still on the first page.
My friend played persona 3 and persona 4 golden and recommended the series to me several times so I tried persona 4 golden and I really liked it.
It's amazing how things work out sometimes...
Personally I bought Persona 3 Portable and got hooked from there.

I'd started the SMT series as a whole with Nocturne though.
